Agree with Gordon Freeman 100%. I might also suggest the Guide from Terraria and the CS:GO player models. Maybe also the player character from Noita, the goat from Goat Simulator, Quote from Cave Story.
These ones may be more niche, but for me personally I would also add Guy Spelunky, Princess Remedy, and Worm (Worms Armageddon).
The legacy console editions of Minecraft have always done a good job in my opinion as a tutorial. It’s hard to skip it (or at least was for me) and it really walks you through the basics. Then you have the choice of learning more or just… going out and playing minecraft

Nice to see MS decided to make their (remored) pricing quite aggressive. Especially since it is sold with the dock included.
The base Xbox Ally should be as powerfull as the Deck. It is basically the same chip with 5 more watts of TDP, which can easily be done on the OG deck with a little bios mod.
The biggest one will be a serious blow to the Deck as well as other handhelds. The specs are clearly superior on all aspects, while still being very competitive. Depending on the autonomy and how much bloat was removed, I may be really tempted, despite being a pro-Linux… And probably install SteamOS (or Bazzite) as soon as it works on it.
I hope this will prompt Valve to update the Deck to newer hardware, or at least allow to officially tune up the APU power envelope to 20-25W (vs 15W currently), especially when docked, so we can enjoy higher definition gaming without sacrificing too much graphical settings to the Frametime gods (E33 looks kinda bad on the Deck, especially when docked 😂).
I too was wondering about MGS4 in the midst of all of these Konami announcements, since Volume 1 was so long ago now. MGS4 is just about the only reason I still have a PS3.
My wife and I rolled credits on Blue Prince. It’s a great puzzle/adventure game, but I don’t think either of us have the patience to see everything it has to offer. It would have been nice if they doled out more ways to control the RNG earlier and more frequently, but they did not.
I’ve also been continuing on with Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the first one. I just had a night of debauchery with a priest in order to progress a main quest line, and then had to give a sermon hung over, which went surprisingly well.
The Steam Deck brings about a conversation about what a console is. To me, it’s something that plugs into the TV and doesn’t require KBM, and in that regard it very much is.
The key ingredient that separates PC from console is you can deploy code custom optimized for the fixed platform hardware. This is why you have to go up a tier in GPU to have an experience on par with what a console would have because it’s running generisized code.
I was about 2 decades later, but I bonded over games like Pokemon and later made many friendships in minecraft. Wish I could revisit that time. I think it’s less about any particular era in gaming - it’s about being young. Kids are still forging friendships over video games today - just different ones (although, at least in the case of my nephew, Minecraft is still one of them :D).
I played an earlier version of Baldur’s Gate 3 and encountered a bug where I couldn’t for the life of me figure out a way to progress without killing Karlach. I stopped playing that save-file, because I didn’t want to kill her. Now I’m going to revisit it after the big update from awhile back.
The first level of MegaMan x and good springs in fallout: New Vegas are really good examples of how to convey info to the player about how the game works and what you can do without pulling you out of the game itself into a separate tutorial
cyberpunk was nice. It had both an optional that really specifically laid things out and then in addition the first gig more casually does it. I seem to recall harry potter being so integrated that I can't remember it. I find a lot of games just sorta give popups that you can say stop to and then it basically just starts simple so you can learn the stuff without it seeming much like a tutorial. skyrim is sorta annoying in that its unskippable and you can't do a save before locking in a race that is after it like you could with oblivioun. So they went a bit backwards. Elden rings was completely skippable but it was also just pants. The tutorial is crazy easy compared to most games and does not prepare you at all for the brutal real game. Baldurs gate was unskippable but its pretty fast and did not really feel aweful to redo as its much like any quest in the game.
