Friend plays and loves it, but says wait a few months to buy. From what I’ve seen it’s a very strong looking beta, but lots of issues still need ironed out before it’s meaningfully playable. I was sold as soon as I heard there was a pve mode because open world constant potential pvp is too much stress, but still giving it a bit before I actually pick it up.
Had a drunken discussion about this last month. Basically there’s less than 10 decent game adaptations ever. I remember the first mortal kombat, first 2 resident evils, tomb raider… A few others. But yeah.
The drama with helldivers was because fascists saw the over the top campy depiction of fascism and unironically agreed with it. They had no idea they were the ones being lampooned. You should look at the reactions when they found out the devs were actually not fascists. They were distraught.
Specifically starship troopers, but you know what kickstarted that discussion again. Also a bunch of Twitter discourse. Reddit is generally left adjacent. You won’t find too much fash shit there.

Are you kidding? Slowly unloading your ship 200 pounds at a time and waiting for it to hopefully actually transfer to the pods is so fun. Not to mention they have absolutely no storage so you need a wall of them that you must then manually search to find anything. The best is when your cargo ship doesn’t fit on the landing pad so you have to carry it all yourself. Or you could build a convoluted network of shipping docks and either manually fuel them or create another convoluted network of shipping docks just to ship helium 3 to all the other shipping docks. Fuck I love loading screens.
Rage aside, the game itself was pretty fun for a run or two, but after that the shallowness really showed. Outposts suck ass though. I made shitty ones and figured I’d hit ng+ before actually caring about them, but I couldn’t make myself care. Benches go outside, I don’t give a shit.
God I’m just remembering how bad it is now. If the terrain isn’t perfectly level go fuck yourself, you can’t expand your hab. I build a fucking boardwalk with multiple levels and shopfronts in FO4, I had nearly full map coverage for artillery, I could attract settlers to live there and defend it. Now I just drop an extractor and power and fuck off.
I had a barrel outside caius’ house that I dumped all my extra stuff into. One barrel held everything. My current storage outpost has… At least 10 resource storage crates? And that’s still not enough. Plus actually hauling all that shit from mining outposts.
Replying to myself because I just can’t get over how shitty storage is. I can carry my armor, pack, like 8 guns, and way too many consumables, then stack another 130 or so on top of that. The giant ass storage crates as tall as me? 100, take it or leave it.
More that there’s only so much you can do with a looter shooter. Sure you can dress it up but you’re always endlessly shooting bad guys and occasionally collecting things and putting them places. They didn’t help themselves by sticking weapon crafting unlocks behind forcing you to do the daily bullshit over and over hoping to get 5 goddamn red borders to shred so you could continue to grind until you finally had a version that you cared about when in reality you probably already got the roll you wanted before you even unlocked the pattern.
OK yeah maybe destiny does suck now and I wish it was season of the forge again.
I did have a pretty bonkers warlock build that had a bunch of mods or gear that gave me rift regen, plus the boots that shoot orbs as people while I stand in a rift. I basically just used rift on cooldown and could have as many as 5 at once and spam healed the team. Also used rose to heal as well. Obviously not optimal, but I wasn’t about to spend the time collecting the obscure mods and stats that the spreadsheet wizards said I should have, only for the meta to change completely next season.
A small indy company like blizzard bungie can’t possibly afford to keep such a great composer on for long.

Nope. Nothing means anything until it releases. They had an hour of gameplay footage over 5 years ago. The only line these fucks are holding is the bottom line while they milk their players for hundreds of dollars whenever they release a fancy ship.

Can you buy the ships with in game currency? If not, why the fuck not? If so, let them grind for it. I promise the players have plenty of time before release.

And herein lies the problem. The pledge ships are supposedly just to fund early development and will not remain after launch because that would make the actual game pay to win. Right now it’s just “pay early to win” which is better somehow I guess? But the point is they’ve made over 800 million goddamn dollars from that. Why in the hell would they EVER release this game when they have people shoveling over hundreds and thousands for in game items? Blizzard, EA, Bethesda, ubisoft, every big dev is looking at this macrotransaction system and frothing with envy. If they release the game, that kills their golden goose and dumps new players into a game they’ll have to grind for months or years to achieve what early players achieved by opening their wallet. And the new players simply won’t.
So you’re almost correct about having a no incentive to release early, it’s a negative incentive to release. They’ll never do it. They keep expanding the scope and changing the roadmap and players keep coping and shoveling money into the fire while they play what is essentially a very good looking tech demo with no depth.

Holy shit. I stopped playing early because I was frustrated I couldn’t set my weapons groups like MW4, but if I can sit in the goddamn cockpit and use a flight control system in vr sign me the fuck up.
Game kind of lost me with the learning curve and feeling lost, but I can concur the vr felt amazing. Like just looking to the side to open ship menus is simple and feels futuristic as hell.
Yeah don’t care about motion controls, those are best left to standing games.
In MW4 you can assign any weapon to any group, so you can have granular groups like one for short range one for long or individual weapons as well, but also an alpha strike shoot fucking everything group. When I started MW5 I could only assign a weapon to one group. I think. It was a while ago but that’s what I vaguely remember.
Like wizards of the coast. Not only did they walk back their shitty new open gaming license, they made a better and stronger open gaming license and dumped a ton of material into creative commons. The damage is still done, but props to them for acting in self preservation.

Let’s not forget that in fallout fucking 76 speed was tied to framerate on launch. An online game. With a beefy compy and graphics set to low, you could look at the ground and absolutely zoom across the wasteland.
Mind you, that error was already patched in fallout 4, so they literally copy pasted an old version of 4 to base 76 off of. Here’s hoping starfield isn’t literally just skyrim with space textures added.
Talking about starfield? I guess I wouldn’t be surprised that they’re being forced to shape up, and the reviews seem pretty good so far. I’m still gonna give it a few months before looking at it seriously though. I tend to wait on all triple A games just because how launches traditionally go (baldurs gate being an exception, girlfriend was too hype to wait).
