lustyargonian, do games w Lies of P DLC Scheduled for Early 2025, Developer's Next Game a Sci-Fi Horror

I absolutely loved Lies of P. I am too afraid of souls games but this was quite tightly scoped and very approachable for me (consumables were a neat solution to most of my problems). The music was spot on too!

And more importantly, it looked great and ran so well on all platforms. I can totally see them going the survival horror route, just that I feel we’ve had enough Resident Evil likes lately (even Alan Wake 2 feels like that).

The character in the poster looks like a young Jack White. Does the character have a seven nation army supporting him?

I’m so looking forward to this. The game surpassed Bloodborne for me which says a lot about me considering Bloodborne was my first soulslike and the one I’ve spent the most researching, watching videos about, playing. Very excited

Viri4thus, (edited )

It does say a lot… Sony waited long enough for someone to come and eat their cake. That said, the world building and layers of lore are a universe ahead in bloodborne compared to P. P is a facsimile of a good soulsborne that only succeeded because Sony waited long enough for us to be so desperate as to accept anything. In a world a sequel to BB existed, P would likely fly completely under the radar.

I’m so excited for this game.

What a world we live in, where cheaper games are seen as less quality because the theory of capitalism has conditioned us to believe higher quality = higher price.

HeyJoe, do games w Expedition 33 Dev Confirms $50 Price Is Correct, '30+ Hours of Main Game'

New franchise needs to build a following first. The lower price point will get more people to try it. I’m sold already, but there’s a ton of people who have no idea what this game is still and won’t until it releases. I hope it’s as good as it looks, and I hope it succeeds and leads to more.

$50 should still be the norm.

turtletracks,

I refuse to ever pay $70 for a game

troyunrau,
@troyunrau@lemmy.ca avatar

If it’s a game I’m going to get hundreds, or sometimes thousands of hours from, then I’ll pay more. If you look at price per hour spent on entertainment, it’s hard to compare. However, you often have to wade through a bunch of shitty overpriced games to find those gems.

Okay, back to EU4 now ;)

Omegamanthethird,
@Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world avatar

I’m kind of in a different boat with this. I’m paying for quality, not quantity. Especially since I don’t have as much free time as I did 20 years ago.

So if I can play through a phenomenal story within a couple months over a 20 hour game (which usually takes me 30 hours) at the height of the hype when people are still talking about it, I love it. Give me efficient storytelling.

In fact, if it’s something longer, it kind makes me rethink it whether I want to pay full price. Why rush?

Ragnarok314159,

I am the same. Game could take 60 hours to complete, and 50 of them are dogshit. Then it’s not a fun game. It’s all about the overall quality of the entire experience.

I would gladly pay $100 for Subnautica 2 if they could pull off another amazing adventure. Would do the same for another Larian studio game.

Corigan,

While I agree with the mind set, I don’t feel the industry is set up to allow consumers to make such informed decisions.

We have review embargos (hey just don’t preorder bro), paid for reviews, blatant lies or mis representation in ads. Demos are few and far in-between. It’s hard to want to pay for more than 60 these days given the constant anti consumer practices that happen in the gaming industry. Why would I pay you more when you clearly don’t respect your customers (most publishers)

I’m at the point where I don’t buy a game until it is on sale and has a ton of reviews. I have such a huge backlog, it doesn’t bother me to not play the latest thing.

Ragnarok314159,

I do the same, follow my patient gamer philosophy.

Until that time I can play guitar and likely have more fun repeatedly failing to learn a new rift. It’s sad that sucking at a guitar is more fun than most modern games.

Ashtear,

I don’t think there’s ever been more game demos than there are right now, even going back to the PC shareware era. I can’t even keep up with all of them on Next Fest these days, much less play any significant number of them.

Also, if your desired game is on GOG, they have a friendly return policy. That hasn’t been a thing since the compact disc era started, so it’s nice to have again.

We still have options.

@itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

hell yeah, þorn and eð user in the wild!

alþough I stand by the opinion þat þe voiced-voicless distinction between þorn and eð is someþing superimposed onto English later on, as eð and þorn were used interchangeably for a time and it was more a question of time period raþer þan voicedness

PhlubbaDubba,

I mean ð distinction is well and truly ðere now, so a spelling reform ðat tries to reinstate a spelling convention from a period when it wasn’t is really just slapping a coat of paint on the same kinds of historical spelling issues ðat English still has.

To me bringing ðem back isn’t a matter of restoring old spelling, it’s a matter of using what once was to make something ðat works for the here and now.

itslilith,
@itslilith@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

My point is more þat we don’t really need þe distinction, a lot of other phonemes are ambiguous in English, and þey’ve not coexisted for a long time historically. Early English mostly used eð, middle English mostly þorn. Not faulting you for using boþ at all, I þink þat’s also valid

RightHandOfIkaros,

I will only do this for games I know I will like, from studios I want to support.

I literally will wait until a sale ends to buy a game made by Yoko Taro or FromSoftware at full price.

Seems to me like they’ve just upped the price $10 with each successive generation of consoles.

SpacetimeMachine,

Games have been around 60 dollars for over 30 years now. Not sure what you’re on about. If they had gone up 10 bucks with each console generation they would be like 150 at this point.

iAmTheTot,

I’m not sure we share the same definition of price gouging.

Don_alForno,

Moderate Inflation (around the 2% target) is necessary for the current economical system to function. It incentivizes people to either invest or spend their money instead of sitting on it.

Katana314,

To me, $70 is a reasonable price based on what bread costs now, but the minimum wage needs to like, triple.

The focus on freemium games and whales may even be driven by America’s wealth gap.

DoucheBagMcSwag, do gaming w Sony to Start Selling Refurbished PS5 Consoles [Push Square]

This is a scheme to control the used console market so they can set their own prices. Hopefully people actually selling their own consoles and undercut them

theangriestbird,

i mean they’ve been doing refurbished consoles for multiple generations now, no? The only new thing is that they’re selling them directly from Sony’s site, rather than going through GameStop like they used to back in the day.

mox,

How would this control people selling their used hardware? I don’t see anything about Sony trying to disable resold consoles.

you’ll get “a product that works like new with genuine PlayStation replacement parts (as needed) that has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and tested”. You will receive all the cables and paperwork you need for a PS5, and it comes with a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty

That’s worth a premium to some people.

DoucheBagMcSwag,

Okay the 12 month warranty is pretty good not going to lie

I checked the local classified ads and their prices don't seem too far out of line with what people are asking. I guess there's still demand even though 2020 seems like a long time ago in computer years. Not from me though, I think the PS3 will be my last. There's no need for a newer console now that games can run on linux.

theangriestbird,

aha i respect your linux dedication. Steam Deck has been a renaissance for gaming on Linux!

thingsiplay, do gaming w Sony to Start Selling Refurbished PS5 Consoles [Push Square]

For a moment I read Refurbished PS5 Pro Consoles, lol. My theory is, the price of the PS5 Pro is this expensive, so the base models look much cheaper now.

theangriestbird,

I think they definitely have a strategy that is timed around the age of the base PS5 release. 4 years old = PS5 Pro and beginning of refurbished console sales, to grab the consumers that weren’t enticed by the base PS5.

jadedwench, do games w Sony Increases PS5 Controller Prices in US, Europe, and More

Long tangent, but I got the Edge or whatever stupid expensive version they have for the extra triggers/levers underneath. I have really small/short palms and don’t have the reach to push all the buttons properly. I wouldn’t be able to play Elden Ring at all without them. I roll and use potions with the levers instead. Even then, it is still painful after a while and some of the contortions I have to do at times can be annoying.

I have the issue of barely having enough “wrap” with my palm and pinky to grip around the hand things that are angled down a little too much. I absolutely despise that the dpad is one of those rocker pieces underneath instead of individual buttons. I will accidentally do a direction I didn’t intend because I rocked the down button too far to the right. It is because the controller still isn’t straight when I hold it. lt is partially rotated in my hand so I can get a little more reach upwards and it makes the dpad usable. Having to compensate the direction of joysticks is super fun. I basically have to death grip the controller with my right pinky and tightly squeezed palm to keep it stable.

When that accessible controller came out for the Xbox I was super bummed it wasn’t for all platforms yet. Doesn’t help I would need to have 2 kits to be able to have separate sides like joycons. Joycons have been my favorite controller of all time as I can comfortably hold them. I tried making a proof of concept sort of gel/shredded memory foam cover, which did help, but it didn’t solve the severe pain in my palm, especially the area under my pinky that I use to death grip the controller. After seeing the glove Martina made after she cut off her pinky, I want to try and make a glove next to take the pressure off, improve grip, and sort of brace/support the part of my hand that I keep hurting.

It sucks that accessories keep getting more expensive. I haven’t had any issues my my edge, but you bet I would be utterly infuriated if it didn’t last when it is almost half the price of the console itself. I have some mechanical keyboards and those things can really get up there in price too. Ergonomic mice are not exactly cheap either. I hate having to use a trackball but so far the only comfortable one is that Logitech one and I have to use the extra angled base it comes with. I game with it.

I’m actually kind of sad so many people deleted their reddit comments because I would have never fixed my ultimate C controller without a comment. I had no idea they had “hall effect” sensors or whatever so I thought I had stick drift until I found a reddit comment mentioning that you can’t have that and to just use rubbing alcohol to fix it, which it did!
