MODERN WARFARE: How Call of Duty 4 Changed a Genre Forever (Documentary by Ahoy) (youtu.be) angielski

A documentary not only about how CoD 4, but how CoD came into in the first place. I’m currently a few minutes into the video and want to share it here. Documentaries by Ahoy are always enjoyable, without too much fluff and jokes. Highly recomended....

apprehensively_human,

This video made me reinstall cod4 and give the single player another try after all these years.

I don’t think it really holds up very well, even though I have some nostalgia for it.

apprehensively_human,

He mentioned that writer named Stuart and I immediately started anticipating the reveal that Ahoy was directly involved in this story.

apprehensively_human,

I should see if my folks still have my old Gamecube sitting around somewhere gathering dust.

apprehensively_human,

But it could be so much more. People were so hyped for Horizons when we learned we’d finally be getting space legs but it just fell so flat on release.

apprehensively_human,

Black Mesa is a good game with nice graphics, but it does not scratch that nostalgia itch the same way.

apprehensively_human,

I think people know who Ubisoft is, Kotaku.

apprehensively_human,

I’d love to be behind you in line at starbucks

What are some games that "spin" failure states? angielski

What I mean by this, is instead of when you fail and are met with a game over, the game finds some way to keep it going. Instead of being forced to reset to a previous save or an autosave checkpoint, the game’s story continues in an interesting path. Are there any games like this?...

apprehensively_human,

Antichamber was pretty good for this. You would accidentally fall off a bridge or something and expect a game over, only to find an entirely new area to explore. There were no failure states as far as I remember.

apprehensively_human,

The rare comment praising the N64 controller joystick.

apprehensively_human,

Pulling a game from the steam store does not stop people from downloading it if already in their library.

apprehensively_human,

I imagine it will be playable with Proton/Wine. It doesn’t look like there’s a native port for Linux.

apprehensively_human,

Hopefully this includes bug fixes and more compatibility with linux?

I’ve been trying and failing to get my Debian host to stream to an Nvidia Shield Pro

apprehensively_human,

I have to imagine a comment like this does absolutely nothing to their sales figures. People who were going to download a cracked version of their games anyway remain unaffected now that they have a blessing, and I doubt people who weren’t going to pirate would now feel more inclined to do so.

This seems like good PR and frankly it should probably be the default position for games studios.

What are your favorite video games that force you to pull out the pen and paper? angielski

Ever since the language puzzle in Tunic that got me to fill up 6 pocket sized pages of notes over multiple days while trying to puzzle it out as I tried to and, eventually, succeeded at translating the in-game “paper” manual, I’ve had a craving for games that force you to pull out a notebook and take notes/puzzle things...
