I stand by Persona being my favorite game series of all time (3 was my first one, but 4 is very good too) but those are available on Steam now so aren’t a great recommendation. but if you’re taking games that are in other places as well, I would say Disgaea (2 was my favorite) and Devil May Cry (3 was my favorite.)
I would echo what someone else said here about Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank. I know it wasn’t as popular as some of the other games in the series, but Ratchet: Deadlocked was the first game I beat multiple times in a row.
I also played a bit of Dark Cloud 2 and never got too far in, but heard a lot of good things.
I spent so much time in path of neo’s hacking game. Warriors still holds up, Final Fantasy X, Burnout 2/3, Tony Hawks underground, Okami and Shadow of the colossus. Those are a few off the top of my head.
Essential for some of the ones that have become too expensive 007 - Agent Under Fire for free mcboot
I have been overwhelming my brain with the progression structure of Minecraft Create Astral modpack and being annihilited by funny bugs for managed democracy.
I think it’s hilarious that people are still using DOS in 2024!
Sim City 2k was the first time I used Windows 95. One of the teachers in my sixth grade class had it on their computer, and they let us take turns playing it. It seemed really amazing to those of us who grew up with more primitive computers, like Apple IIs, even Macs, various x86 clones running DOS, or occasionally Windows 3.1.
My first PC in 1998 even had Sim City 2k “Network Edition” pre-installed. Played the shit outta that game!
There’s a lot of people who seem to expect games to keep getting updated. Growing up, if I bought a game (with my mom’s money of course), that game was complete, for better or worse.
Now kids seem get upset because I don’t want to add new characters to a shitty little game I released 5 years ago.
Forgive me if I am hijacking the thread, but does anyone have a recommendation for a chair that can accommodate a big dude? Like 330 lbs or so? I ordered one off Amazon, and it didn’t last 6 months.
Book of Hours. It’s a strange game, set in the Secret Histories, the same setting that Cultist Simulator had. Unlike Cultist Simulator, which was rather gruesome, Book of Hours is a relaxed game, about cleaning out and restoring an abandoned library, reading the occult books left in it, and drinking tea with your guests.
Potionomics. While it’s primarily a puzzle game about brewing potions, it has a lot of heartwarming dialogue.
Settlers 2 (the original DOS game, not the remake). The Settlers series was what brought up the term “Wuselfaktor” (No clue how to translate this. There is an English explanation of the term in this article.), and imho Settlers 2 is (by far) the best part of that series.
Kerbal Space Program. I can’t say why this game makes me happy, but it does. There’s something strangely relaxing about drifting through space in free-fall, seeing the planetary surface pass by at high speed below.
I’m currently hooked on Balatro like everyone else not in this thread. Took a long time to figure out the strategy (a two-and-a-half hour video helped a lot) before I won my first game (red deck). Won my second game (blue deck) on the next try. Next game (yellow deck), bombed out in ante 7, so I got close.
Geometry Survivor is pretty good but kinda simple. I’ll play for the trophies (survive 20 minutes) but will probably stop after that. I’m up to 10 minutes on the first sitting.
Working my way through NG+ on Nobody Saves the World. It almost feels easier so far but I’m only a few dungeons in. I guess the challenge will be in some of the later dungeons since I apparently have to clear them all to get to the final boss.
