I picked up a Gamesir x2 recently and it really ticks all but one of the boxes for me. It’s a liiiiittle too big to carry around in a pocket, and a liiiittle too small if you’ve got bigger hands, but its still great at what it does.

olicvb,
@olicvb@lemmy.ca avatar

+1 for the Gamesir, completely dropped sitting at my desktop. Now my main screen is for shows and the secondary is for game streaming through SteamLink.

I grabbed the X2 because it seemed the most compact without sacrificing triggers or joysticks, but I now think the G8 would have been a better choice with the larger grip

HipsterTenZero,
@HipsterTenZero@dormi.zone avatar

Yeah I’m thinking the same. The X2 was my pick because I wanted something the size of a DS, but its just a little too big for that. I’ll be picking up a g8 to replace it later since it seems like a better fit for using around the house.

I can't say I've ever really liked a controller, so I never experimented with fancy ones. The one that was the most fine was the ps controller. the joycon was ok until drift kicked in. The xbox controller made my hands hurt after too long. I think if I'd had more xbox games back then I would have gotten more into controllers to find one for my tiny hands. I mostly prefer a keyboard.

To be specific, the Xbox One Elite controller. I really liked the Series 2 but it fell apart on me. I never had much issue with the original. I’m a glutton for punishment though, and I’d get another Series 2. I don’t mind working on them so it isn’t the biggest deal

I really love the Switch Pro controller, but I wish it had analog triggers. I also have love for the GameCube controller. I am at home with the N64 controller, but I can’t say it’s a favorite

It’s probably because I have bias, but I’ve never cared for any of Sony’s offerings. Something about the sticks doesn’t feel right with both being at the bottom

MudMan,

My series 1 ended up developing a pretty bad flaw with the input chip and is dead-dead. It also developed a sticky X button right away, which I could repair but went back to not being perfect. The Series 2 has been more reliable, but I also use it less.

Logitech RumblePad 2 for the PC.

Basically a knockoff clone of the PlayStation 2 controller for the PC, from around 2008 or so I think.

Still mostly works somehow, except the mode swap button. I don’t even need that button anyways.

AceFuzzLord, do games w Does AAAA just mean awful triple A games now?

I don’t know, but if I ever create a meme game (assuming I ever got the opportunity), I’m definitely gonna market it as a AAAAAAAAAA game that was so good we had to downgrade it to a meme because your face would melt just by looking at the title screen due to how high quality it was.

toynbee,

That must be how they named this.

carl_dungeon, do games w How to decide what kind of controller one should purchase?

Ps5 controller is Bluetooth, works for me without any special drivers. Has native support in some games for the haptic triggers and touch pad. It’s a fantastic general purpose unit. The Nintendo switch classic NES controllers are awesome for retro emulation too- also Bluetooth. They make NES/SNES/N64 variants- but really the ps5 will handle all those use cases and feel just fine for any modern gaming.

Suggestion: add other exercises. I can’t walk much because the impact is bad for my mangled knee, but biking is fine.

SaveMotherEarthEDF, do games w rdr2 question

While others have answered your question, I just wanted to go on a tangent and add to some of the same frustration that you felt.

I hate hand holding in this game. I feel like missions trap you into playing a certain way. You have to treat the missions like they are an interactive movie experience. But otherwise, the open world exploration is fun.

For future, If you really like freedom but also need some goals and story and not just a sandbox, I would recommend trying either legend of zelda botw or totk. I think you can emulate BOTW on steamdeck.

If you can take some punishment then Elden Ring is also a great choice.

I hope that you can enjoy this game though.

I’m personally looking for a Hall effect joystick, ps5 style layout, wireless capable, plays nice with Linux game controller. Seems like I’ve seen flydigi as a potential option, and maybe some 8bitdo ones. Maybe scuf?

One major issue I’ve had is my ps4 controller doesn’t have multipoint, meaning it will only Bluetooth pair to a single device at a time. Wanna use it on your phone? Gotta pair it. Wanna use it again on your pc — yep, gotta pair it again. Reaaaaallly annoying.

ipkpjersi,

My PS4 controller doesn’t even pair to my Linux desktop, I’ve tried just about everything you can think of but it only works via USB cable. My Xbox 360 controller, Xbox One X, and Xbox Series X controllers all work on Linux just fine and work better on Linux than they would on Windows thanks to xpadneo.

If only they would make posts that aren’t yes or no questions, or that they could easily Google. Maybe even keep all their bull shit to one post since it is all about the same fucking games over and over

My current focus:

  • hall effect sensor to avoid stick drift
  • i prefer the xbox layout for sticks
  • abxy button layout, because not all pc games support ps buttons
  • cabel, cuz lighter and no sudden loss of input
giantofthenorth, do games w How to decide what kind of controller one should purchase?

Never buy a PS4/5 or switch controller they are all overpriced garbage they intentionally make for ewaste landfills in 2-4 years.

I really like my gulikit king Kong 2 and they made a elite controller style one with the 3rd version so I’d recommend that. They’re hall effect joysticks which feel real nice and are easy to repair and customize.

Summzashi,

Using my dual shock 4 controller since 2013 on PC but sure buddy

giantofthenorth,

You’re right, Im attacking you directly

Summzashi,

Bullshit is bullshit.

Still bullshit

Unrelated to the actual question but related to the title: Check if the controller fits your hand size. For example, I don’t like the Xbox controller and much prefer the ps4 ones since they fit in my small hands better.

nickiwest,

This.

My husband swears by his Nintendo Pro controller, but he also has historically liked Xbox controllers.

Those options are too large to be comfortable in my hands, so I tend to go for undocked JoyCons and PlayStation controllers because they are better fits for me.

I use a PS4 controller for PC gaming. I definitely wouldn’t buy a specific controller for my PC without actually holding a sample in my hands first.

@BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz avatar

Pro tip: Buy silicone ergonomic grips for your joycons, they’ll stay small but your palms will be able to rest on them instead of floating in the air

Have some experience with Xbox controllers and steam controller

First official Xbox One X controller is absolute shit via bluetooth. Proprietary dongle works well, as long as its on windows - getting it to work under linux is a pain.

As far as compatibility goes Xbox 360 Dualshock with 2,4ghz wireless dongle is the best - dongle identifies as wired controller, it works correctly with everything.

Steam controller works with everything except ergonomics is IMO garbage. Dualshock rules in this area

And don't even think about connecting anything via bluetooth to android - bluetooth drivers are broken since android 10, causing massive input lag. Use either wired, or Xbox 360 2,4ghz wireless dongle controller

Steam Controller's ergo is great for me. It's absolutely fucking weird compared to anything else, but I like larger grips on controllers since I have long fingers.
