Yes if the game is more frustrating than fun without it. The most notable example is probably Elden Ring, which I cheated the whole way through.

A PS5 Pro, which is more powerful, is $750. If it’s not below that it’s too damn much.

Definitely with you on controller rebinding! Now that I’m an old man I also absolutely hate how damn tiny the text is when playing games on a TV. Gamers are getting old, we don’t all have young eyes or sit in front of a monitor to play games!

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

I had an Ouya. I was hoping to use it as an open platform to play games on the TV, but yeah, that didn’t happen. The Raspberry Pi fulfilled that need until I got a Steam Deck.

Uh oh: Ubisoft postpones its quarterly financial report at the last minute and halts stock trading (www.pcgamer.com)

Just minutes before it was set to deliver its financial results for the first half of its 2025-26 fiscal year, Ubisoft mashed the brakes on the whole thing, postponing the release of its results to an unspecified future date. The company also requested that European exchange Euronext halt trading of the company’s shares and...

SMW, easily. Being able to freely use the map to play levels at will and unlock secrets still hasn’t been matched by any other 2D Mario game.

Graphics and music-wise, it’s fair to use the SNES version as a comparison, so that’s mostly a wash.

Self hosting will never be mainstream. Or maybe?

No way, because posting on already-established corpo platforms is much less of a barrier to entry.

Which spot were you stuck on?

samus12345,

I don’t remember that part! Been a long, long time. Wish it had been remastered like Day of the Tentacle was.

samus12345,

I remember that part! Typical point n click moon logic.

What are some jokes that didn’t age well? That’s always a thing when playing 90s comedy games. Probably not many games worse than the Leisure Suit Larry series!

I’ll have to watch a playthrough again to jog my memory.

For me, good story and/or fun gameplay is the accomplishment, whether it’s difficult or not. If it’s too difficult, I just won’t bother. I don’t have time for that.

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

I absolutely hate parry systems and cheated my way through it, although I lost interest once something spoilery happened to the main character you’ve been playing as.

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

I started gaming in 1983. (with Pac-Man!) I played games then because I enjoyed the gameplay and only suffered through the difficulty of the NES era because was either that or you didn’t play at all. I prefer easier games now.

That said, I think the hardest thing I’ve done in the modern era is this level in Rayman Legends. I still can’t believe I actually had the patience to do it over and over until I beat it.

Both Mario RPG and the M&L games have timing systems I don’t mind. They have pretty generous windows and don’t punish you too severely if you miss them. E33 was brutal on both fronts.

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

I “cheat” in M&L by pressing A+B or Y+X at the same time so whichever brother the attack is going to will jump/hit it.

I didn’t mind Undertale and Deltarune’s systems, either. They usually utilized full movement rather than “press the button RIGHT NOW!!!”

Linux gamers on Steam finally cross over the 3% mark (www.gamingonlinux.com)

Free Windows 10 support ended for most people this past month, and the trend line of Linux usage has been quite clear leading up to this, as people prepared for the inevitable. An increase in Linux usage is also correlated to a drop in Chinese players, which did happen this month a little bit, but Linux usage is also trending up...

Ironically, some games run better on the Steam Deck through Proton rather than the native Linux version.

Pidgey used NINTENDO’S LAWYERS! It’s super effective!

It’s nice to see the LCD Deck get discounted, if only to relive the old days when consoles got cheaper instead of more expensive as time went on. I almost wanted to buy another one out of principle, even though I don’t have use for more than one.

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

Where’s the “Fuck off” option??

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

I wish Steam would make another Steam Machine with Steam OS.

It’s rumored they’re working on one codenamed Fremont.

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

Coming for the sale and leaving having bought a game not on sale is part of why sales exist!

samus12345,
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’d say the console is the more plausible rumor, but maybe someday we’ll see!

I don’t know that it “changed my life,” but DAMN Yakuza 0’s ending hit hard.

Definitely a must-play for any fan of 0! Even though Majima never got his happy ending, it still brings some satisfying closure.

PC won’t have the tantalising PS5 haptics that immerse you into the game

It will if you have a PS5 controller. They don’t just work on PS5.
