Asafum,

Same. I’m not buying an entire console just for Zelda.

Same with Sony. I’m not buying a PS5 for final fantasy.

Fuck you Nintendo. Fuck you Sony.

Asafum,

You’re not going to have any luck with the general population. They’ve been conditioned to hate star citizen by all these lazy asshole “journalists” that can’t be bothered to look into what they’re writing about past the big dollar sign…

What really pisses me off though is we get the whole “stupid AAA publishers rushed out XYZ game to meet a quarterly financial report!” with every single game that comes out. “Why didn’t they just give it time to cook! Release when it’s ready!

Now we have star citizen almost entirely backed by users with no date pressure as there is no publishing company forcing their hand and they’re building what will be the most amazing space MMO we’re likely to ever see because they have the time and the resources, but instead of awe we get this trash “ItS nOt ReAdY yEt!? MiLlIoNs Of DoLlArS!” article over and over and over again…

If they did actually follow the project they’d know that SQ42 is likely to be released next year and star citizen is already talking about release 1.0…

Bahh bahh bahh goes the media sheep.

Asafum,

Well I can say for sure 100% vulkan will not get you any improvements at the moment especially as multi threading isn’t enabled yet, but with dx11 I’ve been hitting 60fps+ when I never did before this last patch. It’s been very smooth as far as my PC performance. Server performance will suck until hopefully later this year after server meshing is enabled and the initial jank is worked out.

Asafum,

What you mentioned is actually a comment I just made, but in favor of it. It’s just like konami and kojima, they gave him the boot because he’s a perfectionist and would take forever (but make an amazing game at the end). I see this as the same kind of thing. It’s taking forever but I have absolutely no doubt it will come soon™

Server meshing is the last major tech absolutely necessary for star citizen to run, for you to not be falling through floors, for box missions to work, etc. it’s all server issues caused by the fact that there’s only one server running everything for 100 people. Once server meshing is completed (early next year, a partial implementation is coming this summer) they can then move on to the already discussed “1.0 release.”

It’s actually coming much sooner than these ignorant lazy fools who write these articles would have you think. SQ42 is literally in the final polishing phases and during their big citizencon event this year they’re more than likely to announce its release date.

Asafum,

Thank you for that info! I have a really hard time spending a lot of money on myself so I’ve been putting off buying a vr set for years and years now, but if I was to get one it would be valve or pico because screws Facebook. Now I guess it’s just valve though…

Asafum,

Many of us preordered because at least for me day 1 performance issues don’t bother me. I loved dragons dogma and knew pretty much no matter what I wanted to play this.

Hiding that you have micro transactions until release day is just bullshit. I don’t know if that knowledge would have kept me from buying it though. Fast travel so far is pretty much non-existent as the ferry stones are super rare…

Asafum,

I get what you mean, but 99.9% of the time I’m buying it day one anyway so they get me with the dumb trinkets they throw at you for pre-ordering lol

Asafum,

If you’re going to play DD1 you can 100% fail side quests for going too far into the story before completing them, but don’t worry! Quest anxiety can ruin the game, there’s a new game plus if you really want to 100% it, but with DD2 coming this week I’d say just have fun with it.

From what I understand the only thing that connects DD1 & DD2 is that there’s a dragon. Lol

Star Citizen's first-person shooting is getting backpack-reloading, dynamic crosshairs, procedural recoil, and other improvements to 'bring the FPS combat to AAA standard' (www.pcgamer.com) angielski

Well, I mean, I would have launched it first (as an AAA game), but I’m no game developer. 🤷 And neither are they, from the looks of it. Good at perpetually raking in money for himself and his family, though!

Asafum,

Everything lol

It’s supposed to be a “space life” simulator so you can basically do just about anything

Asafum,

It’s not that they lied about it being complete, it’s that they entirely changed the scope of the game around 2014ish. If I remember correctly they even had a poll asking the community if they’d rather wait for planetary landing which was originally not meant to be in the game.

The original game was freelancer 2.0. you don’t land on a planet, you get into a cutscene and then appear in “New Atlantis” (yes I’m referring to star field, that’s not a city in SC) then as the story goes a developer made a tech demonstration they called “pupil to planet” showing the ability to continually zoom out from, you guessed it, looking at a pupil and going all the way to space with no loading screen so the had to essentially rework the game from the ground up. The story and a lot of the assets/voice work, etc was all done and “ready” for what that game would have been, but since the change they now had to rebuild a lot of the systems and make new systems for the way the game works now. That’s just squadron 42 (the single player game) star citizen the MMO has always been a bit on the “back burner” waiting for SQ42 to complete.

Now that we’re past all that, and just this last weekend SC had a majorly important tech test that seemed to go very well, they’re putting the last foundational pieces together so they can actually complete the game.

If anyone wants to say it took too long, I’m with you. I backed in 2014 and thought “damn, answer the call 2016? That’s a long ass time.” but to say it’s a scam? They’re the dumbest bunch of scammers in the entire history of scamming, Nigerian princes and all, if this is supposed to be a scam.

Asafum,

They didn’t, they just had a big announcement on October that SQ42 is “feature complete” and that it’s entering the polish phase which is why they moved devs back to SC. The remaining teams stay on SQ42 as so-called “strike teams” to polish and tweak tech.

Source: I follow the development way too much, send help lol

Asafum,

That’s the ultimate goal though. Just last night I flew from a mining outpost on a moon to find resources, scanned a whole bunch, pulled out of my ship with a mining buggy, mined a bunch, and then logged out from my bed within the ship. 0 combat. That’s a life they want to have possible and I’m all for it! lol

I think it’s just that fps stuff sells and all the COD kiddies wouldn’t look at SC at all if they didn’t focus on pewpew everything. Hell they have a cargo ship that has an advertisement of it shooting its guns …lol ffs why? It’s just marketing bs.

Asafum,

It really isn’t though. For one you don’t “have” to buy anything except a starter package for $45, everything else is optional if you want to support development. There also isn’t really a “win condition,” there’s PvP, but it’s not like ranked matches or whatever.

Also those people buying the largest most expensive ships are going to be in for a rude awakening. You will have costs for managing ships that currently isn’t in the game, but when it is I imagine the big spenders will bankrupt themselves (in game currency). There’s also the fact that ships larger than a one seater will need crew so you can’t really do much with them on your own.

The prices of ships can be absurd, but I think the people that buy them are just shooting themselves in the foot. I’ve been a backer since 2014 and aside from the starter ship I only bought one “extra” cheap shuttle because I love having access to it through any wipe even though I could earn it in game fairly quickly.

Asafum,

They literally said they were enjoying their customers tears.

  1. you’re a business, that’s just stupid to say.
  2. if you enjoy the suffering of other people you’re an absolute shit human being.
Asafum,

You can’t just lower the difficulty and progress though, mats are difficulty gated and with how absolutely gross and ridiculous the player base got (5 missions in a row getting kicked right at extraction) I only solo. :(

Asafum,

I couldn’t even finish it once and it took so long to get to where I stopped that I had important bits spoiled by random comments mentioning who dies and whatnot… It was really good for what I experienced but oh my God is it longggggggg.

Asafum,

That was my friend, he was so mad when they went 3d lol I didn’t mind as much, but I did like the old style.

Asafum,

I seriously doubt it, but I really hope they keep their word about no more ship sales after the official 1.0 release…

I can get behind the idea of “you want to support the game at high dollar amounts since you have that kind of cash, go for it.” But I can’t get behind “well people keep buying ships so let’s just keep selling super fucking expensive ships after we’re already “done” with the game.”

Elden Ring is getting a free-to-play mobile version with in-app purchases (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Action-RPG colossus Elden Ring is reportedly getting a free-to-play mobile adaptation with in-app purchases, which takes inspiration from miHoYo’s Genshin Impact. It’s being published by Tencent, who apparently acquired the licensing rights to Elden Ring back in 2022 and put a few dozen people to work on a prototype, even as...

Asafum,

Action RPG is a genre, it absolutely exists. It’s usually referred to as ARPG. Granblue Fantasy Relink could be considered an ARPG.

  • Asafum,

I played their previous game and was 100% sure this game was going to not be as great as advertised judging by their previous work.

I was 100% wrong. There is no connection between the quality of their previous game and this one. It’s been so freaking good for an EA game from these devs…

I’m actually convinced craftopia was a test bed for tech they needed to make this game and they just decided to sell it to fund future development. I definitely don’t mind because craftopia was fun for a while as well

    Asafum,

Sorry girl, but we’re all dudes in here so you’re kind of a creep for hanging out.

    ( I know what you meant :P )

    Asafum,

I think gamergate was actually pushed pretty far by political actors. I believe that scumbag Steve Bannon actually had a lot of involvement there because he wanted to propagndize to “rootless white men” and create an army of assholes to vote the way he wants. :/

    Asafum,

Capcom cuntrags get me with monster hunter every time… They do the same bullshit and I hate it.

    Asafum,

That’s the plan. They started with star citizen being the focus and then 2 years ago they pulled most of the staff to finish SQ42. Now that they’re in the “polishing phase” for sq42 they have started pulling people back to work on star citizen. Next year is going to be big for star citizen, very very important core tech being implemented and a deluge of content should come with the reallocation of workers to star citizen.

Source: I’m literally obsessed with star citizen/sq42 and know too much about it, send help. (My wallet is ok lol)

    Asafum,

It’s almost never worth discussing star citizen with haters, they just love to hate they don’t care about nuance. The hate is the bandwagon and they get to feel smarter than other people for being on the “right side.”

Nothing will change their mind until the game is declared 1.0 complete and then they’ll act like they never hated the game and they just wanted to wait for release.

    Asafum,

That and they release their financial reports every year…

The people in this thread are astoundingly hateful idiots that are just doing the groupthink thing to be part of a group that lets them feel “smarter than you.” It’s really disappointing to see this every time star citizen is mentioned, but I’ll just continue to enjoy it and then welcome all these people when it’s completed as they suddenly stop hating on it because it isn’t fashionable anymore.

    Asafum,

Honestly, I don’t see star citizen being “complete” for another 5-6 years lol next year will be awesome though if they can get server meshing implemented so they can try to nail down server performance. Right now it’s atrocious lol

    Asafum,

… That is how it works? You aren’t in beta until you’re feature and content complete, that’s the final stage for any game. Alpha is mostly content complete, but pretty much always feature complete.

The people who bastardized the usage of those words are the steam early access devs that call a game with 1 feature completed and almost no content an EA beta.

    Asafum,

That’s why I like what star citizen is doing. Fdev is not only beholden to shareholders that force out unfinished unpolished crap lacking in content, but they have 262828 other games to focus on so they took the lazy way out: get a minimally viable product out and then axe most of what braben talked about elite being in favor of small lore additions and an attempt at FPS stuff but again as lazily as possible.

I loved what elite wanted to be but I hate the greed and laziness. I’ll wait another 10 years for star citizen for it to be the best game ever because I know for a fact no one is ever going to attempt this again, it’s too expensive and no company will ever spend the money if they have a publisher.

These comments sections are almost laughable because we see the dichotomy of gamers “OmG TeN YeAr AlPhA!” but every other game it’s “OMG DELAY IT! ITS NOT FINISHED!”

    Asafum,

Because those people aren’t currently needed for the things that need to be done in sq42. They didn’t move everyone, it seems like a lot of the people they’ve spoken about moving over are art related and some tech people that aren’t needed for “polishing.”

Star citizen hit a point where they knew that large complicated tech was going to take time to implement and they couldn’t progress with content as the servers can’t handle it until the aforementioned tech is in so I think they made a reasonable decision to pull as many people over to SQ42 while the networking people and the core tech people worked on star citizen. Within the next few months we’re going to see if they can complete that core tech needed for the servers and that will allow for work to continue on as far as content/future systems.

All that said, Chris is absolutely horrendous at giving dates and I’m glad he stopped himself at citizencon this year. I would love to ask him what made him think 2020 was a reasonable estimate for anything lol

    Asafum,

    Spacebourne 2.

Not polished as it’s still in early access, not amazing graphics, but turning out to be a damn good game that most “AAA” developers wouldn’t even try to make, that was made by one guy (and now a small team of volunteers/contractors lol)

GTA 6’s Publisher Says Video Games Should Theoretically Be Priced At Dollars Per Hour (www.forbes.com) angielski

While Take-Two is riding high on their announcement that a GTA 6 trailer is coming, its CEO has some…interesting ideas on how much video games could cost, part of a contingent of executives that believe games are underpriced, given their cost, length or some combination of the two.

    Asafum,

Paradox and Bethesda/Microsoft can be first on that line.

Thanks for killing cities skylines and starfields potential over selfish bullshit… I’m not bitter, you’re bitter!

    Asafum,

The most aggravating thing for me personally as a PC gamer with an obsession with fidelity/graphics, is any Microsoft acquisition becomes focused on console first (to sell Xbox) which leaves every game as a neutered PC port that had to be made shitty enough to run on consoles… It’s very irritating.

    Asafum,

It’s Microsofts problem. Greedy fucking asshats bought Zenimax and therefore Bethesda and then said “Xbox exclusive only from now on.” (Xbox and PC can be treated as the same for Microsoft)

I have a PC, but I still can’t fucking stand this exclusive bullshit just to force people to buy their shit consoles. I loathe consoles for what they do to the potential games quality… so many sacrifices have to be made for shit hardware. :/

    Asafum,

You can land on moons in elite dangerous and if you have the expansion you can land on planets and moons with a light atmosphere and walk on foot.

If anyone complained about barren moons everywhere in starfield, just be warned elite has exactly zero interesting planets/moons in the literal billions of star systems it has. Everything is identical minus terrain colors and planetary rings. I loved elite for a while, but as far as exploration goes you really need to like scanning for the sake of scanning.

Starfield has a lot of stuff to explore, even if some of it is repetitive, but elite has maybe 10-15 interesting locations in the entire galaxy…

    Asafum,

The worst thing for elite was being made by frontier as they are now. Frontier now is just a tycoon simulator game generator, that’s all they care about. It’s like the FIFA of the tycoon games… spit out another one every year or two and who gives a rats ass about the stuff we already made or haven’t completed.

I loved what elite wanted to be, I hate what the bean counters did to it…

People shit on star citizen for their dev cycle, but elite took the worse route in my opinion: they released a minimally viable product and then intended on building it into something bigger, but got cheap/lazy and just accepted that what they have out is “good enough” so they dumped all the internal ship plans (braben spoke about boarding ships and piracy on foot in a ship, that kind of thing.) They dumped so much of the simulation stuff and just stuck with the BGS… it’s frustrating to see what could have been.

    Asafum,

There are plenty of moons/planets with life and interesting things to see, but yes there are a lot of “barren” moons and whatnot. The game tells you what to expect when you click on a given object. It will tell you if there are flora and fauna, what the temperature is, what minerals to expect, that kind of thing. From what I can tell there is almost always some sort of structures/bases on the planets as well.

    Asafum,

I really don’t get it to be honest, I’m left saying “damn I can’t wait for the weekend to play starfield longer because there’s so much to do” I don’t have enough time to do what I want in any given weeknight. I’ve been absolutely obsessed with starfield…

I got the early release and had a 4 day weekend, my play time was measured in days by Tuesday…

    Asafum,

The fact that they’re stealing it means it’s priced above its perceived value though.

    Asafum,

It looks like they’re doing what star citizen does with terrain generation where they hand-make tiles of landforms like mountains/cliffs, hills, etc, then the procedural generation takes over and stitches them all together in ways that “make sense.” So it’s not 100% hand crafted, but it’s also not “strange landform” NMS type nonsense that is entirely made from maths so you only seem to get rounded features. From what I’ve seen the environments look absolutely stunning! As someone who plays NMS too I can say they look 100x better than NMS.

    Asafum,

“They don’t actually care, they just want clicks and perceived relevancy when people repost their tweets to reddit”

Kinda sounds like real media to me then lol they all suck if they’re major corporate media.

    Asafum,

I mean we can have large games with detailed graphics and have employees treated well. We just need to accept 10+ year timelines for releases on big games which I’m ok with as long as we get quality results and the team is treated well.

I follow star citizen though so I could be the weird one here lol

    Asafum,

That’s a valid point. As long as there’s a publisher and investors we’re more than likely never going to see what I suggested, I kinda forgot star citizen is what it is because it’s funded by us.

It’s always the same crunch time for employees and rushed buggy products to feed the investors from “AAA” corps. Hope we can push for some positive change :/
