@elouboub@kbin.social avatar

That's pretty impressive! It'll pay for at least 50 full-time developers at 100k/year! They can make some really big changes with that kind of money!

Rewrite in Rust? :P

Edit: kekw, been on the internet too long and NA-maffed that

MarcomachtKuchen, do games w Godot Engine hits over 50K euros per month in funding

This is great news! Can anyone explain me how the engine Managed to get 25k BEFORE the the unity Desaster? It seems like a really high number without mayor Investors

geosoco,

This isn't that strange for a number of open source projects. I don't know Godot's specifics, but lots of folks are willing to toss a few bucks via patreon or other sources. They keep a list of donors who don't mind being named in the source code, and it includes a few companies that make monthly donations. I'm sure they get a number of grants like this one from Epic.

There's a number of mastodon servers where people pay donate monthly to them.

MarcomachtKuchen,

Man People can be so awesome. All the Bad news makes me forget that way to often

It has corporate investors/sponsors at the gold level one of them being gambling service and the rest being mostly mobile devs. The pateron hasn’t really gone up since last year.

jdf038, do games w Portal 2 VR mod gets an early release

Damn this is exciting. I really enjoyed “the lab” which isn’t portal but portal adjacent because of the characters etc. and was hoping valve would just do them themselves but I know that’s a big ask

FooBarrington,

There is a portal VR game which has been out for a couple of years: store.steampowered.com/app/…/Portal_Stories_VR/

It’s short, but really fun!

jdf038,

Lmao this is in my library and I forgot about it. Thanks!

kipo, do gaming w HP are interested in making a SteamOS handheld as the Windows experience sucks

“HPGamerMate requires an active HP Game-On subscription for offline gaming functionality.”

“Remember: You can unlock exclusive HPGamerMate features when you link a valid HP Instant Ink subscription!”

p03locke,
@p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Worse, they would make the hardware in such a way that you need special screwdrivers to open it, and even if you get access to it, the internal design is so hostile that it makes replacing parts a 4 hour experience.

kipo,

“Please submit all fears and worst-case scenarios to the HP Product Design & Improvement Team using our online portal. We strive to implement the most popular ideas into our products.”

kipo,

“The HPGamerMate includes a patented AI-powered blockchain-secured cloud-enabled software-encrypted physical lock on the back of the unit to prevent unauthorized access to the inside of the device. Any attempts to circumvent the hardware lock are considered to be circumvention of the software encryption and will be prosecuted under the Digital Millinnium Copyright Act of 1998 or your region’s specific laws.

HP takes the security of its products seriously and will never burden users with being able to service our devices.”

DebatableRaccoon,

It’s a bold assumption that parts would even be available to buy.

JustARegularNerd,

…security by obscurity? Guess when Linux finally explodes in popularity, you’ll see me over on FreeBSD instead

okamiueru,

In what way does “security by obscurity” apply here?

desktop_user,

fewer consumer targeting Linux viruses because smol usr base

okamiueru,

I see. That’s not what “security by obscurity” means in my world, but the expression certainly sounds like it could. It’s not like I own the meaning of words, so it’s interesting to hear what it means to others. Could also have been meant figuratively, I suppose.

JustARegularNerd,

I meant it in the sense of using an obscure operating system to be less likely to be targeted by a threat actor.

Or to be more general, using obscure software for increased security, over actually correctly configuring and using secure software.

Viruses already exist for Linux and have for a long time. They are less prevalent than Windows but this obviously shouldn’t be the primary defense strategy for your device.

No announcement or confirmation from Night School Studio regarding GOG, Steam, the Playstation Store, or the Nintendo eShop as of yet. My guess is they would give a decent warning announcement if it were to leave those outlets as well, but regardless I did download my copy from GOG to my backup drive just in case.
