How is the bootleg ps5 controller market? I don’t have a ps5 myself but it seems like the obvious answer is to just buy the highest quality off-brand at the better price if you don’t want to pay more.
That haptic feedback on the PS5 controller is a rare feature that actually adds something to a controller. If there are third-party options with the haptics, I’d love to know about them, because they kind of spoil you once you get used to them.
I don’t have a PS5 but bought a controller. The first time I was playing a game that supported that feature, I thought my shoulder buttons had broken somehow. I suddenly had to press very hard after pressing the button halfway, and it was clicking. It clicked a bit later that it was a feature when it wasn’t happening all the time, just when doing a certain thing in the game.
Funny because I noticed the haptic feedback for the first time recently after owning my PS5 for over a year and was instantly looking for ways to disable it. I don’t trust an unnecessary vibrating motor not to fuck up the parts of the controller I actually care about keeping functional and the Dualsense battery life is abysmal enough as it is
Yeah the PS5 controller is about the only innovative part of this console generation. The adaptive triggers and haptics are just great. I use one on the PC and for the games that support the extra features they really do add an extra dimension.
I just got a 8BitDo pro 2 because every PlayStation controller for the last 4yrs has broken in less than 6 months and it’s great. Feels good, connects over Bluetooth, and has Hall effect joysticks that aren’t prone to drift, which was the Sony controller main issue. All for $50. I think I’m done with Sony controllers.
How is its compatibility with the PS4/5? Might snag one but am worried that it would be subpar compared to an original controller - for example because of a missing touch pad
If you guys ever wonder why a seemingly modern computer goes for half of what a normal PC costs, this is why. They'll milk you dry with subscriptions like this
Same boat here 😔. I can still remember when I first heard it was officially cancelled. I’ve never been more devastated by any media being cancelled than this
Honestly, it still amazes me that this never got successfully ripped and emulated. I’ve heard that it’s because there isn’t a reliable PS4 emulator, but frankly that surprises me as well. I’d think that the sheer popularity of this game alone would encourage one to be made pretty heavily, especially since this game looks to be on track to becoming lost media otherwise.
Whelp, I was keeping the sub purely because the games they give you monthly and so my ex could still play online, but nvm. Gonna cancel because it’s not worth the cost. The games they give out monthly are usually mid and the online services haven’t improved since the PS3 days when it was free.
Still don’t have a PS5, and definitely not getting one now. Fuck off, Sony.
Much as I’ve come to hate Xbox, this could be the beginning of signs of monopoly - they don’t have so much competition anymore, so they can do what they want. Certainly doesn’t help that unofficial controllers have never been good.
They are not good at least partialy beacuse of sony which apparently actively sabotaged them. At least dualshock 4 . It may be better with dualsense alghtough i doubt it .
Also another cavieat is that they unfortunetly are quite affordable for what they offer. Even on pc the recommendation is usualy to buy console controler ( alghtough not nessearily current gen one ). They truly pack quite a bit of technology in them.
I mean, what other type of controller would you buy on PC if you’re looking to buy a game controller? Unless you’re not including 3rd party controllers as “console controllers”. Afaik, the xbox pro controller is still considered the best controller to use on PC, and while it is made by Microsoft, it’s not a controller that comes with the console.
The PC controller market just isn’t large enough to support pc-only controllers. Of course the recommendation is to always buy a console controller, pc controllers don’t exist! 😂
Yes, I know some games have their own controller type like flight sticks, game pads, and OSU, but nobody is seriously using those for rocket league and elden ring.
By console controlers i meant first party console controlers. So dualshock, dualsense, official xbox controlers or switch pro controler ( Most commonly xbox , alghtough recently i saw uptick in recomending PlayStation controlers ). The 3rd party controlers are either poor quality or just as expensive and quite often both ( which is probably why console official controlers are recommended as sort of stamp of quality )
The new-gen console is actually trending 7 per cent ahead of the PS4 in the United States launch aligned.
And how much do you think the drop in Xbox is? It’s way more than 7 percent. The problem for Sony isn’t that its console is dying; it’s that they’re approaching market saturation. They’ve got their market cornered in a way that they never have, and they’ve only got a 7 percent lead off of the last generation. Peak dollars spent on consoles was back in 2009, when all three consoles were in very healthy competition. Many PS4 users are happy to stay on PS4, because the games they play are over 10 years old, like Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft, so there’s no need to upgrade.
Meanwhile, a console that launched with some idea of every game running at 60 FPS is now compromising on that (it was inevitable, but people believed otherwise). Games that used to be console exclusive are now coming out on PC, where you don’t need to pay a subscription fee to play online and your library always comes with the assumption that every game you have will be forward compatible. Even if you buy the new PlayStation, there’s no promise that your old games will run at better resolutions and frame rates. The controller you bought 10 years ago still works on PC, but Sony says you need to buy the new one, even if the game you’re playing uses none of its new features. The VR system you bought before doesn’t play the new VR games. For all sorts of economic realities, not the least of which are certification processes and licensing fees, there’s a good chance that game you really want to play is on PC long before it’s on console, in early access or otherwise. There are no competing storefronts for digital releases, so you can only pay what Sony says you have to pay. Consoles also aren’t even significantly cheaper than an equivalent PC anymore, and they run basically the same hardware under the hood, so the reasons for a console as we know them today to exist are fewer and fewer as time goes on.
Well, that's another reason to consider completely switching over to gaming on PC. The free games are nice, but the quality always varies month to month and I really have to wonder if it's worth it to stay subscribed.
This would be a game that can survive really well if it was ported to PC and supports user server.(to host their collection of dream projects.) Instead, it probably not gonna last for very long following similar treatment to PS3’s little big planet when player count taper out.
It’s really good prototyping tool as well for people wants to dip in to game dev. It’s more complex compare to say Mario Maker, but less overwhelming compare to using unity/unreal engine. And you already have all sorts of project asset template you can copy from.
I’d imaging some future gamedev actually started by making dream projects.
I think Dreams would also have done much better with a major underlying game instead of advertising itself as effectively a game engine you can’t profit from. LBP, Mario Maker, Halo, Far Cry, and others have an appeal to them because they’re complete titles that people enjoy, but have level editors (or are the level editor in the case of Mario) that allow players to easily express their creativity given the rules and assets of these games. I haven’t ever launched Dreams, but I’m over the moon waiting for Restitched. Brings me back to the days of waiting for my LBP pre-order to release.
This is a scheme to control the used console market so they can set their own prices. Hopefully people actually selling their own consoles and undercut them
i mean they’ve been doing refurbished consoles for multiple generations now, no? The only new thing is that they’re selling them directly from Sony’s site, rather than going through GameStop like they used to back in the day.
How would this control people selling their used hardware? I don’t see anything about Sony trying to disable resold consoles.
you’ll get “a product that works like new with genuine PlayStation replacement parts (as needed) that has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and tested”. You will receive all the cables and paperwork you need for a PS5, and it comes with a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty
I have gone on top 100 lists and have played every top PS4 game or PS4 game above a 7 rating. But they’re done making new games for ps4. I don’t know why I got downvoted for that 🤷♂️
Yea you shouldn’t have been downvoted. I’m just waiting for the jailbreak to come out to start tinkering with it. I bought it to bust it open and run Linux and such. Not really to game.
Consoles will be around until the tech is sufficiently advanced as to negate their usefulness. There will come a day when a phone does everything a modern high end PC can. Bluetooth to a TV and play whatever you want.
Graphic fidelity is almost to a point where there isn’t much more needed in the way of processing power. Another decade. Maybe 2. Consoles will still exist for decades yet. But they’re going to become increasingly unnecessary.
Dedicated hardware still has benefits, having your phone notifications separate from gaming, if your phone breaks having your console break would suck, and imo a touchscreen will never surpass physical buttons on controllers so you’d still want those.
I personally hope the future looks more like a steam deck than a gaming phone.
In terms of touch screen control. The phone will just be the processing unit. It will wirelessly Stream the video to your tv while accepting controllers and other ik devices via bluetooth. Maybe with a switch like cradle. And I can’t play a lot of games with a controller… but my kids play fine with one… also on the touch screen. It’s what you are used to I guess.
I think it’s a bit shortsighted to assume gaming will have no use for significantly more powerful hardware in the future. even if not for graphics or VR, it could be greater use of AI, or something else we could never foresee.
I disagree. Your phone can happily do that today as long as you’re willing to play old games. This will always be the case, even when phones are able to play things today are now considered AAA, Desktop computers will be leaps ahead in what they can do.
