Probably Minecraft with my 5 year old. Yesterday and today. Been loving it.

Thanks for this! I haven’t played it since it came out. I’ll look forward to having a go.

Maize. I had no expectations going into that game except what the brief Steam summary gave me, and I was not disappointed.

Bucket Detective. This was recommended to me by someone who said "this is the weirdest game you'll ever play", and I think they were right.

sub_, do gaming w What's the funniest game you've played?

Can’t say which one is the funniest (probably jazzpunk), but here are some that I found funny:

  • Jazz Punk
  • Procession to Cavalry
  • Thousand Arms
  • Metal Wolf Chaos
  • Frog Fractions
  • Monkey Island
HipPriest, (edited ) do gaming w What's the funniest game you've played?

Someone else mentioned Procession to Calvary - an adventure game set in a cut and paste world of renaissance art with a very surreal plot and sense of humour. Pythonesque.

There Is No Game is pretty hilarious, the voice acting always makes me crack up.

Agatha Knife is a funny point and click adventure game where you're a 7 year old girl who's a butcher and needs to set up her own religion sacrificing pigs in the basement for... Reasons.

maltasoron, (edited )

The creator of Procession to Calvary has two more games out which are equally funny, The Preposterous Awesomeness of Everything and Four Last Things.

I wish I could forget all about Day of the Tentacle, so I could play it all over again and rediscover everything.

That whole ordeal with Red Dead Uncle Fred is hilarious, especially after IRS arrests him and restrains him with literal red tape.

kmkz_ninja, do gaming w hardware: use TV as a monitor?

Have been gaming in front of a 44-inch 4k TV for years (sorry eyes) with no issues. The biggest thing is making sure the TV has some sort of low latency or “gaming” mode that will turn off the TVs post-processing. WITHOUT THAT, the other commenters are right that the input lag may be unplayable.

Flatworm7591, do piracy w This file has 16 detections, is it safe to install it?

There’s a decent write up on how Android ‘dropper’ malware functions here. TLDR - while the APK may be clean, it tries to trick you into installing a malware infected APK later in the install process or during a fake update.

Aresff,

Thanks. That dropper function looks dangerous. However, the first dropper campaign spotted by Threat Fabric at the beginning of October 2022, and this file was uploaded at 2020, so even if it’s indeed malicious, it’s probably a different bad guy I guess.

thejevans, do gaming w What would you be interested in out of a modern games focused journalism outlet?
@thejevans@lemmy.ml avatar

I think that 404 Media is a great example of a recent independent media organization that has a great user experience and a monetization strategy that doesn’t make me feel gross. A lot of their pull is the excellent journalism and writing, and the fact that the journalists that started it are respected and have a decent following. I don’t know how feasible this type of setup would be without that head start.

SolOrion, do gaming w hardware: use TV as a monitor?

You can absolutely use a TV, even for FPS games. If the response time is terrible it might impact FPS games, but every other genre should be fine even if the input lag is significant.

I used a TV myself for 2-3 years at one point. I was playing Destiny 2, an FPS game, when it finally died on me lol.

MalReynolds, do piracy w please help debug my qbittorrent socks5 setup with nordvpn
@MalReynolds@slrpnk.net avatar

Consider containers. Gluetun makes it easy to establish a wireguard connection to Nord, then use qbittorrent docker on the network that glutun provides, same for all your *arrs. Safer, faster, self-contained. Connect your web-browser to gluetun’s proxy. Just sayin’

As a fellow 1070 8GB user, I am in the same boat myself.

I believe you should wait for the newest 7700 XT and 7800 XT GPUs from AMD. One possible side-effect would be that Nvidia would be forced to cut prices for 4060 and 4070.

Then you can go ahead and make the best possible choice as per your budget.

My advice would be to save some more money, wait for some time and build a new system.

Note: The newest GPUs use the PCIE 4.0 interface. Not really sure if your motherboard is able to handle that.

Turun,

A new GPU should be able to work on older interfaces, right? Sure, you get half the bandwidth to the CPU, but is that even the limit?

TheRoarer,

PCIE scaling is in low single digit percentages, so it isn’t an issue unless you are min/maxing.

I’ve started playing Ghostrunner. I’ve really missed level based games, and the gameplay is just thrilling. It’s really been a blast trying to go faster than my friends, as well as collecting all the items in some really well designed levels

Videocard Benchmark here:

www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Figure out your price point, then get the highest scoring card in that range.

Say for the sake of argument you don’t want to spend more than $300 on a GPU:

GeForce RTX 3060 TI at $302 and change, not bad.

Radeon RX 6750 XT out performs it, but it’s also $360 instead of 302. So are the extra 500 points on their performance scale worth $60? Probably not.

Prices are more of a guide, search around, you might find them for less. Just using the shopping tab at Google, I found the GeForce for $250 at NewEgg.

lemmyvore,

Here’s one more GPU comparison chart:

Blackmist, do gaming w Steam in-house remote play (link)

The controllers connect to the Shield. You can also connect keyboard and mouse to it.

I find Steam Link to be slow and low framerate though. Sunshine running on the PC and Moonlight running on the Shield seen to do the trick. I also disabled the image sharpening on the Shield because it looks really odd.

Nvidia GameStream being disabled now is a really fucking shitty thing for them to do. Sunshine lacks the ability to change the PC resolution to match the streaming resolution.
