Empricorn,

“Action role-playing game”, in case anyone else is annoyed the acronym is continuously used, yet never explained.

Empricorn,

Modding is not a commercial venture, Nintendo! Get fucked.

Empricorn, (edited )

Shadow of the Erdtree DLC comes out this month after being developed for 2 years. Even amazing games take forever to develop, I’m certainly not waiting half a decade for another fucking Starfield…

Empricorn, (edited )

It’s literally brave of you to come to this community and this thread and say that you love your console. And then to express positivity for PC users! You are exactly what we need more of in gaming.

Empricorn,

These giant corporations don’t even have to be quiet about it anymore, there’s just no consequences. They couldn’t care less about you, me, their customers, or their employees.

Empricorn,

I guess? If your purpose is to annoy people trying to discuss things…

Empricorn,

That’s not maximum profit, though! They could have created timed content, events, literally anything and would have probably made more money because of the cultural relevance…

Empricorn,

Exactly.

Empricorn,

It’s all about timing, just like face buttons. Platforming or fighting games, you gotta have that instant response. Aiming or acceleration needs the precision of analog. So, “depends on the game” is my hot take…

Empricorn, (edited )

I misread that as “enhanced by Spyro”. And yeah, most things are…

Empricorn, (edited )

You are a poet. But seriously, you’re so right. I don’t even like the floaty fighters in Smash Bros!

Empricorn,

Well, good news! Most of the “triple a” publishers will start charging $70! Talk about making me want to wait before I ever buy your game (maybe)…

Empricorn,

“Just leave your husband lol it’s not that complicated.”

Empricorn,

Jon Snow…

Empricorn,

You think we like it!? Stiffing the human who relies on those tips to survive will not change tipping culture.

Empricorn,

Lol, nice strawman.

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability. (lemmy.world) angielski

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...

Empricorn,

THANK you. Fuck the upvotes, that person is objectively wrong. Maybe they just didn’t play that many games during the early PC/console era?

Empricorn,

I genuinely have no interest in anything he does any more. Not actively boycotting his projects or anything, more complete disinterest. And I’m not even saying all art has to be viewed through the lens of the artist. But there are people that have such memorable or distinct performances that afterwards they have trouble getting other roles… This is like that, but cranked up to 11.

And I know he’s a meme and we joke about it… but because of his weird hangups he chose to use violence on another person on a world stage, with cameras on him. By his own actions he made it impossible for me to lose myself in any character he plays, instead I’ll only think about The Slap.

Empricorn,

It’s… Eve Online. Even I know what the gameplay entails, and I’ve never played it. What did you think you were getting into!?

Empricorn,

Haha, totally fair! Eve Online is just kind of famous for being a “spreadsheet simulator”. I’m sure that’s at least partly unfair but again, never played it!

Empricorn,

That’s only for VAC games, right? The historical advice given by modders is to share your library, and use another account to mod it. If you accidentally login to the online portion of a game with a mod enabled, only that account is banned not the library owner.

Empricorn,

So, the distinction is that they are getting rid of consoles… later? Wow, thanks. That was fair!

Who, in your opinion, is the most annoying character in any game?

Personally, it’s Faith from Farcry 5 for me. Uninteresting dialog that can be summed up to “I was bullied once” and that’s it. Literally every other character is so much more interesting. Jacob gives you a sequence where you run through a gulag which he then uses against you, John tries to kill you and is openly hateful...

Empricorn,

Almost no good movie/TV/Anime have been made. They’re nearly all just cashing in on the popularity. If one is releasing, assume it’s bad until proved otherwise…

Empricorn,

“You get to own the experience! By which I mean ‘lease’. Money, please!!!”

Empricorn,

We will continue to cherish and nurture each and every Pokémon and its world

“Anyway, here’s another broken, lackluster game and the new Pokemon are a pile of garbage and a ring of keys.”

Empricorn,

Can I get a bigger headline that reads “GameShark still exists!” Because that is bigger news.

Empricorn,

Oof, that would drive me crazy and be a refund request. I’ll never claim that either is superior (and I’m sure I’m in the minority for being used to inverted), but not having the option to change it is inexcusable. I don’t know the percentage, but that’s got to be a significant portion of people that are so used to it, they can’t switch!

Empricorn,

Aw shit, here we go again…

Empricorn,

This is the first “happy cry” I’ve seen in this thread, and I’m so glad I found it! That sequence at the end of New Donk City was so great…

Empricorn,

Some games are better with a controller. Some PC users prefer controller…

Empricorn,

Or just y’know: provide a service, make a profit, provide people with stable jobs, keep on going. I know it sounds crazy, but you don’t have to have all the money…

Empricorn,

It’s The Pokemon Company. They said they might make it, not that they’d put the time and care into it to make it great…

Empricorn,

I’d like to take this opportunity to announce that there may be a chance for me to make scrambled eggs today. I won’t be taking questions…

Empricorn, (edited )

There’s a lot of reasons why emailing passwords is not the best practice… But AI bots stealing your password to give people free demos is a wild paranoid fever dream.

EDIT: Apparently, I replied to a joke.

Empricorn,

Well, I don’t think it was written by a “journalist”. It was probably written by AI, at least in part…

Elon Musk demanded a cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 while wielding a 200 year old gun: "I was armed but not dangerous" (www.pcgamer.com)

While Elon’s then-partner Grimes was recording her part in the game as cyborg popstar Lizzy Wizzy, the erratic tech billionaire turned up with an antique firearm to “insist” on being included in the game. “The studio guys were like sweating,” Grimes is quoted as saying. Musk adds “I told them that I was armed but not...

Empricorn, (edited )

it’s unclear if Musk did actually get the cameo in the end.

Uh, what? How is that unclear? Is he in the game? No?? Then he didn’t “get the cameo”, even if they went so far as to map his face, etc…

Empricorn,

Not even slightly sure. But out of all the people playing, modifying, and data-mining it, they still haven’t found an obviously Musk face somewhere…?

Empricorn,

Is Unity a Republican? They seem to want to be greedy and wrong at every possible opportunity…

Empricorn,

That… actually doesn’t answer it. If the games I paid for only exist on my hard drive and not on any store… what happens when the drive eventually fails?

Empricorn,

Okay, thanks! You’re right, that’s the main thing I care about. The far-superior Original Xbox version of GTA: San Andreas (among others) can only be played on Xbox and Xbox 360…

Private
Empricorn, (edited )

Definitely the ones that simply aren’t available. If I ever get my PC upgraded, I know I can download emulators, but in the meantime, several incredible games are simply not playable. Since I was an Xbox kid I am currently revisiting:

  • Jet Set Radio Future
  • Ninja Garden Black
  • GTA: San Andreas (the original, far-superior one. It didn’t add visual/gameplay glitches and all the amazing songs are still in it, unlike the “Definitive” Edition)

The thing is, my old consoles still work. It’s the controllers that are bad. I have dozens of original Xbox, 360, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One controllers that drift, are flat-out broken, or a button is just wonky. My solution? An adapter that lets modern controllers work with old consoles! I use the Brooks Wingman XB2, but there are others. My favorite controller ever is the Xbox Elite Series 2. It is not just customizable, but sturdy and has outlasted many of my other controllers. So now I can play retro games, wirelessly, with zero latency, with turbo functionally!

To be perfectly clear, I have no affiliation with either company and gain zero benefit if they double in profits, or die out and close up shop. I’m just a fan…

Empricorn,

Oh really? Every SSD has an end date, you can’t overwrite them. Yet Microsoft has a special (encrypted) partition in the internal XBOX that has to match the main board. Because of this, you can’t simply open it and swap the drive. In many cases, cloning the partition has failed necessitating sending the entire thing to Microsoft to fix (for a fee).

How’s that for Right To Repair…

Empricorn,

Thank you for your response. I get what you’re saying but no matter what your stance on piracy is, it’s gonna happen. Absolutely inevitable. If (but mostly when) that encrypted partition is broken, they will load up a new 4TB SSD loaded with games they didn’t pay for, add the encrypted partition, pop it in their Xbox Series X, and they’re off to the races!

But in the meantime, absolutely everyone suffers. Anyone who has an SSD fail (remember: they have limited write cycles!) will pay the price in lost saves and time/money spent sending it to Microsoft. And after the encryption is defeated? Then only legitimate Xbox gamers who pay for their games will be hurt by this. And keep in mind it also adversely affects the less technologically-skilled people more.

So in summary, yes; I absolutely will blame Microsoft for implementing a measure that will only slightly slow down piracy attempts while permanently punishing and inconveniencing everyone else…
