I’ve seen you post this elsewhere so assume you aren’t just interested in gaming only:

Here’s some that I follow:

  • Anandtech^1: Great general tech website, has some deep dives. It did used to be a lot better
  • Chips and Cheese^2: Insane deep dives into architectures and chips.
  • More than Moore^3: Ex Anandtech editor in chief, does great breakdowns of new AI tech and silicon.
  • igor’s Lab^4: Does some great deep dives into various GPU and CPU issues.
  • KGOnTech^5: Only just followed this blog, seems to do a good teardown on the apple headset.
  • Krebs on Security^6: Blog by one of the best security researchers and breaks down vulnerabilities
  • EE Times^7: Good well written site with overviews on many areas in tech
  • Techspot Featured Articles^8: Mainly gaming and GPU/CPU, but does some good articles exploring games, tech etc

Have they actually said this game and Infinite Wealth would have English dubs?

The excellent dub in LaD is what finally got me into the series.

Dub > Sub. Fight me, Street Hooligans.

ZekeSulastin,

In the LaD dub did they also dub things like the incidental world callouts and such?

Honestly the main reason I played it subbed is because I already did so much of the series with it that I’m used to it, but I was happy to hear that they started doing dubs again with LaD!

@RxBrad@lemmings.world avatar

If I recall, the only thing not dubbed was non-boss-enemy callouts around battles.

damnthefilibuster, w Sergiy Galyonkin (Steam spy) announces departure from Epic Games

Steam spy?

xrtxn,

TIL he made: steamspy.com

brsrklf,

I never used steam spy either, so I had that image of a guy at Epic whose whole job was spying on Steam.

Probably in a trenchcoat and a hat, mainly acting shady around Valve headquarters.

Deceptichum,
@Deceptichum@kbin.social avatar

You’ve certainly described a gamespy.

brsrklf,

I was barely aware of GameSpy while it was still a thing. It was just some service I’d never used.

…or so I thought, until Nintendo killed all its DS and Wii online functions because they were using GameSpy and the service was being shut down.

yads,

Yep, a “maker of” would have been helpful in the title

It’s a tool that makes a survey of Steam games ownership and play times based on public information on Steam Community. It’s useful to game developers and journalists as it allows them to know what is popular.

Oh and Steam Spy has been developed and released before he joined Epic Games.

steamspy.com

Steam Spy is a website created by Sergey Galyonkin and launched in April 2015. The site uses an application programming interface (API) to the Steam software distribution service owned by Valve to estimate the number of sales of software titles offered on the service. Estimates are made based on the API polling user profiles from Steam to determine what software titles (primarily video games) they own and using statistics to estimate overall sales. Software developers have reported that Galyonkin’s algorithms can provide sales numbers that are accurate to within 10%, though Galyonkin cautions against using his estimates in financial projections and other business-critical decisions. Due to changes in Steam’s privacy features in April 2018, Galyonkin had anticipated he would need to shut down the service due to the inability to estimate accurate numbers from other sources, but later that month revealed a new algorithm using publicly available data, which, while having a larger number of outliers, he still believes has reasonable accuracy for use. - Wikipedia

What’s this business about Epic changing from a game developer into a ‘platform’ and him no longer being a good fit? Anyone able to explain that a bit?

BudgieMania,

I have to imagine it is related to the claims that they are gonna retool "Fortnite as a metaverse-inspired ecosystem for creators" and the acquisitions they have made of platforms related to user created content.

<span style="color:#323232;">Name omitted to respect privacy but if you really want to know they're easy to find on both Lalachievements and FFXIVcollect. Here's a picture of what this insanity includes:
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Completed all five ultimate raids.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Cleared all three Deep Dungeons solo.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Discovered at least 20000 hoards from said Deep Dungeons.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> At least 2000 successfully completed mentor roulettes.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> At least 3000 victories in Frontline.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> At least 1000 victories in Rival Wings.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> At least 5000 victories in Crystalline Conflict or The Feast.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Completed every levequest achievement, which due to time-gating takes a minimum of SEVEN years.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Fully cleared all treasure dungeons at least 20 times, including the Hidden Canals of Uznair, which was a notoriously impossible achievement for many years and requires about 2000 Thief's Maps on average.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Obtained every single relic weapon from ARR to EW.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> All extreme trials and final savage raid bosses from ARR to ShB cleared as BLU.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Killed at least 5000 rank S marks and at least 10000 rank A marks and obtained every Hunt mount.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> All Firmament/Diadem achievements including 500,000 skyward score as every DoH/L for the Pteranodon mount.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span><span style="color:#323232;"> Obtained all ocean fishing bonuses and caught every fish.
</span><span style="color:#323232;">
</span>

Can confirm most of these are mind numbingly boring and mundane. I could barely get through the slog of ONE ARR and HW relic for starters. I’m also not ashamed to admit I’ve paid for bot programs to avoid doing a few of these tasks because of how tedious they can be. (Even just normally. I never went out of my way to try and complete any of these achievements.)

What a sad story. This person is no doubt now facing feelings of intense emptiness as well as a realization that a substantial part of their life has been wasted on something utterly meaningless and without value. I hope they make it through that darkness to find something else to occupy themselves with soon—hopefully something that results in happiness, knowledge and expertise this time around.

JackDark, w Frostpunk 2 Preview: Less Frost and More Punks in This Daunting Society Simulator Sequel

Frostpunk was an amazing game, but I honestly don’t know that I ever want to play the sequel. The first one was so stressful. It was the game equivalent of Requiem for a Dream, ie the best game I never want to play again.

bionicjoey,

Same. I remember beating the game and then finding out that there are multiple campaign missions. And I was like “no thanks, once is enough”

abraxas,

Worse (at least back then), the replayability plummeted a lot. Once the fear was gone, you played a couple times to see all the branches and min-max a bit. Once you did an extreme deathless run, it was as solved-problem as any puzzler (which in a way, it was).

I’m curious what a sequel would look like. If it’s a totally different puzzle to work out, it might be interesting.

From the images, though, it looks like it might be a bit more seamless an experience, where expanding beyond the initial burner is possible. That could change everything.

I'm talking like throwing some messages in binary through specific set of sub pixels of images for a year that all come through because they're my actual plans, then switching them to obviously insane nonsense that will take way longer to disprove and finding a way to get someone to notice.

oddspinnaker,

I’m always curious about how hard it is to make insane nonsense that’s hard to disprove. Like, 100% randomization seems like it could be easier to detect vs. more believable things added by people.

So then you have to spend time making it believable…

conciselyverbose, (edited )

I was thinking kind of like steganography.

"If you take the green subpixel at (46,85), (75,32)... it contains just enough letters you could read as words that form a story detail. And in this post it's a gameplay hint. And this one is a character name" but the same locations enough times in a row that it's hard to be random. Then post a crazy fan theory post after the early ones are known facts about the game and I've embedded crazy shit in a few.
