EarthlingHazard, do games w Starfield Steam Deck performance report: a frontier too far

I don’t think anyone is surprised to hear that it does not run well on the deck. Personally I’ll be streaming the game with game pass if I want to play on steam deck

FrankTheHealer,

What do you use to stream game pass games on Steam Deck?

I have a ton of older games in my Xbox library that I’d love to play on Steam Deck

EarthlingHazard,

Microsoft has a guide for it actually and it works pretty well:

…microsoft.com/…/xbox-cloud-gaming-in-microsoft-e…

singularity,

I’m using Greenlight, which I find to be more convenient than the official way: github.com/unknownskl/greenlight

Ismay, (edited ) do games w Starfield Steam Deck performance report: a frontier too far

Too bad the performances are not the biggest problem with that game

Sooooo boring, shitty interface, emotionless characters, the starting plot is dumb as f. I’m really happy to have taken the pass to test it, would have been a waste of money

Well more time for bg3 and sea of stars

nanoUFO,
@nanoUFO@sh.itjust.works avatar

That sounds like fallout 4 in a nutshell, a game that I couldn’t stand more than an hour of.

aesopjah,

The starting sequence is waaay too long.

Hey, I’ve got an idea for how to start our go-anywhere do-anything space exploration game! 8 hours of hand holding tutorial quests ought to be plenty of buildup, right? None of this exciting dragon attack starting sequence BS, let’s really bore the hell out of our players.

toxicbubble, do games w Google, Netflix, Apple and Amazon are the "barbarians at the gate" of the games industry, says ex-Sony boss

i imagine Netflix games would end in a cliffhanger then cancelled before a sequel, google games will track your usage for personalized ads, apple games will eventually require accessories & dongles, amazon will slowly buy smaller studios & become the next EA

dangblingus, do games w Google, Netflix, Apple and Amazon are the "barbarians at the gate" of the games industry, says ex-Sony boss

Anyone else just getting to a point where, given the writing on the wall, they feel gaming sort of already peaked? Amazon gaming? Netflix gaming? Apple? Yeah. No thanks. None of those companies are game companies. All of their offerings are going to be excessively monetized. All of it is going to be about data gathering instead of engaging fun games. It’s going to be AI driven. Yuck. Good thing I still have Final Fantasy X and Metal Gear Solid 3 to play.

People have been saying that gaming is dying and that its reached its peak for like… decades now. With the advent of game creation being more accessible and more available than ever (still), gaming isn’t going to die.

gveltaine,

The same thing was said about Microsoft when they released the Xbox as well when it was first announced

bfg9k, do games w Starfield Steam Deck performance report: a frontier too far

I barely get 30-45fps at 1080p with an rtx 2070, not surprised the Deck is struggling.

BruceTwarzen,

That is just the Bethesda experience

So…the original game…

stratoscaster,

Iirc the original game was wave-defence. I remember hearing about it in 2012 ages ago, but they axed it soon after they released the battle royale

TrousersMcPants,

Nah they didn’t axe it, they just really limited development. You can still buy and play the game and it’s alright. Frankly if it wasn’t for the battle Royale mode no one would be talking about Fortnite today, I played the testing from before BR mode and it wasn’t that cool.

Gatekeeper reports, Outsiders are scary and different

dangblingus,

Who do you want shaping your console gaming experience? Sony or Amazon?

jopepa,

“Or”? I’d rather have the consoles makers and game developers working independently so that we don’t have to wait twenty years for Crash Bandicoot to become available on Nintendo. Fuck Amazon but Sony isn’t looking out for the gamer when they make Spider-Man a PS exclusive.

Dagnet, do games w Sea of Stars devs working on DLC and next game as throwback RPG sells a year’s worth of copies in one week

And that’s while being on game pass, so they technically ‘sold’ even more. Been playing it myself, very charming game

It’s also on the PS+ game library. I just found out about the game today and was happily surprised to find it already available to me.

Like anyone is worried about more Google gaming. It’s like an idiot tax on people who are too dumb to have learned not to trust them.

Dark_Arc,
@Dark_Arc@social.packetloss.gg avatar

I did some of my gaming for like 2 years for basically free thanks to Google’s refund, and got free gaming hardware (controllers)… call me an idiot or call me a genius, but, that was a heck of a deal.

drmoose,

Honestly I really like Play Pass on android. Mostly because it’s only 3usd here thanks to regional pricing and there’s a lot of great value! My issue is that Google generally sucks at keeping things going so I’d never invest anything beyond that with them.

My Steam account from 2006 is still going, all of the games work, it’s mostly the same platform but better. I don’t think Google can match that.

This. Valve is doing a lot of good. People can claim they are doing a lot of bad as well but I can’t mention many companies with purity from top to bottom.

Another article mentioned that this guy is now working for Tencent (announced in 2022). Before becoming yet another Galactus in the industry, Tencent is originally an online service provider and (mostly) an ad company.

What about barbarians trying to ruin the glorious video game empire now?

Funny how this small detail doesn’t show up in that article, where he’s only “ex-Sony boss”.

TheQuietCroc, (edited )

Tencent has been around for a decade, that’s past being “at the gate”

Google, Apple, Amazon, Netflix as we all know have only been around a few days.

TheQuietCroc, (edited )

In gaming? Netflix is definitely at the gate with the current options they have. Apple as well with their Arcade service. Google and Amazon keep coming back but never stay long, I’m not even sure they should be in the conversation.

Tencent has been in gaming for a long time now, they’ve owned Riot since 2011. They’ve had their hand in other gaming companies many times since then. They’re well past the gate, it’s not even in their rear view anymore.

djsaskdja, do games w Overwatch 2 is charging you for the PvE it didn't cancel

I don’t get it.

flowrette,

OW2 was announced as free-to-play and would shut down the original Overwatch servers with it. However, Blizz had said that OW2 would come with a PvE mode (which was highly requested with Overwatch). When OW2 released, the game released with no PvE mode but the promise that they’d add it in later. In May, Blizz announced that the PvE mode had been cancelled altogether. A week or so later, Blizz reversed the decision to cancel the PvE mode. Now the PvE mode is coming and it’ll cost $15.

So, just more Blizzard being incredibly shitty. As always.

DoucheBagMcSwag, do gaming w Yep, Payday 3 seems a lot like Payday... but that's no bad thing
