hOrni, do gaming w In a safe memory

I wish I was this peaceful.

ElPussyKangaroo, do games w Day 171 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I’ve been playing until I forget to post Screenshots

How’s the overall survival experience? I love this sort of game but sometimes it gets very repetitive and boring…

Darrell_Winfield,

This was one of my favorite games. It has 2 layers to keep you interested. The survival is fun, but it’s not primarily a base builder but a plotline game. You utilize your base to maintain supplies before you venture underground into caves to further the story line. Depending on how you play, half of the game or more will be in the caves progressing the story.

Chip_Rat,

Oh… Oh is that what I was supposed to do?

Found the crafting systems (one for building I guess, one for weapons and food and “handheld” stuff) to be incredibly non-intuitive. For what we all paid, my family had a great evening each accidentally walking into the fire and then running around in a panic onfire while everyone else barely looked up from their craft books.

Darrell_Winfield,

Lol, yeah. I’ve done a few playthrough with some friends and one regularly walked into the fire. Always a good laugh!

There are some storyline things above ground, namely the Crater and sailboat. Those all come along via exploration, but most is underground.

What I really liked is that there’s no character exposition or beating you over the head with the story. It feeds you information slowly, sometimes disjointed. Not until the end does it make it clear what’s going on, so there’s a lot of incentive to find the next piece of story line to see if you were right in what you thought was going on.

ElPussyKangaroo,

This seems intriguing now. I always love it when games prioritize the plot over gameplay…

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

i can see how it can be repetitive. I felt like the cannibal difficulty ramped up fast. From what i understand the game has story elements too, but me and my friend didn’t really touch them yet so it could change

ElPussyKangaroo,

Looking forward to your input on the story element.

Or you could figure out how to use Wiimotes or Joycons on Dolphin - I’ve done enough searching to know it’s possible, but not enough to tell you how.

flying_mechanic,

You used to need GlovePie to set it all up, but I think Dolphin has a driver built in now. You pair the controllers to a PC the same as the console but it was more finicky last time I tried than the pair to console process

Sebastrion,

To use Wii Motes, the best way is Bluetooth passtrough: wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Bluetooth_Pa…The best accuracy is using the original Bluetooth Adapter from a Wii

SplashJackson, do gaming w Can't beat that wall chicken

That’s the guy from Vampire Survivors, right?

InvestBurnout,

Pretty sure he's from dead by daylight

nesc,

I’m positive that he is from super smash bros.

Crackhappy,
@Crackhappy@lemmy.world avatar

Splatoon 2, definitely.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Nah, hes from that one Netflix show

boreengreen, do games w Is Half-Life Opposing Force still known to current gamers, or is this a side game that's fallen through the cracks.

To me Blue Shift and Opposing Force were both fun experiences. Played all games several times. They provided more Half-Life when the craving after finishing the main game had not been satiated.

uid0gid0, do gaming w Nintendo 64 vs PlayStation graphics

The Nintendo one just looks like I’m not wearing my glasses

trolololol,

I’m not wearing my glasses, that explains why I’m confused

Grandwolf319, (edited ) do games w I hate when a PC game is ONLY available on Epic Games store

So I own some games on epic store cause they were free and I said fuck it I’ll sign up for free games.

Haven’t installed the epic games store yet, and it’s been years. The benefits don’t outweigh the drawbacks, clearly.

xavier666,

I use Heroic and got all their free games. I also have Prime so I get more free games on Epic. But Hell will freeze over before I buy a game on Epic.

bitwolf,

Same.
And I hope they can see I’m not even interested in their free games.

AbsoluteChicagoDog, do games w I hate when a PC game is ONLY available on Epic Games store

It doesn’t upset me. It helps me decide which games to avoid wasting my time and money on.

Miss them so much

Mwa, do games w Why are $70 AAA games slashing prices so drastically?

EA Game 🤮

CheeseNoodle, do games w Why are $70 AAA games slashing prices so drastically?

Unbound was basically dead on arrival, its practically just heat with re-shade and barely any actual new content.

SynopsisTantilize,

With the same shitty unoptimization I might add. These games were horribly optimized for what they are. My 8750 and 1060 should not be struggling with this game at 1080p

Exhibit A:

nfs games up to and including MW 2012

These are solid, enjoyable entries in the series. Peaked with Underground 2 and MW 2005, but the takeover/acquisition of Criterion pumped new life into HP 2010 and MW 2012.

Exhibit B:

nfs games released after MW 2012

These are dogshit. Heavy dlc, meh progression, horrible to play on a keyboard, stupid upgrade systems (cards? cards? are you retarded, EA?), always-online, shitty online servers, horrendous physics, so arcadey that they make actual arcade racing games look desirable.

You’ll note that this game is in the second group.

I got it as a gift a couple weeks ago, they paid $10 for it, which I was holding out for >$5 to buy myself; it’s actually better than the last iteration, but not by much. That game - heat - I thrashed on at launch and 6mo later, and when the premium or whatever edition dropped to like $1.25, I finally bought it (10h demo before) and honestly, I want my $1.25 back. Here, $5 for unbound is about right, near the upper limit.

If they hadn’t killed Criterion (the reboot is in name only, the talent jumped ship with the forced merge), nfs might be awesome still. They have to do a metric fuck-load to save this series. I have almost every game, I’m a massive fan of the series… But for the past decade, it’s fucking dogshit.

jordanlund, do games w Why are $70 AAA games slashing prices so drastically?
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Because it’s two years old?

FeelzGoodMan420,

No it’s the damn autumn sale right now. AAA games stay at full price for years when not on sale.

darcmage,

Only if they’re good games that people are still interested in playing. Crappy games slash prices all the time. Exhibit A: Suicide Squad

jordanlund,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

If it were just the Autumn sale, stuff like Space Marines II would have a steeper discount and frankly that sale is more than a little aenemic.

FeelzGoodMan420,

There are obviously variations in the sales.

DashboTreeFrog, do gaming w You won't be able to unsee it

I see it, but the curve and angle of the shine keeps shifting it back to a bulbous nose for me

amio, do gaming w At least it was unique

Soundtrack was damn nice though. David Wise (and Kirkhope from other Rare games of the same-ish era) wrote some excellent stuff.
