Minecraft feels a lot more polished, it has more content, and more players meaning higher chance of your friends being on there, and minetest is… free :3 so if you have minecraft or considering getting it you’re not losing anything by also trying the latter. I think the project is neat, but it was not something I could stick with for a long time
I think suspicious is the wrong word. Suspicious seems to suggest doubt or a lack of certainty, but the criticism is pretty predictable. Industry forces could afford to ignore it when it looked impossible to get the signatures, but now that the signatures are in the bag they’re having to take a different tactic.
SOME of the criticism is certainly genuine and exactly what it appears to be at face value, but it was inevitable that those doubts would be artificially boosted now.
Don’t think any game has the same support doom has. Doom has become a benchmark of sorts so gets ported to the strangest of places. Not normally places you would bother to port any game. It is done for the challenge of the port rather than any practical reason.
There are tonnes of games that could run in the same places as doom, many could run in far more places. But doom is complex enough to be an interesting challenge while being simple enough to run on very limited hardware. And has been open sourced while being a classic icon which makes it attractive to be a benchmark for getting to run in the weirdest of places.
The architecture of Doom was specifically designed for portability. If you’d like to learn more, check out this video. For those that don’t know, tl;dr, the game’s structure is compartmentalized with specific connections (interfaces). The game logic runs separate of engine logic. If you write the specific engine hookups, the game logic should then run. Also math & clever level design implementation.
I think it’s not that easy. From what I understand, the payment providers enforce that for the whole store, otherwise they don’t want to be involved. Quite shitty, but they have enough weight to pull shit like that off.
You can literally just “buy” stuff, and put whatever your currency is, in your wallet. so the transaction was already made, to no specific product. How are they able to track that, is utter nonsense. This is just the companies forcing them to do their bidding. I mean if those games have questionable content (and by that I mean pedophilia or zoophilia), I do agree with that, and I feel that is a responsibility from Valve itself, not other companies.
I am happy that it’s a Peripeteia developer saying this. The game is a mess (because it’s Early access) & needs a looooot if optimization, but boy it’s something else.
Due to Long Covid I can only lay in bed and most games are too intense for me. So I actually do watch let’s plays.
I really like Welonz. She has a really nice mix of indies and big titles, regularly tries out a great variety of games. She is very thorough and while she might not find all the secrets she will go out of her way to show alternate endings and stuff. And she has an interesting voice, so rumor has it that she is actually a ten year old boy.
While I have no problems with let’s plays, I still feel like they’re kinda subjective. No commentary playthroughs are on the opposite end of the spectrum but I feel really really bored watching them and I can’t say the same for let’s plays.
