If the planets are static and its just the ship that has to calculate N-body physics then its a pretty simple summing of vectors. It only becomes a problem when you have multiple non-static bodies that interact with eachother being simulated.
I remember reading that Japan is very weird in regards to patent law, there’s almost no oversight whatsoever even for incredibly basic concepts like a title screen but there’s kind of a general agreement not to sue eachother. Assuming thats true Nintendo is currently burning a lot of face right now by breaking that precident.
CDPR? admittedly they’re really good at gaining it back again, kinda homer simpsons vibes where they repeatedly fuck up but then make an honest attempt to make things right only to repeat the cycle all over again.
I feel like the villains weren’t awful (yes the rest of the writing was awful) but gearbox didn’t really commit to the bit hard enough. At the start of the game they were clearly being set up as vapid streamer culture twins but it never really escalated beyond that, instead of ticktock villains we just got villains who happen to use ticktock. It was like if upon reaching the city in BL2 Handsome Jack just continued being a corrupt CEO with a penchant for robots and didn’t spiral all the way into megolomania.
Good idea bad execution, if it had escalated to raiding a warehouse full of people strapped into vr goggle to up their view numbers and destroying a crowdfunded giant laser to carve their faces on the moon then they could have made for really good villains. Instead we got stale memes, also the final boss fight was somehow worse than BL1.
Someone on my discord posted the warranty terms and apparently it doesn’t cover unusual damage or useage such as exposrure to rain, sunlight or being used off a paved road. So no its not a truck, in fact it doesn’t even stand up as a car.
Last I saw it the game was pretty functional in some aspects but we’re now at a point where some of the older assets look 2 generations out of date so the game is accumulating a growing amount of artistic debt where the old stuff just doesn’t fit with the newer stuff anymore.
Its worth mentioning that the 12 years was not at all productive. The first 6 years was basically just two guys with rough concepts, only 6 years of actual dev time. Then about 3 years in they got a new creative lead on the project who decided to scrap essentially everything and start from scratch on a whim. Then the devs get the release date the same time we do which is 2 years earlier than they expected having assumed that they’d get around 5 years of actual dev time since being made to start over.
So yeh there was a lot of screwing around by management.
Not to mention the physics are stable enough that people were building helicopters using stage seperators and landing gear long before we got any real joints.
Honestly what roblox kids are willing to do for pitiful pay is scary, if you work in any kind of creative digital medium those kids will do days of your job for a fiver if any real money at all. It won’t be industry quality or anything but damn we got a whole digital version of sending kids down the mines. (And some of these roblox games can have unexpectedly big players behind them exploiting kids)
It is undeniable that the dreamcast was a solid machine that had good games and a sleek look, but was ultimately overshadowed by the goliath that is the PS2....
Its a shame too because it ended up with some really amazing titles (got one as a hand-me-down from an older sibling) that nintendo now keeps trying to kill.

Cyberpunk has really come into its own. I just wish it had more cosmetic options, outside a few iconic outfits there aren’t many options for good looking clothing unless you want to look like a member of a grunge band or go full casual daywear.
Martials are “balanced” its just that they’re balanced around like 8 encounters a day with multiple short rests so that casters actually have to conserve their slots. Which is of course a stupid goddamn way to balance the game because no ones going to play it that way.
Nah man BL2 just has the worst scaling ever. Weapon damage scales logarithmically with level (more or less) so you level up once and all your gear is immediately behind. The other games in the series are way less harsh with it.
Also games have gotten way more complicated since the gameboy colour era. I’ve coded a basic 2D physics engine from scratch (literally just circles with soft collisions) and its not just enough to set up the vector math correctly. You can literally make a true to real life physics model (as far as the math of infinitely rigid perfect spheres on a perfectly flat plane goes anyway) and have all sorts of problems crop up because computers aren’t the universe and order of computation is a bitch.
On one hand people can be jerks, on the other hand there definetaly is a trend of releasing broken games with a ‘patch it later’ mentality.
Its kind of hard to take a side because people being assholes isn’t the solution but remaining civil is just going to encourage the behaviour and we’ll get even more broken releases.
Didn’t colonial marine turn out to actually have really good AI that totally changed the game feel that had been broken by a single misplaced semi-colon or something?
I’ve been waiting so long for a good MMO again. Runescape kinda imploded and I could never get into WoW because its just so horrificly disjointed by all the unmanaged feature creep.
3 struck the perfect balance for me, it was like playing an action movie that didn’t take itself too seriously while still maintaining a tenuous grasp on reality. 4 fully jumped the shark for me and was hard to enjoy.
Frame generation is limited to 40 series GPUs because Nvidias solution is dependant on their latest hardware. The improvements to DLSS itself and the new raytracing stuff work on 20/30 series GPUs. That said FSR 3 is fantastic news, competition benefits us all and I’d love to see it compete with DLSS itself on Nvidia GPUs.
And warframe has been rewarded with a practically methusalian lifespan for a game in its genre, I hope we see the same for baldurs gate 3 with a similar level of ongoing support and improvement.
