I love my Anbernic. Such a cheap and convenient way to emulate old games.

davad, do games w (my first time here sorry) prison review and suggestions

I haven’t played in a few years so take this with a grain of salt.

My approach is to build things out incrementally. If your cashflow stays positive the entire time, you won’t have money problems.

For design, try to find modular chunks you can repeat. A cellblock with bathroom and showers. A canteen. Make blueprints from them and twist them.

Do you have a foundation and walls around the entire space? I usually kept most stuff outside with a fence around the perimeter.

Oisann,

i honestly just go with the flow like the plan comes in my head its not the best as you can tell but i try to keep it quite better looking this prison as you see i am trying to make it like a very hard prison to escape from but at the same time somewhat of a prison for reform its not the best looking as i said but i try my best

FeelzGoodMan420, do games w Useless rant about Witcher 3 romance

The whole triss vs yen thing was lazy fanservice added by CDPR. If you read the books, it’s clear Geralt is destined to be with Yen. The books make this abundantly clear. It also makes it crystal clear that Geralt thinks of Triss like a little sister, not romantically. There was absolutely no reason to have that in the book. It’s straight up stupid fanservice and made the game into kind of a meme in my opinion.

Lojcs,

I really don’t care about the book. If anything his relationship with Yen feels like pondering to the book audience without much of a setup or explanation in-game

FeelzGoodMan420,

I mean… The game has numerous book references. It expects you to have read then. Half the characters and references are from the books. So not sure why it’s the yen part that specifically bugs you :-)

Lojcs,

As far as I understand the games aren’t book cannon right? Then let the books not be game cannon. It is unreasonable for the books to be required reading between witcher 2 and 3 or even to expect the audience to know to read them.

A never before seen character from the books showing up in the game doesn’t bother me because they’re new and they’re explored as if they’re new characters. Yen bugs me because she’s a new character to me but as soon as they meet in Skelliga, her and Geralt get back together as if nothing has changed since the books. On the other hand Triss is an established character who has a history with Geralt that I know of, but now both are giving each other the cold shoulder without explanation.

In terms of Triss and Yen the books don’t give context to the status quo. They become the status quo.

FeelzGoodMan420,

The books are canon for the games, yes. The games are not canon. Idk what else to say. I played W2 and 3 originally without having read the books. It didn’t seem weird in W3 because W2 was spent looking for her the entire game. And it gave clues about their history. After having read the books W3 makes even more sense since I understood more about the characters. There is nothing unreasonable about how they did that game. The game is totally fine without having read the books. But I am telling you that it makes more sense if you did.

Lojcs,

W2 was spent looking for her the entire game

Witcher 2 was spent looking for Triss not Yennefer.

The books are canon for the games, yes

And I said maybe they shouldn’t be because warping the game story to fit the books is what I’m complaining about in the first place.

If you were fine with how w3 handled Yen before reading the books good for you. But it was not at all clear for me and that’s all I said. Sorry for being brash but it is obnoxious to then get comments preaching about how Yennefer is objectively right for Geralt and Triss is just fan service and the game itself favoring Yen would make sense if only I were to read the books

FeelzGoodMan420,

Huh? Witcher 2 was primarily focused on Geralt looking for Yennifer. Are you mixing up names?

Lojcs,

Witcher 2. The game. Assasins of kings. Letho captures Triss at the end of act 1 to get away and Geralt can recue her on act 3. Yennefer is only ever mentioned in name. Please look things up before condescending

FeelzGoodMan420, (edited )

Bruh yennefer is mentioned multiple times. You’re also looking for her. What I’m saying is not wrong. I’m gonna stop responding to you because you seem to clearly have no desire to engage in good faith conversation. I was not being condescending . You’re clearly looking to pick a fight. Goodbye.

chicken, do games w I want a law for PC games to be offered in physical versions again

If we’re wishing for things that probably won’t happen, how about a government agency for game preservation? Source code gets submitted before release, approval for sale is conditional on them being able to successfully build and deploy it. Then 20 years later it gets automatically published to the public domain. That way even online only games will end up being preserved.

Is there another meaning to “PSA” that isn’t “public service announcement”? It confuses me being in the title as this entire post is written as a suggestion / CTA, not a PSA.

My favorite mod for Fallout 3 was the one that got rid of the awful “green” filter they slapped on it. You’d be amazed how much better the game looks. If this is how Oblivion Remastered looks I’ll wait for a similar mod to come out.

I have both. So far the only advantage the Switch Lite has is that is lighter and pocketable. The Steam Deck is not just about gaming which it does so well, it has also become my main and only PC outside of work. I have it hocked up to my TV more often than use it in handheld mode.

Try Stellaris. It’s similar gameplay, but it’s realtime and the space battles you can get yourself into can be truly epic.

Denjin,

As someone who just spent the last 30 years in a huge galaxy spanning war to try and seize Terminal Egress from a 7 strong federation and then had a 10x Unbidden appear in Fen Habbanis that produced 85% of my alloys crippling my ability to fight them off for 20 years. I second this recommendation.

jacksilver,

Thanks for this, I was confused cause I thought it was still being released.

leaky_shower_thought,

ohhh, good to know they didn’t stop development!

i had thought the project got shelved from that change in dev teams.

Nibodhika,

It is still being released but they had the designer/writer from the 1st one leading the writing team, but fired him due to “creative differences” so don’t expect anything similar.

The original team remade it as a VR game with a new name in roughly 2017. I played a demo of it at PAX and felt like it was 1996 all over again.

Mostly every Rare game.

  • Diddy Kong Pilot (the voxel version)
  • Dinosaur Planet
  • Donkey Kong Racing
  • Twelve Tales: Conker 64

I know 3/4 of these sort of got released, but the mode-7 style Banjo-Pilot is fundamentally not interesting to me, Star Fox Adventures is fine but was a lot more ambitious when it was on weaker hardware, and while Twelve Tales looked generic, Conker's Bad Fur Day is the least funny thing to ever attempt humor.

I didn't forget Donkey Kong: Coconut Crackers, I just don't mind missing out on that.

Guitar,

I really wish we had gotten a full release of Dinosaur Planet. Starfox Adventures is still pretty good, but it definitely lost a lot of unique ideas with the change. Not to mention, it probably affected Nintendo’s perception of Starfox as a whole. Mucked up a cool game and damaged a franchise with that one. And I say this as a fan of Adventures.

mundane, do gaming w Why doesn't Steam support Android?

It’s a pain to get other app stores to get uptake on Android since Google refuses to let other app stores be distributed via Google Play. So if Steam starts to distribute games for Android, the Steam app would be thrown out from Google Play.

It’s the same reason why the F-droids user base is so small and will never reach the main public. As soon as your app store needs to be installed via a third party web site, you have lost.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

Sure, but Steam can leverage their already-massive 132M userbase, just like Epic has (only much bigger). Put an announcement on the Steam store and client pages. Show a pop-up when someone opens the website from an Android device, etc. I mean certainly they wouldn’t achieve the same level of success as Google who has their store installed on literally every Android device, but even a tiny fraction of their revenue would be an enormous boon to Steam.

So if Steam starts to distribute games for Android, the Steam app would be thrown out from Google Play.

That’s not how that works. They only throw it out if you use the app in the app store to distribute other apps. They don’t ban the entire company from distributing any software.

jarfil,

They don’t ban the entire company from distributing any software.

They can do whatever, it’s their store.

Keep in mind that Epic Games v. Google has made Google add features to allow alternative app stores on Android… which automatically removes the monopoly argument and lets Google ban anyone they want from the Google Play store.

Ulrich,
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

They can do whatever, it’s their store.

No. They can’t.

which…lets Google ban anyone they want from the Google Play store

No it didn’t.

jarfil,

Read the case, the whole thing started because Google banned Epic from the Play store, and the only reason for it to become a case, was the monopolistic position. That’s gone now, they’re free to refuse service to whoever they want, whenever they want, for no reason at all… and if you don’t agree, go sue them, they’ll show you the precedent followed by the door.

Ulrich, (edited )
@Ulrich@feddit.org avatar

I’m very familiar with the case.

and the only reason for it to become a case, was the monopolistic position.

The reason it became a case is because Epic violated the ToS (intentionally).

That’s gone now, they’re free to refuse service to whoever they want, whenever they want, for no reason at all…

…what is gone, exactly? You think this settlement suddenly made them no longer a monopoly? That’s not how that works. Further, companies that are not monopolies ALSO have to comply with their own ToS, so I’m honestly very confused about what you’re trying to say here.

jarfil,

what is gone, exactly?

By adding support for alternate stores, the monopoly argument is gone: everyone can build their own store now. Meaning, everyone with a store can kick out anyone else, and tell them to just build their own.

comply with their own ToS

…which they can change at any moment, but don’t really need to; most ToS include clauses about refusing service without having to explain why. If you ever agree to a ToS, better make sure they’re even supposed to notify you if they ever decide to cut you off.
