Pretty much every korean MMORPG released from 2006-2014, as they were desperately trying to be “World of Warcraft, but better”. Perfect World, Aion, ArcheAge, 4story, Granado Espada, etc etc etc, even when you have the better experience of playing on a private server with significantly less P2W (as in, nearly everyone gets most of the shop for free)

To me, personally, ArcheAge would be the best fit for “dead medium quality”. It boasts naval combat, which is meh; player run trade caravans, which probably only worked as intended in the first 2 months after launch; limits on gathering and crafting, which just forces free players to buy premium; graphics are the generic korean mmo variety, pretty but almost impossible to distinguish between games; music, enemies, dungeons and most gear exist

Breezy,

Im sorry but perfect world got down flying before any other game and it was hella fun.

Rai,

Ragnarok Online was the last incredible MMO.

Eh, debatable. I’ve played it for roughly 2 years (2004-6) on private servers and even then I knew it wasn’t “the best” or “incredible” by any means, but it was light years ahead of Tibia (which was my first taste of MMORPGs, back when the starter island was a mess with too many players and not enough rats in the sewers for people to kill and level up) in every regard. Even with higher rates and an incredible teenage patience for braindead repetition, the grind got old really damn fast, not to mention that the game penalized fucking around (no stat resets, only on the 99 rebirth) and fucking up (1% xp penalty on death hit harder and harder the higher your level).

Played for a long time on EuphRO server (3x/3x/2x), my highest level character was 75 or something close to that. I think I gave up playing altogether around the time I got a super novice to level 50 on a different, higher rate server

Rai,

I am biased because RO changed my life. I played on a 2x/2x server with like 3k people and it was incredible. I met so many awesome people to braindead farm with and WoE was so fun, I didn’t have a lot of close friends in real life but I had some incredible people in RO. Also as a young bi furry bitch Moonie gave me very confusing feelings. I might not be here today if not for RO, so I have some opinions on RO hahaha

Quick edit: I played from when it came out here until when it became F2P and I disagreed with that choice. I hate MTX shit.

Godus.

I know lots of people hate it but taken in isolation it's okay. I found its aesthetics charming and its pace generally pretty chill. It wasn't good but it wasn't terrible. Low medium perhaps but I have comfortable memories of listening to an audiobook whilst playing it.

Kings quest 8. Universally panned as a “bad Kings quest game” and I agree, It’s a terrible entry to the kings quest series. But when you look at this quirky adventure game from a modern perspective you can see it was really ahead of it’s time. It has an unmatched vibe and atmosphere.

Might and Magic 6-8. Thought it’s the best game ever during my childhood. Turns out it was pretty bad. Still like it (nostalgy)

vonxylofon,

7 and 8 maybe, but I lived under the impression that 6 was critically acclaimed and also very popular.

Jaws on the NES. I absolutely loved that game, but I found out many years later that it was hated.

Literally every MMORPG targeted at an oldschool/hardcore/PvP oriented audience. Without fail the related comments and reviews will be littered by people angrily ranting on how these games are outdated and should change to be more casual

mic_check_one_two,

And inversely, games like RuneScape that changed to be more casual, which pissed off all of the tryhard players.

Ultima IX: Ascension (1999)

I genuinely enjoyed the game. Fans of the series claim that it destroyed the franchise. Perhaps they’re right, but the franchise was pretty fucked up to begin with.

massive_bereavement,

Then I pick Ultima 8. It felt like Crudader No Remorse but with fantasy trappings (because it didn't play like Ultima at all).

That said, it is janky, full of bugs and incomplete (clearly there was a second part that never came), but I had fun and at the time it felt edgy and kind of a dangerous and misterious travel.

AnnaFrankfurter, do trains w Railway electrification of India by State in 2024

Sorry to be a buzzkill but ~70% of India’s electricity is coming from coal powerplants. They are working on using nuclear and renewable but still currently it is mostly coal.

zemon,

Might still be better for the environment overall than running trains on oil. I don’t know if any study exists on the topic.

AnnaFrankfurter,

I’m not sure about efficiency of oil engines vs electric engines but at least infrastructure is already available and once India switches to nuclear/renewable it’ll help massively…

glowing_hans,

Coal fired plants are more energy and heat efficient than internal combustion engines on trains. Waste heat can be used for industrial areas. Also the pollution is localized and heavy duty filters can be installed, while the train can not carry heavy filters without worse transport efficiency.

Wow that’s amazing. Only like 60% of German rail is electrified, for comparison.

Dark cloud is one of my favorites, I go back and replay it at least once a year. The second one was good too but it doesn’t quite have the same vibe as the first

ieGod,

Never played the first but the second had some mind numbing gameplay loops that didn’t do it for me.

damdy,

Both are great, but the drastically changed a lot in the 2nd. In UK they even called the sequel ‘Dark Chronicle’ rather than ‘Dark Cloud 2’.

At least the 2nd one removed the system where you could permanently lose your best weapons if you forgot to repair in time, they just become unusable.

Everblue 2 for the PS2 is one of my all-time favorite games. I play it about once a year. The original was an EU only release thst I didn’t get to play until a few years ago. It also had a sort of spiritual successor with Endless Ocean 1 & 2 for the Wii, made by the same developer. However, the first one didn’t have any of the treasure finding mechanics and there was no real threat to the player at any time. Neither series really let you walk on land, so to speak. The Everblue games do have above water parts, you return to the island between dives to talk to people, sell treasure, sleep and such, but they’re prerendered images that are more like a point and click adventure. There were a couple pc games I played around the same time that were made by independent developers that never really took off.

I vaguely remember playing Untold Legends back in the day. It was good.
