Good.

Take as much advantage of money-spenders as possible. Show them who’s in charge.

So it’s just a fancy physical code? You don’t have to write it in the shop… Wow

BreakerSwitch,

Worse. You need to use the card to play the game, even though it’s just a key to unlock downloading the game. Worst of both worlds.

Me: pencils in SM64

Teacher: “I have nothing left to teach you.“

NewNewAugustEast,

That funny. I love smb3 and smw. My girlfriend and I beat them both doing every thing loved them. And SMB 2 and yoshis island.

Then we tried Mario 64 when it came out. So boring we quit. Hated the design, the repetitiveness, the movement, the sound, Mario as well.

That was the end of Mario as far as we were concerned.

I find it strange to this day that it is so well liked.

ChicoSuave, do gaming w Don't make me choose!

Between those two? SMW. Of all Mario games? That’s a much more interesting question.

The_Picard_Maneuver,

Personal preference, but if you asked me "of all Mario games", it would also come down to a decision between these two.

Soggy,

I realize it’s comparing apples to oranges but Paper Mario and Odyssey have to be in the discussion.

king_comrade,

Is no one in this thread going to mention Sunshine? Clearly the best SM game without a doubt

Soggy,

Sunshine had some cool ideas and introduced Bowser Jr. but I wouldn’t put it over Galaxy or Odyssey as a 3D platformer.

king_comrade,

Why would you rank those two as better platformers? I reckon FLUDD introduced a lot of fun ways to solve the level puzzles and the hub world is the best designed next to Mario 64.

Soggy,

FLUDD is pretty well done but, pun unintended, they still hadn’t nailed the fluidity of movement that the later titles have. (The existence of a hub world is pretty neutral for me, they mostly serve as a way to soft tutorial the controls.)

king_comrade,

I think you’re right with odyssey, that game played beautifully but galaxy (the first one at least) felt as jank if not more jank than sunshine. The wiimote never felt good for platforming and the switch adaptation also struggles with awkward camera angles.

Soggy,

Totally fair! Personally I found the gravity stuff more interesting than the FLUDD mechanics but they definitely feel different and I can’t dispute the camera struggle.

king_comrade,

Bro I love Mario games hey, think it’s time for yet another replay.

Aggravationstation,

For this, SMW. Of all time? SMB2 on Gameboy.

8bitdos work great. I got several, most happy with the Pro 2. The only downside is that they stopped supporting firmware updates in Linux, so you have to use a VM with Windows and USB passthrough to update the pad.

Great game! It’s the first one I got via… hotline… way before torrent…

schnurrito, do games w Gamepad for Linux Gaming?

I don’t think there’s much difference. Any standard USB gamepad should work equally fine. I find the Xbox layout more comfortable than the PlayStation one, but this may be different for different people.

Suck_on_my_Presence, do games w Gamepad for Linux Gaming?

I’ve been using an Xbox pro controller for a while on my Mint setup, just plugged in. I can’t get the Bluetooth to connect and I assume it’s because I need to update the drivers for the controller via Windows. 🤷 Whatever.

But my controller bit the dust somewhat recently, so I grabbed a PS5 controller this time and it works right out of the box, no issue. I haven’t tried the Bluetooth to be honest because I’m so used to playing plugged in, but meh. The little trackpad thing on the PlayStation controller also works well as a mouse trackpad when I’m far away from my PC (like if I have it running in the living room instead of at a desk).

ArsonButCute,

Re: xbox

You need drivers for it.

wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gamepad#Xbox_Wireless_Co…

While the package names and how to install them will be different since you’re on mint, this section in the Arch wiki discusses your options for Xbox controllers.

warmaster, do games w Gamepad for Linux Gaming?

Xbox controllers need a Windows PC to update their drivers.

rumschlumpel,

And how often do you need to update a controller’s drivers?

warmaster,

It could be right out of the box. Happened to me with 2 controllers.

rumschlumpel, (edited )

Refund that trash.

I never updated my controller even once, and it never had any software issues whatsoever.

Nibodhika,

Need is a very strong word, I’ve had Xbox controllers for years that have never seen a Windows PC.

prole,

Yeah I dunno about all that.

etchinghillside, do games w Gamepad for Linux Gaming?

Xbox controller is the right choice.

It’s weird thinking these all started out so bland (for a lack of a better words). It feels natural now for all the little paragraphs i include to be there, but looking back i really didn’t start doing that until around day 50. I guess i kind of acclimated too it
