Murvel, (edited ) w Cyberpunk 2077 2.0's revamped police force is finally good enough

Just leaves the other half of the game to be fixed. I swear I gave it another go a month ago, and it was as buggy as the first time I played it. Just with new bugs, this time around.

edit: it’s still a buggy fucking game

paddirn,

I never suffered from the game-stopping bugs others had, but IMO the other half of the game that needs fixed is the storyline itself. The character’s storyline itself is so linear that nothing you really do makes a difference, your background is just reduced to a set of extra dialogue choices. It’s all just window dressing over a very on-rails game. All they needed to do was just copy GTA V more and it’d be an improvement over this game.

Is Arkane going to start making good games again? After Colantonio stepped down and everything after Prey I’m going to say that’s gonna be a no. Will love to be proven wrong.

Sethayy,

Gotta agree, without even realizing he stepped down I’ve tried every post-prey game and they just can’t keep my interest tbh

Diabolo96, w Bluey's getting a four-player video game adaptation in November

I watch bluey with my 2 years old niece to teach her a foreign language and it’s one of the rare shows along miraculous where she can watch and ep or two before getting bored and deciding to go back to play with her toys instead. ( my sister made sure to not get her addicted to any screen but her husband got the kid slightly addicted to a few youtube songs anyways…🙃).

Bluey is a great show, but it leans to much on the “parents life amarite” side. I miss the old cartoons that were crazy and funny enough to keep kids watching but self aware enough to keep it watchable and enjoyable for the parents too, just like old cartoon network shows. We adults can enjoy some wackiness too.

4am, w Microsoft Nintendo acquisition hopes revealed by leaked Xbox exec email

If Microsoft acquired Nintendo I will give up on all video games forever.

Like yeah Nintendo is a big bad capitalist company but, just, no. I can’t think of a better way to make gaming worse.

PM_ME_FEET_PICS,

Microsoft would make the company a lot more retail friendly.

End Nintendos fake scarcity selling tactics.

HarkMahlberg, (edited )
@HarkMahlberg@kbin.social avatar

Forget fake scarcity, the REAL scarcity of pre-acquisition Nintendo games and consoles would skyrocket. Microsoft is only consumer-friendly now because they're still in the phase of acquiring a critical mass of content and users. Once they have both, and everything is on Game Pass, they'll jack up the price as high as they want knowing you'd lose access to all your games if you don't pay.

sugar_in_your_tea,

Yup, there’s a reason I don’t consider getting GamePass or any other subscription service.

philluminati, (edited )

Nintendo has an incredible brand for easy child friendly and safe gaming experiences. It‘a products are about as retail friendly as you can possibly get. It’s trustworthy. You just buy them off the shelf and slot the cartridges into the unit.

Microsoft is famous for anti-consumer practices, poor UI design, expensive licensing, abandoning products like their Phone, Zune.

Sethayy,

And Nintendo loves to make trash consoles, making them insanely simple to emulate. Microsoft has decades of cyber security experience and would probably lock that right down.

(no of fence to Nintendo consoles, if anything its what made them interesting)

Paranomaly,
@Paranomaly@sh.itjust.works avatar

I get where you’re coming from, but I don’t mind rentals if they are what you are intending. I miss being able to try out a game for a few days for a few bucks from renting it.

I don’t care for it in streaming, though, as when it’s a perpetual subscription I feel much more obligated to play the subscription games than those I’ve traditionally purchased to get my money’s worth. I like playing things when I feel like it. It doesn’t help that each time I’ve tried using Game Pass it’s taken hours to get it properly working and the games to function

Sethayy,

See the latest console they want to make “streaming hybrid” focused? Sounds like the series x is the last console I’ll be getting for a while

vettnerk, (edited ) w Bluey's getting a four-player video game adaptation in November

I hope that, just like the series, it’s meant for adults, but kids like it too.

NumbersCanBeFun, w Doom Studio id Software is Seemingly Working on new Version of its Game Engine - id Tech 8
@NumbersCanBeFun@kbin.social avatar

Didn’t they work on a new engine when they made fallout 76? I’m sure that wasn’t at all a disaster.

n3m37h,

id Software provided development assistance on Fallout 76, in the form of additional programmers. Specifically, they assisted with netcode from Quake Champions to support the multiplayer functionality needed to realize the game.

The creation engine is the disaster

NumbersCanBeFun,
@NumbersCanBeFun@kbin.social avatar

That’s fair. Thanks for pointing it out.

JasSmith,

Can you imagine trying to shove netcode into Gamebryo? Id developers on their first day.

Edgelord_Of_Tomorrow,

Gamebryo was an MMO engine before it was a single player engine interestingly enough

eltimablo,

It's also used for the FIFA games, if I'm not mistaken.

n3m37h,

And on the last day of ID working at Bethesda the “this is fine” meme was made

TeddyPolice,

Snatching netcode from Quake Champions is a disaster. You know, that competitive multiplayer game with client authoritative hit detection. It’s broken in design.

n3m37h,

So a perfect match for the creation engine!

CE is actually way better than people give it credit for. This “Bethesda engine bad” sentiment is primarily users throwing a crap ton of broken mods without any rhyme or reason into the game and then acting all surprised pikachu when that causes problems.

PP_BOY_, w $70 Mortal Kombat 1 Switch version called "robbery" as graphical comparisons flood the internet
@PP_BOY_@lemmy.world avatar

It probably cost more in development to port the game to Switch than any other console. Graphics quality is irrelevant when users willingly buy a device with worse hardware than consoles. This seems like a case of “fans” wanting to eat their cake and have it too.

Fraylor,

You’re one of the first people I’ve seen use the cake metaphor correctly.

Sethayy,

But it also puts it closer to the mobile market than console, especially given that the switch essentially has a mobile soc

Has this writer never used Steam or is he just unaware how many people buy games they don’t actually play

Firstly: If you had ever used Steam, you’d know that Steam differentiates between “have game in the library” and “have previously played a game”. A bought game that was never launched, doesn’t show up in these stats.

Secondly: It’s clear you did not bother to read the article. “The numbers take into account players on Xbox, as well as those playing the Game Pass/Windows Store version of the game on PC.” The 25% number isn’t even from Steam.

Thranduil,

I have used steam for 12 years and I never knew that.

mindbleach, w Nintendo will update F-Zero 99 with more courses very soon

Wait, they rehashed a Super Nintendo game from thirty years ago, and didn’t even launch with all of its dozen levels? The original weighed less than a megabyte! Opening day should’ve been every track from all two of the 2D F-Zero games Nintendo ever made.

DarkThoughts,

Yeah but it's a 99 racer BATTLE ROYALE! Total innovation! Buy our online subscription!

Or just emulate all the original installments of the franchise that they killed 20 years ago for free.

mindbleach,

Weirdly, I have to defend against the idea they killed F-Zero. They did exactly what they intended with it, from the get-go: they showed off new hardware with a previously-impossible sense of speed. Once for SNES planecasting, once for N64 z-buffering, once for GBA planecasting, and once for Gamecube fillrate.

Every other F-Zero game is third-party.

Nintendo is a toy company. If a product is not novel, they are not interested. That’s why every Mario Kart has some stupid gimmick. Even in the first one, splitscreen multiplayer was the stupid gimmick. They shipped F-Zero and realized the SNES had a second controller… but no two-player games. Shrinking the courses to a static tilemap required smaller scale and lower speed, hence tiny karts. Really take a moment to consider that: even by 1992, F-Zero was not fit for purpose. It no longer achieved what Nintendo makes games for. Doing it again would not be impressive. Doing it again would not be novel. And the fact it’s easy to cram endless bullshit into Mario Kart is why that franchise keeps getting releases, while F-Zero collected dust - until they picked this online clusterfuck gimmick.

But the fact this retro game-as-a-service (ptoo!) couldn’t be arsed to include even one game’s whole level set, when each track must take less space than this comment, is baffling.

DarkThoughts,

You defend Nintendo's reasoning, I defend the consumer that doesn't buy them for them being some weird tech demo for their underperforming hardware.

I’m holding out for the Persona 3 Royal edition that has dlc but bundled and sold as a full game anyways so I’m not spending the money twice.
