Oh to start OSRS blind again like I was a kid (just RS at the time)

Good luck with the new account!

TunaLobster,

I logged into mine a month or 2 ago and realized I was still in tutorial island. I had totally forgotten where I left my character! It was a fantastic experience to go through the F2P quests and leveling again.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

I definitely get why RuneScape was so big back in the day and so many people wish to experience it blind again. It has this really cool feeling to it that I feel like could never be replicated again. It’s rare to come across something like that

It’s on my wishlist too. I love the cow designs and how you can swim in some parts.

Dagnet,

Policy schmolicy. Withholding even one cent you are owed is fucking shitty.

dan1101,

This sort of thing is pretty common in various industries, they let the money accumulate until it reaches a threshold.

Philharmonic3,

Common doesn’t mean not shitty

rickyrigatoni,

What if they female it? It should cost 0.7 cents.

grrgyle,

I remember Retro City Rampage had an homage to this sequence near the end of the game. No lie: I broke out into a cold sweat when the screen first came up, thinking I’d have to grind and grind and grind to get through it.

Luckily the homage is much, much easier than the original.

lemonSqueezy,

I was scrolling to find this post. I used to be able to beat that level on command a gazillion years ago. I retried it recently on the turtles anthology game on the ps5 and it was brutal even with the rewind feature.

My partner and I started playing another modded MC game last night. I always do all the tech mods, automation, digital storage, and building, and she does the magic, farming and husbandry.

We’d been using Fabric for quite a while but since I felt a longing for Mekanism, we decided to make it Forge. It’s not ideal since it isn’t necessarily as performant, and the loading times are a lot longer than Fabric, I just really wanted the convenience that Mekanism offers. Hopefully, more mods and modpacks will switch over to NeoForge.

JackbyDev,

I remember loading Minecraft would take 15 minutes just to get to the start screen with Forge. It might be better now, and it wasn’t always that bad.

shadowedcross,
@shadowedcross@sh.itjust.works avatar

It has definitely gotten better, but it’s still several minutes, compared to the minute or less for Fabric.

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

Thats how my friend group is. I’m the only tech mod person so I have a monopoly on all the engineering things, and the other 3 have their magic mods

shadowedcross,
@shadowedcross@sh.itjust.works avatar

Ha, at least you can get your friend group to play modded MC. When we play it’s usually just the two of us, because our friends don’t wanna deal with all the mods. Sometimes one of them will end up joining, usually by which point I’ve got Applied Energistics setup, which I offer them access to, since at least then they could start their own mod setup more easily.

dogslayeggs, do games w Do people actually starve themselves to play games like World of Warcraft?

This may or may not be a real screenshot, but it definitely feels accurate based on my time in the game.

Yes, people would actually starve themselves to play WoW. They will pee in diapers to not stop playing WoW. Definitely not as much now, but 15 years ago some people were seriously addicted to it.

Grangle1,

I’ve been a part of two different friends’ attempts to quit addiction to MMOs. A high school friend had a problem with Everquest back before WoW. His brother recruited us friends to help give him alternative stuff to do like movie and other game nights. We succeeded, and he was able to put the game down. Some college friends and I were not so successful in pulling one of my roommates away from WoW. Activision Blizzard have it literally down to the science of addiction.

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

I remember EverQuest being called EverCrack back in the day before WoW.

flicker,

I read “EverQuest” and my brain commented, “You mean EverCrack,” immediately.

My cousin was horrifically addicted. Luckily for me, my opinion on subscribing to a game was, "no matter how good a game is, I’m not paying for it over and over, " even in middle school, so he couldn’t convince me to try it.

helloharu,
@helloharu@lemmy.world avatar

I have a friend that refuses to play FFXIV again because how addicted they felt towards it. That came off the back of a WoW addiction that led them to mix up their priorities between food, alcohol and playing the game. The whole addition to both of those was a way for dealing with other mental health issue, yet only made matters worse with how those games work.

I also had my own issues with game addiction when I was dealing with grief over a death. Fortunately it didn’t impact my physical health but it did impact other areas. I certainly wasn’t looking after myself and my surroundings as best as I could back then, and neglected a lot in my life.

My friend found a way of dealing with game addiction by removing them entirely, I found ways to prioritise other areas of my life and continue with that while keeping gaming strictly as a hobby.

Often I think people become addicted to games like any other substance due to dealing with external factors in life that they’re not getting help for. It takes a lot to realise there’s a problem, it takes even more to deal with the root causes. Some people also have low thresholds for addiction and which exacerbates it.

callouscomic,

It was only obtainable for a short period of time. It was rare and stood out. If you had one, it was something to show off. So they’d literally link it in chat to show off. It turned into a meme of people looking for any excuse to link it. Hence “did someone say…” variants with it linked. Then it went too far and wouldn’t die. Then people without the item would do it without the link. Just got stupid.
