lustrum,

I’ve seen you post this elsewhere so assume you aren’t just interested in gaming only:

Here’s some that I follow:

  • Anandtech^1: Great general tech website, has some deep dives. It did used to be a lot better
  • Chips and Cheese^2: Insane deep dives into architectures and chips.
  • More than Moore^3: Ex Anandtech editor in chief, does great breakdowns of new AI tech and silicon.
  • igor’s Lab^4: Does some great deep dives into various GPU and CPU issues.
  • KGOnTech^5: Only just followed this blog, seems to do a good teardown on the apple headset.
  • Krebs on Security^6: Blog by one of the best security researchers and breaks down vulnerabilities
  • EE Times^7: Good well written site with overviews on many areas in tech
  • Techspot Featured Articles^8: Mainly gaming and GPU/CPU, but does some good articles exploring games, tech etc
lustrum,

Companies always do this shit, penny wise, pound foolish.

lustrum,

Big time. Their chassis design will dictate performance too. They will get the best chip they can in a cost budget and then thermal/battery limits will dictate where that chip actually lies.

The steam deck is cool and a great device but the Switch 2 will be sleeker and nintendo won’t settle for a 90min battery a whiney fan, and that has trade offs.

lustrum,

Might actually be a good shout.

Switch 1 had a 720p screen with a 1080p max TV output. That’s approx a 2x increase in throughput.

With Switch 2 it’s expected to be a 1080p screen and a 4k output, that’s a 4x increase in pixel throughput. So a 2x output increase might not be adequate.

However, it is widely expected to have DLSS, which would greatly reduce that requirement.

Yeah the maths starts to add up. (There are some assumptions below, but you get the jist).

  • The Xbox One had a software attach rate of 7 gamers per console^1 sold or on average that’s 1 game per year per user for the life of the console.
  • In the Xbox One generation over 8 years they sold 0.875 games per user per year. Assume £50 a game. That’s £43 per xbox console owner per year.
  • Per gamepass subscriber they’re currently recieving £90+ in subscriptions per year.
lustrum,

Right but even if you half the number it’s still only on par with last generation with significantly more room to grow and predictable income.

lustrum,

Even more from a 40FPS option.

lustrum,

It’s 720p on PS5 then upscaled. It runs ok at 60FPS. But the Res is simply too low for me

lustrum,

Sportsurge.to has worked decent for me the last 2 seasons.

lustrum,

Ah crap, sorry misread your title. It’s live.

Anyone else think trailers like this are just a waste of time? Literally learnt nothing.
