Bethesdas remaster would probably be nothing more than a version with updated graphics and lighting and support for modern software. This guy is rebuilding the game from scratch in a modern engine.
Fun fact there were olny six years between Oblivion and Skyrims release. Thats right skyrim has been out longer than the release time between oblivion and skyrim.
Which is in itself a slightly updated version of Oblivions gamebryo, which was conceived in the 90s. Calling it a modern engine is extremely generous if not completely wrong.
These people are rebuilding the game from "scratch" in Skyrim's Creation Engine version, but it's still nothing more than a version with updated graphics and lightning. Bethesda's probably going to be using FO4 or Starfield's CE version, which will have the same result albeit shinier.
I haven’t even read the article yet and I’m at full sail.
Edit after reading:
The new rails look gorgeous, and I need those new S-bends immediately. And those smooth curves!
And this:
We have increased the big electric pole range to 32 to go along with this.
is how you know a game dev is in touch with their audience.
Although this confirms my suspicions from last week that 1.1.x maps will be incompatible with the 2.x update, which is a shame but completely understandable. That just means that I have to hurry up and launch my first rocket before that happens! (I swear I’m making actual progress and not just staring blankly at my machines at work)
It says that you can still use the old rails but you won’t be able to build them the same way. You can just rebuild the trails you really need or want the other way
As you can probably guess, the new rail curves will be incompatible with the old ones. Savegames from 1.1 can be opened and trains will still run on previously built rails just like normal, but you won’t be able to construct the old rails at all anymore. In some future Factorio update when we decide to drop 1.1 savegame compatibility (Let’s say 2.1), we will eventually get rid of the old rail shapes completely.
Ah, I misinterpreted that, it seems you’re right. Still, it looks like there will come a point where 1.1.x maps will no longer be supported, which is again understandable.
It sounds more like you’d have to load the savegame in 2.0, then load it from 2.1. Theoretically they aren’t changing Nauvis all that much, so I can’t see why it would be unsupported just yet.
I’m sure it will come with a way to update the map like opening with the second to last update to reformat it. It would be a shame for some megabases I’ve seen to just stop being able to play them
If they launched with this, I think the community would’ve been fine with it. But IMO the damage has been done, and a lot of indies are going to look elsewhere.
99% of it was them trying to make the new fee structure retroactively apply to already-released products, and the damage there has already been done. The fact that they think they can change the negotiated fee structure after the fact makes Unity a huge liability to use now. No one can ever be sure they won't suddenly pull a "give us more money or stop selling your game" move sometime down the line.
But there’s also the sketchy (and anticompetitive, and potentially illegal in some jurisdictions) fee vouchers they were using to try to tank AppLovin’s customer base, as well as the silent and sneaky update of their license terms that everyone discovered after the fact. The “apology” makes absolutely no mention of those. And I find that incredibly telling (aside, of course, from the lack of exec team shakeup).
Yeah, in particular them saying now "You will keep the license of the version you use" rings very hollow when they literally showed they can retract that whenever they want ANd get a lawyer to defend that move in no uncertain terms.
Precisely. They’ve already done it, and the people who made that decision haven’t gone anywhere. They will definitely try something similar in the future.
I’m super curious where Corel will end up! On the original game all the flashbacks made it seem like it was not too far from North Corel, but the Gold Saucer goldola and remnants of Corel in the prison made no sense…
[slightly off-topic] surprisingly forthright, why can’t we get info like this in respect to the index? i would LOVE to finally get into VR but i’m certainly not paying full price for a piece of 5 year old tech in an industry that has moved as fast as VR has
Good. I hope it is longer than that. Fragmenting the platform will do no one any good at this stage in its life, and its performance is completely adequate for what it is.
Given that I just bought one and am waiting for it to arrive in the bloody mail. I think that’s fine.
Also, I’m okay with playing less intensive titles regardless. If I wanted to be immersed with high fidelity stuff I’d use my gaming PC. I also chose the Deck over the Ally and Legion Go due to software integration and hardware repair options.
