johnthedoe,

Such good news. I hope someone can answer this either theoretically or practically as I’m not as knowledgeable in this.

One of the things I love about the steam deck is the ability to just turn it off and back on a few days later and the game is exactly where I left off. If steamOS is on a PC or another handheld deck. Would it still be possible to still have this feature? I guess my question is whether this is a software or hardware feature.

johnthedoe,

It does goes to show hardware isn’t everything. In fact it’s a pretty small factor for most if the games are fun.

johnthedoe,

Still doesn’t feel like Nintendo to make a direct successor to a console. But it wouldn’t be Nintendo if they don’t add some cool idea to it instead of a straight forward spec bump.

johnthedoe,

Same day launch as Spider-Man 2. This year is just littered with amazing games. Excited to try this one as I never could get into 3d Mario games.

johnthedoe,

That’s what I thought too. If I was getting one now id be inclined to get the digital plus add on drive so the drive is more replaceable.

I was trying to wait for the slim but got an og a few months ago during a really good sale. I’m not too bummed about it as I thought it’d be slimmer.

johnthedoe,

It looks awesome and glad this market is getting more competition. But if it runs windows it’s an automatic out for me. Steam deck is just a great balance of power and efficiency while supporting Linux gaming.

johnthedoe,

That’s what I was wondering. Do they know something? I would’ve assumed ps5 have enough tech to get to 2026

johnthedoe,

I played 2 first without play 1. Now I’ve started I was immediately connected to Marston. But also adjusting to gameplay will take a while. 1 after 2 feels like a stripped back mobile version of 2. Still enjoying.

johnthedoe,

VI is wonderful. One really good note I heard from an analysis video was the presentation of VI feels and looks more like a play. A diorama playing out in front of you. So the dialogue and reactions is all based around this idea and setting. Because modern ff or most games in fact are told through a more cinematic lens and linear storytelling. This note might help you enjoy the story more I hope.

johnthedoe,

I ended up with a net positive with this game. There’s elements of the story, characters, gameplay and world I love. But certain aspects had execution and pacing problems. Someone mentioned if the story was a novel this would be an amazing read and I absolutely feel it

All the ingredients are there. It was limited by the execution of the game. I personally feel it would’ve been better as an old school pixel rpg.

That all being said. Loved the talent performance, emotional journey, ending etc.

johnthedoe,

Is this game actually worth playing now? I haven’t been following. Last I heard was at launch when everything as a buggy unfulfilled mess.

johnthedoe,

It’s such a perfect game already. I really should finish it. Dicking around for hours on end led me to put it down and take a break a month ago

johnthedoe,

When you say steam deck do you mean switch version emulation?

johnthedoe,

Most if not all game prior to like 2000 didn’t give you tutorials. I guess they were in the booklet that came with the game so not in the game.

Super Mario Bros on NES starting point is the best. Simple and allowed people to die repeatedly to learn what the game is about.

johnthedoe,

This looks more appealing to me than the rog. It’s a matter of cost and how well it runs chimera os. If it only runs windows it’s a dealbreaker for me.

johnthedoe,

I think if he meant one standard like DVD and companies like Sony or Microsoft would make the dvd player. Other companies can join in. We would have choice and competition. And the one game would work the same on any device.

At least that’s my wish.

Steam Deck VS rivals

I was interested in buying a Steam Deck… Until I discovered all the (apparently) better alternatives. Asus Rog Ally, OneXPlayer, Aya Neo etc… I like the idea of an handheld console and obviously I would like to have a device that can run almost everything, so the Windows based handhelds seem better than the Steam Deck. Is it...

johnthedoe,

Like others have said. It’s because steam deck runs steam os that makes it better than the rest. It’s a catered os for the device. It was after I jumped in I realised how robust it is. Every game in integrated works on Linux no issue I even took windows off my desktop pc. Best reason is also community. Steam deck has plenty of online support whereas the other ones are a bit more saturated

johnthedoe,

Cool. Now it just needs steam os on it

johnthedoe,

I do like the way Nintendo reinvent the console on each gen. I do hope it’s fully backwards compatible at the very least
