I find it unfortunate it’s not on PC. But that developer seems to not like PC’s.

astrsk, do games w Physical or Digital?
@astrsk@kbin.social avatar

Depends on the system’s media for me.

Cartridge-based? Physical for all 1st and 2nd party titles, digital for indie/3rd party unless I really enjoyed it or it had a worthwhile collectors edition. I’d say about an 80-20 split due to some games not releasing physical, and some that do but I also get digital for convenience.

Disc based? Probably just digital these days. Exceptions for worthwhile collectors editions and special runs (indie games etc.) Roughly 10-90 split because PC/steam is in this list and despite owning a launch day disc model PS5, I just ordered my first physical copy of a game (Baulder’s Gate 3 collectors) and the other collectors edition I bought was God of War Ragnarok which came with everything except a game disc (steel game case, digital code… sigh).

I think the last console game I bought was Metroid Dread, but I leaned physical for those as well, because their digital storefronts are a single point of failure. I've witnessed first hand a friend of mine getting frustrated with a now-sunset Xbox 360 store, a problem I could see coming a mile away even when I was in high school when the console launched. On PC, if Steam disappeared tomorrow, I could pirate my entire library. If GOG gives me a week of lead time on their store going away, I could legitimately back up those games.

Digital is more convenient. I have shelves of old games and consoles that I'm working on culling rather than expanding, especially as someone who tends to move to a new apartment every couple of years. Physical often tends to be a false sense of security in the modern age of day 1 patches and other kinds of server dependency. DRM-free is actually what you want, unless you really, really enjoy the tangible aspect of the game. Outside of nostalgia, I don't think it matters to me.

Caliper, do gaming w Let's discuss the 3ds family?

Bought a New 2DS XL for my oldest son when he turned 9. Bought a second one for myself not long after. They were cheap secondhand, so it was a quick decision. I love the games and I used to play on my commute. Now it is mostly played on by my youngest. We’ve got a shit load of games, most also bought secondhand. And they still play on them anytime we go for a long drive! It is definitely the best system I’ve owned. Massive bang for buck.

sleepybisexual,

Yea, the ds family is good

Apparently they also hackable :3

Not seen it anywhere else in this thread so…Colosseum: Road to Freedom
Roman slave fights in the arena to gain fame, fortune and, most importantly, freedom. Super good. Highly recommend 👌 👍 👏 🙌

There are a bunch of good suggestions already, so I’m gonna say some of my favorites:

  • Def jam: Fight for NY (really good 4-player fighting game)
  • Digimon Rumble Arena 2 (another 4-player fighting game, similar to Smash Bros)
  • D.O.N. (Dragonball, One Piece and Naruto 4-player fighting game, might have to pirate it to play with the english language patch)
  • Digimon World 4 (4-player hack’n’slash with rpg elements)
  • Radiata Stories (Single player action rpg, with 175 recruitable NPCs)
  • The Sims 2 (2-player)
  • Final Fantasy X, X-2 ans XII (famous jrpgs)
  • Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition (single player hack’n’slash)

Superman 64

You wouldn’t want to return to it after completing it lol

Rinn, do gaming w Let's discuss the 3ds family?

I had a N3DS, it was my first handheld and it was great! Really good selection of games. My most played were Monster Hunter Generations (which was my introduction to the series) and Fantasy Life - one of my absolute faves, a charming and colorful fantasy adventure with life sim elements. The story is a bit meh but the gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying and there’s nothing else quite like it. I’ve been replaying it on an emulator (rip Yuzu/Citra devs) recently and it’s still a blast.

Death stranding, a space for the unbound, celeste, Dust: an elysian tale, pokemon mystery dungeon Red rescue team (GBA) or blue rescue team (DS). Baldur’s gate 3 has some personal stories that are extremely wonderful. Bad things happening to good people, and things largely working out depending on how you play. Battlefield One’s campaign had some stories that made my heart ache for characters. People laying down their lives so that their friends can get back to their families.

Detroit: become human was SO close if not for a hamfisted twist. Inscryption isn’t as emotional but packs a wildly interesting story.

The Last Guardian

Underwaterbob,

Can’t recommend that one without also recommending Ico and especially Shadow of the Colossus before it. Shadow of the Colossus may be my favorite gave ever even. It’s so good. I really wish Sony would release all three on PC or something. I still haven’t played The Last Guardian because the last Playstation I owned was a PS3.
