It has gotten to the point where if you work for a game studio that gets bought out or sold, might as well get ahead of the game and start looking for a new job before they have the chance to fire you.
So basically they shut down their games actively being developed or games like NieR Reincarnation (I am legitimately upset they did not patch it to work offline, that was a great game that died yesterday) just so they could claim a loss. This is likely for tax reasons, if I had to guess.
That subreddit was simultaneously the funniest and creepiest subreddit I’ve ever visited. It’s hilarious how sure they are that they will all be billionaires but I always got the creeps when thinking about how I was reading the comments from a bunch of people just throwing their life savings down the toilet.
I bought a few thousand dollars because I could and I’m just sitting on it because I’m very curious what’s going to happen. I really believe the float has been locked up for a while and there’s some serious shenanigans going on. I either will strike it rich or at some point throw in the towel and write off the losses on my taxes. But I look back at when everyone wrote off Bitcoin and look at it now.
It’s Rocksteady, so it’ll be higher than 40s. Heck, it’s almost impossible to get a score lower than 40 on metacritic…
Mid 60s I’m guessing, perhaps as high as 69 if reviewers are feeling generous. The kind of score which would be absolutely fine if it were a cheap and cheerful B-game made by a scrappy team of underfunded devs, but which is an absolute embarrassment when applied to a multi million dollar tentpole. The kind of score that implies ‘meh’.
Could be right… though it went from me wanting to get this around launch day to… let’s hope it’s on GamePass. My backlog of games also helps me to wait on this one.
was with this threat looming that Bungie leadership - not Sony, according to Parsons - made the choice to lay off roughly 100 employees last month.
But the cost-cutting at Bungie isn’t limited to just personnel. Multiple current employees confirmed to IGN that the company has implemented numerous other cost-cutting measures recently, including a studio-wide hiring freeze, reduced travel budgets, elimination of holiday bonuses, keeping its annual Bungie Day virtual, delaying its weeklong company “Pentathalon” event to next December, and reducing numerous morale events such as cooking and knitting classes from monthly to quarterly. Bungie is also pausing or fully ending benefits like annual employee compensation adjustments to meet market rates, its new hire lunch program, employee donation matching, its peer recognition program, and gift cards for employees birthdays.
The WiiU was it’s own console that actually had interesting integrations with the tablet. The Portal can’t do anything like that since there is no second screen.
The CEO has to go because they failed to deliver? Right? I mean that’s why they get paid so much, to take responsibility. Now they will face the consequences of their failure! No?
In their defense, Destiny 2 did morph into a vast turd over its lifetime. Terrible story, terrible characters, repetitive gameplay, zero innovation. Gog is full of 15$ games with much more to offer than Destiny 2 ever had. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
