princessnorah,

Regional pricing can be a good thing at times, they are generally beneficial to lower currency value countries.

princessnorah,

Yes, the statement is in the article, which gives background context.

princessnorah,

Deserves to be its own post honestly. Covers so many fallacies I’ve seen coming up often.

"We approached payment processors because Steam did not respond" - Australian pressure group Collective Shout claims responsibility for Steam and Itch.io NSFW game removal (www.eurogamer.net) angielski

tldr: Australian pressure group Collective Shout has claimed responsibility for the recent Itch.io and Steam developments that have seen the platforms change how they deal with - and in some cases remove - NSFW games and content from their respective platforms....

princessnorah,

By all accounts they aren’t religious, we don’t have gestures broadly to American Evangelicalism going on here in Aus. They just seem to be TERFs and SWERFs.

princessnorah,

…whut? Are you American? Because if so that’s bloody rich. I’ll cop to Murdoch, that’s on us, I’m sorry for that. But what the hell else do we export that’s “fucking garbage”?

princessnorah,

The biggest TERFs in the planet seem to be either Australian

What?? As a trans Australian that’s just completely rubbish. We aren’t having the same anti-trans rhetoric issue here that the US and UK are. In fact the biggest issue we had with TERFs was when Posie Parker came and did a speaking tour.

princessnorah,

Sure, Collective Shout is a TERF group but you tried to make the claim that Australia is one of the biggest sources of TERFs on the planet and that’s just rubbish. I’m going to assume you’re American as well.

princessnorah,

That doesn’t mean you get to try and say Australia is one of the biggest exporters of TERFs because of this one incident mate. It’s not like we don’t have 'em, but they aren’t destructive to the level of the Yanks & Brits.

princessnorah,

More than half of that is just Murdoch, which we covered already?

princessnorah,

Whatever you need to tell yourself. ✌️

princessnorah,

That’s nice sweetie.

princessnorah,

Is that what you think you’ve done here? Sweetie, all you’ve proven is that Murdoch is, indeed, a piece of human excrement. Something I admitted to way up there ^^ somewhere. Please explain how that makes us the biggest TERF exporter, because I fail to see the logic, and our laws & politics seem to contradict you. Come on sweetie, I know you’re clever enough too!

princessnorah,

Oh I understand now lovely, you just don’t know what a TERF is! How silly of me. So, a TERF is a Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist. They call themselves feminists but they aren’t really pro-women. Does that make sense little one? 😊

princessnorah,

Very cool to misgender a trans woman, definitely care about TERFs.

princessnorah,

I’ll add as well, the only reason any of this was possible is FOSTA/SESTA and that’s entirely on the US.

princessnorah,

It’s not at all countries, with the recent round of censoring on Steam and Itch it was an Australian TERF/SWERF advocacy group called Collective Shout. But other policy changes have been linked to their sister orgs in places like the US. They got 1000 people to complain until the policy was changed.

princessnorah,

You and the person above don’t seem to understand the duopoly that Visa and Mastercard have on the global payment processing system. As well, you wouldn’t be boycotting them directly, but businesses that are forced into that duopoly. Unless you and OC are business owners yourself?

princessnorah,

I don’t know, I think you’re clearly underestimating how many people would install Valve’s OS. The number of people with a Steam Deck that don’t know that what it’s running is a Linux distro is pretty high. The other piece to this is that it’s not just a forced Windows update for a huge chunk of users, it’s a forced device upgrade. Valve offering a free upgrade that negates the need to buy new hardware would absolutely capture people’s attention.

princessnorah,

I don’t disagree in principle, but from what I’ve heard the full screen “buy a new computer” pop-ups are pretty bloody annoying!

From 4chan to the White House: James Ball explains how failing to take games seriously has fed the populist right (www.videogamesindustrymemo.com) angielski

Big question: Why have alienated young men, especially in America, found their home in the populist political right? Part of the answer is that the populist right takes video games seriously....

princessnorah,

My immediate thought of leftist/progressive gaming influencers was F1nn5ter. I’m not really into that circle of content creation though.

princessnorah,

YouTube no longer allows any reference to gambling sites or applications “not certified by Google.”

It’s literally on the Play Store, rated at M.

princessnorah,

This isn’t entirely true though. Devs could target an AppImage for example.

low spec gaming looking pretty sunny right now gang (beehaw.org) angielski

Considering the Switch 2 (with those pretty joystick well covers to protect from drift, omg) and the Ryzen Z2 Go announcements, the low cost and availability of Steam Deck & parity level APU machines for purchase now, and the giant 1080p gaming install base represented by current gen consoles, it sure seems like low spec & 1080p...

princessnorah,

Bazzite fixes all of those issues you mentioned in your third paragraph.

princessnorah,

I’ve never encountered any of the issues you’ve talked about here, and every deck-verified game has worked on my Legion Go. Often better, as many “Playable” titles only have marks deducted for small text, which looks fine at 2560*1600.

As for the lesser used distro, I can understand where that creates issues. However, due to it’s immutability, Bazzite is a consistent target to support with no real variations in system packages.

Don't sleep on Retroachievements, big competition coming to beehaw & RA soon (docs.retroachievements.org) angielski

What’s retroachievements? Basically it adds XBOX Live style achievements and global high score tables to retro emulation platforms. This added layer of social gaming and community driven accomplishment hunting really builds on the retro games emulation experience. The best part is you can get it running on pretty much any...

princessnorah,

Usually I don’t make these sort of replies, but did you even try and figure it out for yourself? You literally go to the website and type Contra into the search box…

retroachievements.org/searchresults.php?s=contra

princessnorah,

Those style of fryers aren’t usually on wheels as they have a gas connection…

princessnorah,

No, I know that already, I’m talking about in the real world and how the game gets it wrong, as well as the dishwasher.

princessnorah,

Huh, that’s cool. All the ones at places I worked just had the legs with adjustable feetsies. They sucked to move.

princessnorah,

I feel like I’m missing something, what does the title mean?

princessnorah,

I genuinely think it’s already possible. The PS5 doesn’t exactly have a very new processor, it’s a 4000-series (desktop) Renoir, 7nm, Zen 2 architecture. The Z1E (the chip in the Lenovo Legion Go & ROG Ally X) is a 7040-series (mobile) Phoenix, 4nm, Zen 4/RDNA3 architecture.

The Z1E is basically 10% less performant for about 1/4 the juice. You could easily keep the same resolution, whilst dropping things like particles, shadow effects, etc that aren’t going to be as missed on a much smaller display. I’ve got a Legion but I believe the Ally X has a docked higher TDP mode that would push it to being competitive with the PS5, or at least it would certainly be possible with an active cooling dock.

AMD literally designed the Z1E for handhelds, so Sony would be remiss not to use it. That or a potential “Z2E” successor chip seen as this one is pushing over 18 months since it was announced.

cpu-monkey.com/…/compare_cpu-sony_playstation_5-v…

princessnorah,

PS5, kinda famously, has no exclusive games. I doubt it would be that taxing on devs to essentially create a build that changes it from Ultra settings to High equivalent to the PC versions when they’re all running on an x86 platform. The Series S is just garbage hardware that Microsoft should have never released, the Z1E already outperforms it handily.

I also, out of curiosity, did a search for the “Z2E” and it looks like a large leak surrounding it hit last month: gamesradar.com/…/the-amd-chip-that-could-power-ne…

This chip would be more than capable of matching the PS5’s APU. But the Z2 they’re releasing alongside it will be decently cheaper while matching the Z1E’s performance. So it’ll come down to whether Sony prioritises cost or performance. My money’s on cost though, they’re going to want this thing to be cheaper than a Steam Deck, and the Z2E will put it in Legion Go/Ally X price territory.

princessnorah,

That’s why I use Steam and do not buy on GOG.

Wait, why Steam? GOG only sells DRM-free games. Any Windows game that works through Steam on Linux, works downloading it from GOG with standalone WINE. Or via things like Heroic Launcher, Lutris or Bottles.

princessnorah,

Yea, that as well for sure.

princessnorah,

I have a Legion Go, not a ROG Ally, so I may be wrong here. But Handheld Daemon (HHD) (included OOTB with handheld images) supports fine TDP/fan controls. You get to it by long-pressing the button that brings up the Quick Access Menu in big picture mode.

princessnorah,

HHD allows those things though? https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/pictrs/image/134674c4-c30b-470b-8800-d61ec900c3e4.webp

It even hooks into the Steam TDP controls: https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/pictrs/image/6c050c1e-6d02-4cad-9eff-f6d29f5e49f2.webp

(disclaimer: again, this is a legion go, i cannot confirm that for the rog ally)

princessnorah,

Thanks for the article, super interesting to see his predictions, they weren’t that far off.

princessnorah,

I believe the place it was banned, was on consoles.

princessnorah,

Ah, I see you also just got it for free on Epic 😅

princessnorah,

Yo, thanks heaps for this recommendation. I just switched to linux a few weeks back and have been wondering how to get Nexus running.

princessnorah,

If you haven’t played since relatively early in it’s release, I believe that was a bug that has now been fixed.

princessnorah,

No, it’s a mobile-only feature. On desktop the game only saves once the day ends, either via bed or exhaustion.

princessnorah,

Was it the People Make Games video? Because there was a follow up to it. Am going to link both for anyone that wants a deep dive into how scummy Roblox is:

princessnorah,

Yeah like, in one section it says they’re only supposed to take out of what’s left once necessities are covered, and in another it says he gets help from friends and family for food and clothes. Those are necessities!

princessnorah,

Thanks for pointing out the transcript! I do love when that’s available.

princessnorah,

I seriously don’t understand how people can still hold Valve up as this paragon of virtue, defender of gamers everywhere.
