Night Dive should've been given some of these old Lucas Arts SW games. These were my childhood, and I've watched as Aspyr has been assigned game after game of my childhood to be released on modern platforms, and time and time again they either don't give enough of a shit to do anything more than get them running (sometimes barely that, Republic Commando runs worse on a switch than an original Xbox), or they're not given the proper time or financial budget to pull it off.
I keep watching clips of Helldivers 2 and it looks fun but I don’t understand why I would play it over Deep Rock Galactic, especially when the original Helldivers actually has splitscreen co-op.
So what does this game’s combat bring over Deep Rock Galactic? It seems a lot flatter and less tense.
I really want to see a good YouTube reviewer critically compare them.
I’ve played both games and tbh I wouldn’t really compare them, I like them both individually. Helldivers 2 is a lot more focused on combat and fighting overwhelming hoards of enemies. On higher difficulties sometimes stealth or just running away is the best solution because of how absurd the number of enemies are. Its honestly really fun just trying (sometimes in vain) to thin out enemy numbers while protecting an objective. That being said, everyone gets access to cool down based, very powerful orbital abilities that do everything from calling down powerful support weapons to dropping a 500kg bomb on a bunch of enemies. At the moment there are 2 different enemy factions that require pretty different playstyles to overcome as well. Honestly pretty dope game, check out SkillUp on YouTube for a good review of the game.

I confused, Deep Rock Galactic is almost entirely focused on fighting overwhelming hoards of enemies. Stealth isn’t an option since they aggro at you which seems like a significant difference though.
Having played both games, I gotta say while DRG does have hordes, they’re not on the same level as HD2. HD2 is the first game in a while that truly has made me feel overwhelmed by the amount of enemies thrown at me and I love it. In HD2 I even find myself doing stealth a lot to sneak past patrols.
Overall though I don’t think it’s worth it trying to compare DRG to HD2. They might look similar in some aspects. But they are vastly different in gameplay, experience, and mechanics. It’s apples to tomatoes, sure they’re both technically red fruits, but that’s where the similarity ends.
I love all three, but they are quite different in their gameplay. In DRG you choose a class upfront so your role is more defined by this choice, the challenge is mainly about getting your bearings and traversing the terrain, and the mission objectives are (IMO) more involved. In HD2, the challenge is more about surviving against hordes of enemies without killing each other. In DRG, if you shoot somebody you hear a funny voice line, but I don’t think I’ve ever killed a teammate by shooting them. In HD2, this happens all the time.

I don’t see the logical connection here, but you do you. Perhaps worth pointing out, the original Helldivers doesn’t have splitscreen but rather shared screen coop – meaning you can’t get separated from your teammates, which is both a feature and a pretty big limitation.
I have played both DRG and HD2. I think you simply have to play HD2 to answer that question. It might not be for you, but having played both games “a lot flatter and less tense” is how I feel about DRG.
Yeah, I'm not sure why Phantom Liberty is in the running at all. Maybe because the 2.0 update was such a significant upgrade to the base game that they're classifying it as a new entry? I'm not really sure what else they're thinking.
I’m not going to lie, I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun playing a shooter as I did playing Cyberpunk after the 2.0 patch and Phantom liberty DLC.
It became one of my top games of all time, and despite having finished it and trying to force myself to play something else, I’m itching to redownload it so I can get back to night city.
It took a while but I don’t think it should be excluded from the list just because of its original shortcomings. The game’s come a long way and it’s absolutely a contender for game of the year.
That was me just letting my emotions for the game get the better of me. The best and only award it could have won is the Best Ongoing Game award, which it won at TGA.
It’s good to see CDPR finally get back into gaming’s good graces and I’m sure they’ve learned their lesson as the public and critics were far, far more harsh for the release of Cyberpunk 2077, than they were for Witcher 3. Time will tell what state Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 II release in!
Then they should go back in time and release the current version instead of the original. Phantom liberty is an expansion, 2.0 is a patch, neither is a game.
Yeah, true. It was good of them to get recognised but they really shouldn’t be considered for anything beyond the award they won at TGA (Best Ongoing Game)
The Game Awards also treated it like a game. I think it’s giving it special treatment. Some DLCs like Freedom Cry were available without owning the base game, but that’s not even the case here.
I tried this for the first time over the past week or so. The driving immediately stuck out as the weakest point, so having more travel options sounds good.
I kinda wish they had just RGGed it and put everything in like a five block radius. I’m extremely early, but the city and environment just feel bad.
I like the driving now that I understand it is more simulation than arcade. You can’t just hammer the gas all the way down because you will have no traction, unlike GTA. You have to either slow down to turn, or you have to learn to slide turns. The steering is a little hard to get used to, but tweaking the settings makes it much better.
If you think the driving sucks now, you shoulda seen how it was at launch. Half the cars would just slide around like you were on ice whenever you tried to stop. They’re at least servicable now. Which is good, since they also removed the exploit that allowed you to stack momentum while on foot by dashing while slowing down time. Still nowhere near as good as driving in GTA but better than driving in an Ubisoft open world game.
Honestly this is a pretty big deal. Mario Kart 8 has been an absolute sales juggernaut. It’s been largely speculated that mario kart 9 has been delayed just because 8 keeps on making millions. It’s just so uncommon to see a game sell in such huge numbers for over 6 years like that, especially because the game itself is way older than that and it didn’t even get any expansions/dlc until very recently.
It is not surprising to see an older game continue to sell a lot, especially a child/family oriented game, on a child/family oriented console. A game with basically no real competition in its category.
It is surprising every time a game sells this many copies, because it's so rare. By Wikipedia's count, only 5 other games have sold better, and for the length of time it's been on the sales chart, we can realistically only compare its success to GTA V and Minecraft.
You’re right, that is a really incredible run. I think their just digging their heels in and being a contrarian because they want to stand by their hot take that journalism is bad now.
Even if it’s android, the hardware is most likely not made for running games. You can buy android devices for emulation or indie games for way less money.
I always found it kinda sad that Destiny has a lot of lore, but if you are a new player / returning player you can’t experience the lore that you have missed because it’s just removed from the game.
lol, most ps owners don’t use ps plus and it’s not one of the highlights of the systems. Being able to play Spider-Man 2. Now that’s a highlight. They pump out amazing exclusives that far surpass anything from Xbox which keeps them very viable without ps plus being as competitive as gamepass is.
The exclusives were how I used to justify a PS, but now that they are coming to PC after a year it makes that decision harder to justify. Particularly because they usually look better on PC and mods can be used, so as long as I can stand to wait I usually have a better experience on PC.
2019/2020 was a poor year from a price/longevity perspective, yeah. All of us who got a GPU around those days didn't necessarily get the best deal. I'm satisfied with what I got out of my 3060Ti but I feel that many wouldn't be.
I don't mention 2021 because, well, you know, it's not like you could even find one so
