smeg, do gaming w There is Only One Level Left to be Beaten in Super Mario Maker 1

Nintendo announces all online functionality will cease for 3ds and Wii U titles in early April (specifically April 8th 2024)

Oh shit, I didn’t realise this deadline was so close! Should I be firing Mario Maker up now and downloading every level I can while I have the chance? Though I think I stopped playing it when I realised most of the levels were just words being spelled out in blocks with no actual gameplay…

Most recently, KeyWe and modded Keep Talking with friends. Solo, still ol’ reliable slay the spire.

I have a plan to teach someone how to play schnapsen and crazyhouse chess tomorrow so that’s exciting.

Just finished Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley This game is alright. Great visual style. Passable gameplay and nice music. Writing is quite simplistic but endearing with nostalgia. This is definitely a love letter to Moomin franchise. I loved to see Snufkin, Mini My and The Groke on screen with some cute cutscenes. I wouldn’t recommend this game if you aren’t already invested into Moomins. I enjoyed my time meeting beloved characters once again.

I’m considering Bomb Rush Cyberfunk but I reckon it has a decent chance of ending up in Humble Choice so I may wait for that. Definitely a game I will enjoy, but I have a big backlog so eh.

  • Astrominer
  • Minit

I have a backlog, and I have a rule that I don’t buy a game unless it is USD$6.08 or less in my local currency.

Jubei_K_08,

Astrominer, a game about building a gaming economy in an asteroid field, shows as Coming Soon. You mean Astroneer?

Isoprenoid,
Jubei_K_08,

Thanks!

I’m on the fence about Arizona Sunshine 2. I understand it’s quite short relative to its price. I might wait for a deeper discount.

ATDA, do games w What are the best Samurai period games?

Way of the Samurai.

Not sure about the recent releases but the old games emulate well. Gameplay is super fun even if the writing is very anime influenced.

I can log on to anybody’s computer in the world, install Steam, and have full access to my entire game library.

I can make almost anybody I know (with limits) a “family member” and share my library.

I can stream my games from my computer to my phone.

My steam deck lets me play my entire library anywhere.

I see no personal benefit to using physical media anymore.

I guess a disclaimer would be that I trust Valve but you truthfully, I don’t trust all game companies/vendors.

MilliaStrange, do gaming w What are some good PSP games?

Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, which is a nice 3D remake of one of the better classic vanias, Rondo of Blood. An updated version of Symphony of the Night is an unlockable in the game (as well as the original Rondo) so this is a great way to experience both games if you haven’t already.

Coelacanth, do gaming w I hate the term "Boomer Shooter"

It’s so curious, I swear I heard “boomer shooter” used to refer to another type of FPS… But then again I guess the definition has changed. What term do people use nowadays for slow FPSes that are more tactical, rather than twitch-reflex reliant, like ARMA?

bermuda,

Those are tactical shooters. If it’s a simulator like ARMA then the term “milsim” (military simulator) is also used. Good example of a non-ARMA tactical shooter would be Ready or Not, Squad, Insurgency, or S.W.A.T

Coelacanth,
@Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

Makes sense. And I have heard those terms before. I guess i just need to update my internal definition. All this time I thought boomer shooter meant “slow FPS for old folks who can’t keep up in Valorant anymore”. Which is a group I probably belong to myself, to be honest.

bermuda,

Oh no boomer shooter means very fast FPS, it just has old-school mechanics like health packs, a large loadout, arena-style gameplay, stuff like that. Things that were considered outdated when games like Battlefield and COD rolled around in the mid 2000s. Like you’re not supposed to take cover in DOOM, but you are in Battlefield.

Dangdoggo, do gaming w I hate the term "Boomer Shooter"

If it helps try thinking of it as a "boomer shooter" because of the proliferation of rockets and rocket physics in classic games like Unreal and Quake
