I figured there was enough already to complain about, but if this is now what we’re complaining about, I start to think the game isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be.
I’m 7 hours in and having a blast (pun intended). It’s an alright game if you’re not into SW, it’s an awesome game if you are. Reminds me a lot of Hogwarts Legacy, the game didn’t bring anythinbg new to the market, but it’s fun if you’re into the theme.
There have been a few technical difficulties but nothing as bad as games I played before, which got much higher ratings and didn’t get blasted for it as hard as people do with this game.
People just really let their hate for Ubisoft take over and jump on that social bandwagon for internet points, even though the game plays barely like any other Ubisoft game I’ve played in the past 30 years.
I bet later today Metacritic user reviews will be flooded with people who haven’t even played the game and just base their entire opinion on a few buggy game clips.
Why do you assume that any bad review is from someone who hasn’t played the game? People are allowed to have negative opinions just as much as people are allowed to have positive ones.
Just because you are enjoying the game doesn’t mean that everyone else has to too.
I never said I assume that every bad review is from someone who hasn’t played.
But you can’t ignore the insane amount of hate Ubisoft is getting for the most insignificant non-issues just because they’re Ubisoft. It takes like a few seconds to notice how the troll armies are linking stuff from various clickbait YouTubers and streamers on social media, and no doubt a vast majority of negative feedback is coming from there.
I’m not ignoring the legit issues this game has, because they are definitely present. And I’m doing my part in reporting them to Ubisoft, instead of making trollposts about it on social media, so we can all enjoy a better game. Sadly that isn’t part of the majority’s crusade against Ubisoft, they’re just out there farming internet points, banking on the circlejerk hate.
I can almost guarantee that the upcoming Metacritic user reviews are a prime example of “Hue hue Ubisoft bad”.
It takes only a minute to check on Metacritic what the majority of negative reviews are about.
There are a few legit ones, but most are just trashtalking Ubisoft. Or saying horsecrap like “looks like PS3 games”, which it clearly doesn’t. Or every positive review is “paid by Ubisoft”, and people even complaining about it being a woke political agenda, fucking lmao.
I strongly doubt these trolls even installed the game.
Ubisoft has clearly made a name for itself by making mediocre content and this game has only reinforced that image but being upset about that is wrong apparently.
The game clearly doesn’t appeal to the majority of players and that makes you upset. Blaming the “ubisoft haters” or the “anti woke” just sounds like you’re trying to find a convenient scapegoat for why the game isn’t doing well. If the game was good people would play it regardless of who the publisher is.
Honestly, about 5 hours in and I love it. More depth than I expected. Actual stealth with multiple mechanics around it. The gang rep system. It’s great. I have mixed feelings on Kay as a person, but I’m curious to see where it goes.
Fun fact, you can still shoot on the speeder once you fill your adrenaline by driving a bit crazy, then you do a red dead slow down, target selection style shooting.
Damn that’s crazy. I thought TF2 was one of those games you can’t play anymore, because they had people abusing bugs to crash servers or whatever. But it got fixed and you can genuinely play it like… 7+ years after release? Titanfall 2 also used to use the “we need you to buy mtx to keep the servers open” strategy, lmao. I also think the artists behind TF and TF2 are leading passion for the project and a few have just made more art in the same vein in their free time, as well as more collabs and promotions after release. But again this is years ago.
Hate to agree but yeah. We're buying everything for Steam now since we put a Steambox (Bazzite) in the gaming room. The PS5s are now just legacy boxes.
That would be the case for techy people like us, but growing number of people cant handle anything more complicated than a phone OS these days that I think consoles will continue to have a purpose.
That would be pretty dope! That’s even something someone can start a small business selling without needing a license, I guess! Take orders for hardware and then assemble and install a gaming environment based on Linux. Stoinks go brr!
I don’t know if I have met anyone complaining about Ciri being the protagonist of Witcher 4. Even the most conservative people I know who are fans of the series are pumped about her being the main character because they love the story and it’s the only logical way forward. The only complaints I have heard are that in universe she’s kind of overpowered for a video game protagonist. I think people whining about this are fake fans or just agitators who don’t even play these games.
Does anyone defend them? I think what happens is that people get mad at them but then still buy the games anyway hecause they’re absolute fucking idiots. I believe this is what happens.
Same goes for the people who whine about how broken COD is yet still buy it every single year. People often wonder why the game industry is the way it is, but then you realize the average person has a gold fish brain and will keep wasting their money on crap just to be disappointed over and over. Companies absolutely love that kind of customer and would rather rely on them than actually try.
No, make it a entirely employee-owned company, so they can vote the execs out, sanitize the culture, and keep the thousands of worker out of unemployment
The workers, the gamers, and the industry are glad you’re not in charge of anything, punishing them for things they have no control over, and wasting good talents and infrastructure.
You want to use the “throw everybody out and see what happens”, and you claim how much better things would be under your governance.
You’re talking like a Elon Musk wanna-be, even using shitty metaphors that mask all the complexity of the problems, and the cruelty that these kinds of decisions imply.
You want to throw 20k employees out without any consideration for the economic and personal consequences, not to mention all the other companies around who will see their business sometimes heavily impacted.
All this to make a stupid metaphor. You’re 14 at best.
You needlessly want to punish tens of thousands of people for the acts of a few hundred. It’s cruel, pointless and very damaging, and your tirades from a high-school essay only support the shallowness and immaturity of your thinking. I won’t waste any more time on you.
I've been increasingly frustrated with clickbaity coverage and headlines. Credit to Polygon for being just as obviously opinionated as Gamesradar but titling and writing their piece way more professionally.
I mean, yeah, Ubisoft's lawyers are arguing that the arguments of a lawsuit against them are wrong, that's hardly surprising. Given that they're being sued for taking down an online game they would certainly argue that they had no obligation to keep the game online indefinitely.
It's an interesting case and there are... creative arguments on both sides, but being mad that Ubisoft would argue that the text of their EULA applies seems so weird.
For the record, and because I'll be hounded for this, I've signed all relevant petitions to request regulation about digital ownership that creates an obligation to provide offline versions or access to server code. I'm all for making it illegal to build planned obsolescence into software. That doesn't mean I'm not bothered with bad journalism that I happen to agree with.
Be honest, you were ready to do some hounding, saw that tackled preemptively and decided to pivot. I can see the hounding intent from here. Those ears are so droopy you're becoming a better boy as we speak.
Yup. I can sit next to a fellow programmer for hours in a pit, but you put me next to some Account Service jackass who’s on the phone all day and I’ll snap!
i’m sorry that you have to deal with the outfall of this, OP. gamers are notoriously the most overly sensitive group to generalize, even when they’re meant to think “i recognize that this is pointing out bad apples in my community”. instead, they immediately start defending themselves as if you specifically named them
the sane response is to go “wow that is awful. the gaming community does indeed contain some terrible people, i am glad to be one of the good ones and will distance myself from this behavior”
the sane response is to go “wow that is awful. the gaming community does indeed contain some terrible people, i am glad to be one of the good ones and will distance myself from this behavior”
I’d say the saner response is none at all. This seems like a pretty niche community issue somewhere on the internet involving at most <100 people. I doubt anyone here is closer then 3 degrees of separation from anyone involved. Why would you expect any of the outsiders here to “take a stand,” based on incomplete information?
Yes, but how many of these niche communities are there? Hell, lemmy itself is a niche community and everybody here should take a stand against this sort of stuff occurring here.
On here I’d 100% agree, though if some member here got into some kind of discord drama that you weren’t apart of, why would you choose a side? You’ll have incomplete information, and no doubt one of them will claim they were harassed while leaving out some important details.
