ozoned, do games w Elon Musk reveals 2026 launch for his AI game alongside Grok-made garbage
@ozoned@piefed.social avatar

I honestly can NOT wait for this to be delayed forever or we actually get to see a steaming pile of garbage it actually is. Then Musk will blame the woke left for it sucking somehow.

I seriously don’t see a situation where it releases and it’s even OK. If it does happen then I’ll do something. Like say I was wrong or something else impossible on the internet.

keyez,

They’ll tease some cool trailers, maybe a release date but mainly a preorder to get peoples money and THEN probably never release it.

daggermoon, do games w New Steam study alleges that Valve's store is home to extreme right-wing "wars"

MarcomachtKuchen, do games w "Imagination doesn't need a lot": Disco Elysium successor announces first RPG

Love this so much. Sure the price is steep and I need to check whether I can afford it, but I love them starting off with such an artsy product rather then a game. It seems much more in common with what the ZA/UM art collective originally was

Fedizen, do games w Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support

Mixed results.

gamermanh,

For games that could run on Win7 and 8? Not really

It’s about Steam itself. Not about the games. Steam has a Linux build while the article is about the Windows build.

avater, (edited ) do games w Diablo 4's new mount costs more than the actual game
@avater@lemmy.world avatar

Game journalism these days…

Listen, I don’t play nor like Diablo 4 but is this headline not a little bit misleading since you get the mount skin as a bonus for buying 70€ worth of their stupid premium currency? So you actually pay for the currency and not the mount

Again the disclaimer that I do not play Diablo 4, nor do I defend Blizzard or microtransactions and I’m a true supporter that the coolest looking stuff should be exclusively achievable by actually playing the freaking game and not fucking pay for it!

If you excuse me now, got to continue playing Last Epoch which is even in its early access fucking amazing.

Vlyn,

The issue is that the mount is only available in this way. So if you want it you have to buy the “bundle”, making it a $65 purchase either way.

avater,
@avater@lemmy.world avatar

But are all the other shop skins available by actually playing the game? Because if not I would find the headline still to be quite misleading.

Mini_Moonpie,

If you excuse me now, got to continue playing Last Epoch which is even in its early access fucking amazing.

What’s the deal with the Epoch points? I keep wanting to check it out, but the Epoch point packs makes me think it’s going to be the same deal where you can’t earn cool looking stuff in game and have to buy it.

BURN, do games w 'The Witcher 4 will channel the “freedom” of CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077'

I feel like I’m in the minority here, but imo CP2077 is a much more fun game than the Witcher 3. I couldn’t get more than a few hours into TW3 without getting bored, which was never a problem with CP2077.

It was actually one of the major reasons I didn’t initially buy CP2077, as I very much disliked the gameplay of TW3

homicidalrobot,

Tiny boat we’re in. I started with the witcher 2 right after having played dragon’s dogma and couldn’t handle the extremely clunky combat. My friends assured me 3 was a huge step forward and I was harassed to play the whole game on stream, and I did. Honestly, not that big of a step, the world felt starkly dead compared to other open world fare, the combat was years behind games that came out at the same time, and the story and setting did not feel very unique to me at all.

I felt the same way about a lot of the heavier dialogue that people did at large about Forspoken. Plot felt like it was on stilts, barely hitting the points it needed to to keep my interest. Not that it was out of context bits like Forspoken, but the dialogue felt out of touch with the setting really frequently. Poor selection of magic despite what was shown to you in-setting. Build balancing like an mmo where nothing you craft or otherwise come into owning early on actually mattered at all. 15 more armor was not changing the number of hits you could take in a fight it all.

TW 3 wasn’t super inventive or even really fun compared to other games that launched when it did or even before, and I don’t understand the extreme hype for it when everyone I talk to says the first two games are so wildly different and worth skipping, which has been my experience. If it’s not about the characters’ story arcs across all 3 games, what the hell is it that makes people enjoy it so much? I’ve looked hard, I’ve played hard, and I just never found it.

Pyr_Pressure,
@Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca avatar

Personally I spent over a hundred hours in TW3 and finished all the DLC whereas I couldn’t get past the first few intro missions to CP2077. Gave it up in under 20 hours or so. Can’t even remember why the game just never stuck out as special in any way to me.

BURN,

Funny, cause I’m the same except flipped. I’m going on 300 hours into CP2077, but couldn’t make it past hour 5-6 of TW3 for much the same reason.

Joker,

Same here. I love Cyberpunk, but I just can’t get into Witcher 3 after attempting it a few times. It’s boring, the combat is shitty and I’m just not interested enough in the lore to deal with it. Not that the combat in Cyberpunk is great either. I guess I’m just more interested in that world.

Holyginz, do games w Meta Quest 3 demand allegedly 5 million units below expected level

I had/have the first two quests. But needing a Facebook account was one thing I had to think hard about when I got it because I wanted to delete my account. With Facebook getting worse and worse it means I have zero desire to get a new one.

And to address the article, I would say it isn’t that interest in VR is decreasing, people don’t want meta VR or anything tied to Zuckerberg. I would love a valve index personally, just need to wait to afford it.

NOT_RICK,
@NOT_RICK@lemmy.world avatar

I would already own a quest if just about any other company made it

hightrix,

Hard agree.

If it wasn’t made by Facebook, I’d have bought quest 1, 2, and pro. Easily.

But that’s not the case so I have an OG vive and a psvr2. I don’t really do much PC VR these days.

conciselyverbose,

It's kind of in a weird spot, because it's a niche enthusiast market, owned by a company tech enthusiasts know enough to fucking despise.

I’d be happier if the site didn’t violate the GDPR

A bit of added context:
They are based in Latvia, which is part of the EU, so subject to the GDPR. And under the GDPR, the use of Google Analytics is in fact unlawful without getting explicit and informed (that one’s very important) consent from the user.

Article 44 is the relevant one here, detailing data transfers to so-called third countries outside the EU.

GreenMario, do gaming w Starfield remake created in two days actually lets you fly seamlessly from space to the surface

I would be impressed if they did it in Gamebryo/Creation Engine and solve the “everything is a cell” problem. I mean, No man’s Sky and Elite Dangerous exist and have shown seem less space travel. One guy with DarkBasic did it in the Evochron games for decades.

This comes off as a hey look look at me I can do it in a cave with a box of scraps but BUGTHESDA can’t in 7 years?!

comicallycluttered,

I think the problem is also that Bethesda doesn’t really “do” vehicles, probably due to engine limitations.

Usually, it’s just horses or “passenger” travel (like when you man the guns in FO4 birds). I guess one could maybe consider power armor in FO4 to be kind of like a “vehicle”, but it works more or less the same as just walking around.

Oh, there is dragon riding in Skyrim, but it’s a mess and you don’t have that much control.

I’m surprised the engine can even handle space combat, honestly. And 360° movement as well, which would have been great for dragon riding in Skyrim. But most of the dragons in TES are dead, so we probably won’t get proper dragon riding in whatever TES: VI is.

(Sidenote about dragon riding/combat: Before Larian delved further into CRPGs, they made a regular third person RPG where you could play as a dragon. It was actually pretty fun. Still didn’t have full control, and it was only in certain sections, but it was entertaining. Divinity II: Director’s Cut, in case anyone’s interested. Don’t know how well it’s aged, but I enjoyed it a few years ago.)

GreenMario,

FO4 power armor was close to a vehicle as they got but that might as well been horse code for all I know.

It does suck they can’t do vehicles since it would be nice to have a motorcycle in Fallout or a mad max car.

Oh and Larians entire back catalog is great. They were definitely eurojank back then but Divine Divinity and Div2 is good games.

Ser_Salty,

Power Armor in FO4 is actually classed as furniture in the engine, IIRC

GreenMario,

Lol that’s great. Like that train in FO3 that was some NPC’s head

Ser_Salty,

There have been a couple of mods for Fallout 4 and New Vegas to add vehicles. IIRC the only one that wasn’t just an object floating across the ground was in that big expansion mod made by sex perverts, I forget what it’s called. New something?

ConstableJelly, do gaming w Soulframe is Elden Ring meets Ghost of Tsushima, but with 'Disney princesses' - PCGamesN

Cozy f2p MMO with Disney princess vibes is a mix of Elden Ring and Ghost of Tsushima? This equation does not compute.

Gameplay demo looks fine…but the encounters looked a little manufactured to give the appearance of elden-ring-like combat, when I would wager it’s going to be much more hack n slashy in reality.

sandriver,

Cozy Soulslike is a great concept honestly. I loved the first Dark Souls because it mostly facilitated slow and tactical combat. Favourite build was a pyromancer with a high stability shield. Tweak the numbers to add more tolerance to errors (like the boss demonstration showed) and you do get a much more relaxed Soulslike.

HKayn,
@HKayn@dormi.zone avatar

I’m pretty sure the only reason those two games are mentioned in the headline is to boost the article’s SEO

ConstableJelly,

Eh, the interviewer and developer make explicit references to both in the article.

Tracaine, do games w New Steam study alleges that Valve's store is home to extreme right-wing "wars"

I’ve never considered even using the forums and am only vaguely aware of them. It’s a store, not a social platform. I buy my games, I run the games. Anything else is…kind of weird honestly.

Truscape,

Steam workshop’s always awesome, I use those forums for bug reports. Modders tend to be chill people.

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support

We lost Yuzu because of a Windows 7 user. Whoever that guy was, he deserved this.

SwordInStone,

how?

RightHandOfIkaros,

He got upset at the Yuzu developers for dropping support for Windows 7, and after throwing a tantrum in a GitHub Issue report, he directly emailed Nintendo and their legal team with a massive word salad directly linking to Yuzu. Multiple times. Then within around a month or two Nintendo initiated a lawsuit.

UnsavoryMollusk,

Fuck them then, it’s even worse when you think of the multiple ways you can update or switch to a Linux distro

narc0tic_bird, do games w Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support

Does the CLI still work? If so, you could download and play all the Windows 7 compatible, DRM-free games in your library just fine. Alternatively, if you already had these games installed, they’ll work fine without launching Steam first.
