princessnorah, w Watermark removal?
@princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

What do you mean by “run on Github” exactly?

HeyLow,

OP likely means something they can run locally from GitHub

programmer_having_errors,

Yes like a Open source project that has source code on GitHub (ideally)

HeyLow,

Here’s a github topic on it github.com/topics/watermark-removal

monstoor, w Who are DARKSiDERS and what are they doing?

They’ve been around for a while. They often release Linux and Mac games, and I think they might be affiliated with Razor.

Flax_vert, w Legendary PC developer says Denuvo is “a punishment to the consumer”

I think the best way is to just have basic piracy detection, if someone trips it, then have a message that you can get past appearing guilt tripping them for it lmao

CluelessDude,

Back to OG times in gaming where you would have stupid hats saying pirate or other weird things happening in game like not being able to complete it if it was cracked, good times.

Ab_intra, w German Chancellor officially endorses piracy!

Not really but ok :p

HamBrick,

Not really but this would also be a really funny community image so petition signed

EmoDuck,

I regect your reality and substitute it with my own

u202307011927,

I know how you pronounce gif lol

barrbaric, w Starfield has been cracked

Huh, the game isn’t even out yet. 🏴‍☠️ stay winning, I guess.

hexaflexagonbear,
@hexaflexagonbear@hexbear.net avatar

It’s out on (paid) early access. Think that’s how they got the game files lol.

samus12345, (edited )
@samus12345@sh.itjust.works avatar

As soon as anyone can download a game, all pirates can too (unless Denuvo)!

rizoid, w Where can i find rare books ?
@rizoid@midwest.social avatar

OpenBooks by Evan buss on GitHub. It’s an irc based downloader and I have been able to find even the most obscure stuff with it. At least so far.

seathru, w all but abandonedware

Be the change you want to see. Crowdsource a license, crack it, and set it free

CorrodedCranium,
@CorrodedCranium@leminal.space avatar

There has to be an example of that happening but I can’t find one. Can you think of anything?

Sharpiemarker,

It has a ring of familiarity to it.

mah, w Has YouTube Blocked Your Adblocker Yet??

well, I will stop to use YouTube, and that will solve 2 problems

GamesRevolution, w Whats your preferred codec?
@GamesRevolution@programming.dev avatar

I really love AV1, it’s very small in file size and it’s completely free, meaning that it should play anywhere were it was implemented

hyper,

Are there scene releases that are encoded in AV1?

ruben,
@ruben@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

There are a moderate amount of tightly connected releasers who encode and release AV1. Just add av1 to any search on 1337x and you can find them.

kaya,
@kaya@eviltoast.org avatar

Wish AV1 was more widely used, better licensing than x265 while same compression afaik

LufyCZ,

It’s open, so no licensing.

Also, compression-wise, it’s either equal or better from what I’ve seen

ayaya, (edited ) w Whats your preferred codec?
@ayaya@lemdro.id avatar

For codecs it is highly dependent on the release group. For 4K it is the only valid option, but for 1080p a lot of groups make their x265 encodes too small and sacrifice quality. Take a look at the group rankings in the trash guides for sonarr and radarr for a general idea if who is the best/worst.

As for Tdarr, you should only really use it for audio and subtitle processing. For one you should not re-encode video so unless you’re starting with remuxes you’re further degrading video that is already degraded. And for two it’s best left to the people who know what settings to tweak for each movie or episode. There is no universal setting that works well for everything so while you might be able to get acceptable quality with automation it’s never going to be great. The best groups already took the time and effort to get it right so you might as well get those and save yourself the time/electricity.

PeachMan, w What about non-torrents sites serving cracked software?
@PeachMan@lemmy.one avatar

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. It’s possible that this site you found is perfectly safe, but it’s also very possible that it’s a honeypot or they’re serving up their cracks with a side of malware. I would recommend known torrent websites and reputable crack builders. Running a custom, unsigned .exe is already a risky activity, don’t make it more dangerous.

FaceDeer, w "Copyright fuels creativity [...] promotes free speech", heh
@FaceDeer@kbin.social avatar

Well, it's not wrong to say that about the basic concept of copyright. The original purpose of copyright was to allow authors to feel free to publish stuff more widely without fear of it being "stolen." Without copyright there'd be a lot more proprietary information being squirrelled away in private archives.

But of course, that concept has been completely hijacked over the years. The duration no longer makes sense for that original purpose.

Neato,
@Neato@kbin.social avatar

Yeah. Copyright should exist for like, 20 years or so? Or no more than 10 years after the holder's death so dependent family can adapt. This 90-100 years is bullshit. It doesn't benefit the creators, it benefits the rights holders. Almost always a corporation profiting off the back of their workers.

piratetarip,

Agreed. The fundamental concept doesn’t seem bad. Usually it is harder to create than copy. So for someone to invest resources into creating something, we might want a system that allows him to recoup those costs before someone else who didn’t need to front load those costs undercuts him.

But as you said the current system is broken.

salarua,
@salarua@sopuli.xyz avatar

believe it or not, that wasn’t the original purpose of copyright. copyright was invented as a form of censorship. in 1556, the Charter of the Stationers’ Company was given the exclusive right to control the operation of printing presses in England, up to and including the ability to seize offending books and burn the printing presses that made them (L. Ray Patterson, )

nosurprises, w Youtube - like apps like piped.video, but as Android app?

app that registers as a YouTube endpoint,

I don’t know what you mean, but LibreTube is using the Piped API. Though from my experience, NewPipe is more reliable on mobile.

krimsonbun,

newpipe’s been crashing a lot on my phone, my sibling’s phone and my tv recently, libretube hasn’t

CookieJarObserver, w Is It Farewell To The Internet Archive?
@CookieJarObserver@sh.itjust.works avatar

Internet Archiv will go .onion

AllNewTypeFace,
@AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space avatar

It’ll be hard to do when the bailiffs have seized their building and all their servers

CookieJarObserver,
@CookieJarObserver@sh.itjust.works avatar

Federate it!

totallynotfbi,

That only helps for shadow libraries whose operators are unknown. The Internet Archive, on the other hand, is a registered non-profit organisation, so how would they be able to hide themselves?

AAA,

Just like the OG Pirate Bay. They closed down, and someone else, unknown, took over.

That’s not unproblematic ofc as the new owner can do whatever they want without the oversight of the non-profit.

NotSteve_, (edited )

It’d be harder for IA since they have hundreds of PBs of hard drives. You need like a warehouse for it so it’s a lot harder to hop around

CookieJarObserver,
@CookieJarObserver@sh.itjust.works avatar

They could give the entire data as download and others could take over

totallynotfbi,

It’s not so simple, unfortunately. The sheer amount of data they have - 212 PB as of December 2021 - makes it practically impossible for most people to mirror. Unless they physically hand over all 745 server nodes to another operator, there’s no way of someone

There are some solutions to this - for example Archive-Team has proposed a method of mirroring the Internet Archive using distributed clients, although this method currently only has a fraction of the total dataset. Still, at this point in time, there’s no real solution to resharing IA’s data in the event they go under

turkalino,
@turkalino@lemmy.yachts avatar

how would they be able to hide themselves?

It’s literally in the name for a .onion website: hidden service

Tor hides the identity of servers just as much as it does for client users. So as long as the IA hosts in a country where publishers don’t have jurisdiction, I believe they’ll be fine

WarmApplePieShrek,

Customs and emigration will notice the hundreds of server racks on a boat

ghoscht, (edited ) w [Request] Remove ads from Duolingo?

You can create a Duolingo class which you can then join yourself. This gets you unlimited hearts and no further ads on the mobile version (at least from my experience). Creating a class has no prerequisites so just try it out. If you still want to be able to view the public leaderboard there’s a setting for that in the classroom settings, but it’s disabled by default.

Edit: I’m not sure if there are any other ads besides the premium and family ones, I’m running PiHole so your mileage may vary. I’m only talking about those 2 which PiHole cannot block.

can,

Oh, this is an actual option? I thought the other commenter was joking.

sholomo,

yeah, I can confirm it works. I set it up around 2 years ago and I still don’t have ads and have unlimited hearts
