At some point, it’s had to hit full saturation.

sebinspace,

Fuck, even I bought the game, and I’ve been a simcade Forza/Gran Turismo addict for years, haven’t played MK since the N64.

It’s good. Really good.

Time for Mario Kart 9.

4am,

Tour was 9. Apparently they’re working on “MKX” for switch 2, but it’s all just rumors with zero evidence.

superduperenigma,

Mortal Kombat X came out in 2015

magic_lobster_party,

They’re continuing the 7 ate 9 trend?

Journalism is really hitting all-time lows these days, huh?

They really will make an article on anything just to get clicks and ad revenue.

signor,

??? It’s ign not cnn.

RightHandOfIkaros,

IGN, Kotaku, they’re all the same.

Stelus42,

Honestly this is a pretty big deal. Mario Kart 8 has been an absolute sales juggernaut. It’s been largely speculated that mario kart 9 has been delayed just because 8 keeps on making millions. It’s just so uncommon to see a game sell in such huge numbers for over 6 years like that, especially because the game itself is way older than that and it didn’t even get any expansions/dlc until very recently.

RightHandOfIkaros,

It was on two consoles, and was one of the earlier Switch releases. Its not surprising that it sold so many copies at all.

WarmSoda,

It’s not surprising a game from the last console has been in the top 20 until just now? 78 consecutive months it was there.

It’s not total sales. It’s sales each month.

RightHandOfIkaros,

Skyrim is still selling copies. So no, its not surprising.

WarmSoda,

Each month. Not total sales.

RightHandOfIkaros,

It is not surprising to see an older game continue to sell a lot, especially a child/family oriented game, on a child/family oriented console. A game with basically no real competition in its category.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

It is surprising every time a game sells this many copies, because it's so rare. By Wikipedia's count, only 5 other games have sold better, and for the length of time it's been on the sales chart, we can realistically only compare its success to GTA V and Minecraft.

jopepa,

You’re right, that is a really incredible run. I think their just digging their heels in and being a contrarian because they want to stand by their hot take that journalism is bad now.

Lemonyoda, do gaming w YouTuber The Completionist's Open Hand Foundation Accused of Keeping Charitable Donations - IGN

Sounds Like fraud to me. The Missing Link is the Publicity and Sponsoring for Girard (His Brother) and His Events.

They seem to kind of wanted to dodge this bullet by Not mishandling the Money directly, but the Publicity for the Streamer himself Kind of pays for the Event as well as mishandling the sponsored equipment.

Attention equals money on YouTube

No reaction or Statement whatsover also seems like getting legally ready for the fight to come.

dillekant, do gaming w YouTuber The Completionist's Open Hand Foundation Accused of Keeping Charitable Donations - IGN

I think this is less corruption and more vanity. There are a lot of charitable organisations out there who will routinely donate over a million dollars. They’ll get a hospital wing or entrance or statue or something named after them. I think compared to those charities, open hand is incredibly small.

My guess is their strategy was to do a bulk donation to get some kind of recognition for their mum. They were probably hoping they’d have much larger sums in a shorter time, and then time just kept on going.

The problem is, that would have been fine if it was their money they were doing this with, but they’re doing these shenanigans with other people’s money, and now open hand is probably done for as a charity.

Taxes are stupid complicated. I imagine it’s perfectly possible that this guy just didn’t know he was supposed to do something with taxes when doing charity. I’d wait for the investigation to wrap up before jumping to conclusions on this.

Sendbeer,

It’s all out there in the public filings. It’s not a matter of taxes, the issue is they haven’t made ANY charitable donations at all since 2014 despite publicly claiming they were. He may have not been aware of it for some time, but even after he said he discovered it he kept making public claims that his all the money was going to charities.

The money has just been sitting in an account paying administrative fees. The good news is most the money is still there and he has an opportunity to make it right.

Potatos_are_not_friends,

Honestly I would have said me a few years ago.

The PSP was a AMAZING system. Not because of the games. But because it was such a great system for emulation.

But this is a post Steam Deck world.

RGB3x3,

But this doesn’t even do what a PSP does. It doesn’t play games natively, it just streams from your PS5 that you already have to own.

It’s essentially the Wii U.

FooBarrington,

The WiiU was it’s own console that actually had interesting integrations with the tablet. The Portal can’t do anything like that since there is no second screen.

It’s more like a portable Steam Link.

ILikeBoobies,

Wii U is a better console than the PS5 in part because of the game pad (not power wise)

This helps close the gap although the Wii U still comes out ahead

I don’t doubt the guy had good intentions at first, my theory is that greed got to him as the money started to pour in. What would have been the end goal if nobody ever notices? Can you even hide this kind of money from authorities as a charity organization?

However, I think he still can salvage the situation and his some of his reputation if he owns up to his mistakes and donates all of the money now.

ampersandrew,
@ampersandrew@kbin.social avatar

I don't think greed is the best explanation when it's his whole family's charity and none of the money has gone into anyone's pocket.

Sendbeer,

Yeah seems like ignorance or maybe he got so held up on trying to make the best decision possible that he got into decision paralysis. It happens to all of us at some point. But fucking 10 years. At least the money is still there and hopefully this will get something rolling.

Low demand product and are creating hype going into the holidays. I wish this was another PSP or Vita both of which I bought at release but this is not it. If I could play my PS5 games not streaming that would be amazing but it’s a streaming device that is needs WiFi connectivity. I am not expecting PS5 level of performance out of it based on the size and cost of this product. I really wonder who their target audience is and what market research they used for this one!

criticalthreshold, do games w PlayStation Portal Is Out Today, But Fans Are Having a Hard Time Finding One - IGN

So this is like if the Switch charged you an extra $200 for the hand-held part?

This will be either hugely successful or will die an awful death and develop a PS Vita cult following.

rimjob_rainer,

There won’t be a cult because this is no standalone device you can hack or play games on without a PS5.

XTornado,

Wasn’t based on Android? I mean… Somebody could eventually run something on there not big games that’s for sure.

rimjob_rainer,

Even if it’s android, the hardware is most likely not made for running games. You can buy android devices for emulation or indie games for way less money.

XTornado,

Of course but my point was that it will probably be “hacked” by someone.
