BobKerman3999, do xbox w Bethesda hired the creator of a Skyrim clutter mod to design Starfield's "lighting and clutter"

Isn’t this a betrayal of trust? She disclosed the stuff after the fact, how can you trust her again? She should have said she works for them for the beginning.

tehevilone,

Considering how much work Elianora has done for the modding community, not really.

Plus, it’s active game dev. Of course they’re gonna have to sign a form of NDA, and given they’re known for their work, it makes sense that BethSoft would have a clause stopping any discussion of work before launch.

BobKerman3999,

So then no comment until the NDA expires. Doing this to me looks like hidden self promotion

Solarius,

Why can’t you trust a modder because they got hired for the company that owns the game they’re modding for? I’m so lost

BobKerman3999,

Because they are going to prop up this game if it is shit. Fake surprise when showing their own work? Wtf

Solarius,

why would one modder prop up a game lol

Zahille7,

Do you just want to be angry at something?

If you’ve played all the mainline Bethesda games until now, I’m pretty sure you’re not gonna be worried that this will flop. I haven’t played it yet myself, but I’m only seeing great things about the game so far.

BobKerman3999,

No, I’m just upset that sponsorships are not disclosed

That makes a lot of sense.

CaptainEffort, do xbox w Bethesda hired the creator of a Skyrim clutter mod to design Starfield's "lighting and clutter"

Elianora never made a “Skyrim Clutter mod”, but she did make dozens of immaculate player homes that have extremely well thought out clutter within them.

This isn’t a huge surprise either, as she worked with Bethesda in making some of the CC content.

I cannot extract a silver lining out of this announcement no matter how hard I try. This is like Activision announcing that the next Call of Duty will be made by Mojang, they’re just so fucking grossly incompatible with each other that it makes absolutely zero sense.

i really hope the dlc fixes some of the issues with performance etc. this was the first pokemon game i really didn’t enjoy so i’m very on the fence about spending any more money on it.

People have been saying this since the first updates rolled out days after launch. Performance is never going to improve, at this point.

Duchess,

Yeah, that’s fair. I just wish there wasn’t such pressure on the devs to push out new products when they’re clearly not ready

I was bewildered by this myself. The developers who were famous for their walking simulators but who fired all their staff a few years back (keeping the studio founders) have taken over a project where the original developers were dismissed amid some damaging-sounding rumours and budget overruns. Hardsuit Labs presumably had completed most of the initial writing work and concept art - their ‘tech demos’ looked pretty convincing, even though that kind of thing is very carefully managed - but must have still been a long way from anything that could be released. A mystery. See how it goes - still a year away, anyway.

CharlesReed,

The developers who were famous for their walking simulators

I was just thinking, aren't these the guys who made Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs? So I had to go look up what else they've done that maybe I've played, and uh... Dear Esther. Which imo is the epitome a walking sim, even more so than A Machine, because at least that had some light puzzle solving and avoiding enemies. Dear Esther is just literally walking around and listening to dialogue. That's it.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good walking sim whenever I'm in the right mood, but based on the new trailer we just got, Bloodlines 2 is not that lol. Hell, the first one isn't even that.
Maybe they want to start branching out? If that's the case, I'm not sure that doing it with a game that a lot of people have been waiting for and that has already had... productions issues is not the best approach. Maybe I'll be proved wrong. I kinda hope so, considering how much I love the first Bloodlines.

Lainesc,

I can’t find it now, but I remember them saying a few years ago that they wanted to branch out more, but were having a hard time finding publishers that would back them for anything that wasn’t a walking sim.

It looks like they finally found someone willing to take a chance with them.

I didn’t even realize this was a thing ( or forgot it was a thing ) until Starfield.

What forshame. Feels really disgusting, for anygame that has a story.

They look cute, though Fezandipiti sounds like a medication or illness.

Fezandipiti, used to treat Fezandipitis

Of course, they do. Pay more to beta test before anyone else.

Fiivemacs,

Better then free, they are being paid to have their work tested.

I didn’t give in for Starfield. But I’m tempted. I did instead spend a bunch of money on a new video card.

geosoco,

Same. I’ve only bought one game at launch in the last 10 years i think. Not worth it.

zabby, do games w Staying up and "bingeing" Starfield "literally saved" this player's life

Oh my goodness, the exact same thing happened with me and Guild Wars 2!!! 😱

I was a teenager at the time and my family burned logs to keep the house warm in winter. My Dad upgraded the smoke detectors so that they were all linked. In other words, if one alarm went off in the basement (where the wood burner was) then every detector in the house would go off.

This sounds great in theory, but in reality it turns out that the detectors would go off on a near weekly basis. Whenever someone tossed logs in the burner and smoke escaped. We got desensitized to the beeping and it became second nature to just cancel the alarm when it happened.

Fast forward to the closed beta for Guild Wars 2 and I was up late, trying to play every possible minute that I could before the weekend was over. My door was closed, headphones on, and I was REALLY immersed.

The smoke detector started beeping. And it kept beeping over and over and over. Normally, at this point my parents would’ve cancelled it. That kind of struck me as odd, so I opened my door.

Ruh roah, raggy.

A wall of smoke was on the other side of the door. And the smell was NOTHING like the usual wood burner smell. It really hurt to breathe and my eyes were not having a good time either.

After shaking my Dad awake, we called the fire department, got all the animals out, and nobody got hurt. The damage was serious, but the entire house didn’t go up. The upstairs needed rebuilt and there was a fair bit of smoke damage.

I don’t want to think about what would’ve happened if I wasn’t up playing that closed beta 😅

The shift in mobile gaming in how developers / publishers could nickel & dime different features seeped into paid content. The separation was most of these games were free-to-play or at least ad-supported.

Now, it’s just a double-dip. The filthy casuals will wait while the dedicated fans will pony up their wallets if they want a better product. The one that infuriates me most is exclusive or pre-order content that becomes available to everyone a few months after launch.
