mojofrododojo, w CD Projekt boss pushes back on 'conspiracy theories' against diversity in gaming: 'We live in times where anyone can record complete nonsense and make a story out of it'
@mojofrododojo@lemmy.world avatar

Seems like the gamergate chuds are trying to make stories happen in a bunch of places.

wizardbeard,
@wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Ugh, I hate that the actual ethical issues in games journalism got swallowed up by all the other hateful bullshit.

Like, sponsored articles weren’t being disclosed, and some games journalists were being fired for refusing to give favorable reviews to games that were advertising on their site. There were private mailing lists where behind the scenes coordination was happening to push kinder reviews of one member of the list’s friend’s indie game. White jounalists were claiming themselves as mouthpieces for minority gamers who never asked for someone else to speak for them.

Which gave cover for explicit mysogyny and hate… then further got twisted by far-right idealogues like Milo Yannopolous and Breitbart.

This would be a non controversy if they just ignored twitter.

It’s made much worse by the games “journalists” industry paying too much attention to X. They find some crackpot spouting off controversy, elevate that shit to the moon, and suddenly other people are talking about this opinion that only lives in a vacuum.

IGN, PCGamer, RPS, Kotaku… they all live for this shit.

Schaedelbach, w Assassin's Creed Mirage is Now One of the Lowest-Rated Games in the Series

The rating is 77. 77 is the lowest rating a game in the main series of Assassins Creed has received. This means the other games have 78 or up. How in the world is this considered bad? For an entire fucking franchise? Not a fan of the series or anything but I just think it’s ridiculous how this is an actual headline! Don’t the journalists have nothing else to report on regarding video games and the industry? Layoffs? Toxic people and business practices? Microtransactions?

Nah, instead they go: “pretty good (but not great) game is slightly less good than other pretty good (but not great) games in an overall pretty good (but not great) franchise.” Ugh!

AnonTwo,

To be fair, just because one article exists doesn't mean other articles can't exist. Not every article has to be of equal importance.

Cycloprolene,

In case you haven’t noticed, for the last 30 years any garbage can gets >70 rating.

coffinwood,

The headline says it’s the lowest-rated game in the series, not that Mirage is a bad game. The article bases itself on a single data point, which leaves a lot of room for interpreting. Which the author does a little.

But it’s nowhere mentioned or claimed that Mirage is a badly-reviewed game or doesn’t sell well. It’s just the lowest entry so far. And that’s what everybody should take away from that headline, followed by ignoring the hollow clickbaity article altogether.

BruceTwarzen,

I watched a review video that was praising everything in this game. "Finally another good AC." "The vombat is fun and challenging." "Looks fantastic on the new engine."
Then i watched just some guy playing it and it honestly looks janky as hell. He always got stuck while parkouring, the parkour itself seems like the same press one button to do parkour, but this time it's really jank. There is no weapon variety at all. The combat looks really bad, it looks like the least fun combat in all these kind of games. The world looks really good, but the people in the world the jank ass AI and NPC doing weird shit while looking pretty Bethesda like. I haven't played it, but how this got a 77 or anything above a 5/10 is beyond me.

hoshikarakitaridia, w Unity’s CEO is out, but that still may not be enough for developers

Yeah I’m gonna give the summary of the most important comments on this:

  • Unity is untrustworthy
  • they pulled this shit knowing it would fall flat
  • the CEO got his position when he was already known to be a prick
  • shady insider trading is shady
  • the board who chose or approved the CEO is still the same
  • there’s solid alternatives

These are all the reasons why you shouldn’t go back to Unity. That said, I’m very sorry for the Devs of Unity who most definitely don’t deserve this.

1984, (edited ) w Counter-Strike 2 has a lower rating than any other Valve game, ever
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

I get so annoyed with the game. Constant stuttering and lagging.

And it’s completely wrong of them to merge the CS2 reviews into the cs go reviews and remove cs go. Not sure who thought that was a good idea.

whereBeWaldo,

Wait did they really merge the cs1 (meaning the game released in 2000) reviews or do you mean the csgo by cs1?

1984,
@1984@lemmy.today avatar

Ah sorry. They merged cs go reviews into cs 2.

And they removed cs go so it’s not possible to play it anymore. We are all forced to play cs 2 or nothing now. In my case, I can’t play since it’s so laggy so I just lost a game I paid for and had 1000 hours in.

whereBeWaldo,

Oh I see, I personally haven’t had any performance issues and think the game looks gorgeous right now but to be honest I only played CS2 for like an hour and haven’t been playing csgo since they removed Iris from the competitive matchmaking. So I am not really the best judge for the game’s quality.

Merging reviews is really dubious though, I can kinda understand it as they replaced csgo’s store page with CS2’s but adding CS2 as a seperate game and adding it to the libraries of csgo owners would’ve been the better solution imo. I guess they didn’t want to bother with making csgo inventory tab compatible with the cs2 game.

Rin,

are you on Linux? performance is absurdly bad on Linux…

DerisionConsulting, w Unity’s CEO is out, but that still may not be enough for developers

Choices are not made by 1 person in an organization.
Getting rid of one person isn’t solving the program, pretending that it is is insulting.

Aurenkin,

Yeah exactly, he left because he finished the job he was there to do. Now they are acting like this is some kind of move to placate their customers as if it wasn’t the plan all along.

doublejay1999,
@doublejay1999@lemmy.world avatar

I made an edit .

Point being, is it really fair to say not enough mac users are playing CSGO when it’s 10 years old and based on a game 10 years older than that ?

lowleveldata,

Ya? What does the age of the game have to do with the current measurements?

Vilian,

wasn’t cs:go like always on top10 most playable games of all steam?

Cagi, w Counter-Strike 2 has a lower rating than any other Valve game, ever

I was hopping ng for something a bit more modernized, like ADS for every gun, and larger, better maps. It still feels 20 years old.

priapus,

Then it wouldn’t be CS. There’d be no point playing it instead or something like R6

Cagi,

Yes, exactly. I’ll play other games and so will many others. There are enough CS players still playing to make sustaining it worthwhile, but it won’t win over many new players when it feels extremely dated to play.

fox2263, w Valve Says Counter-Strike 2 for macOS Not Happening Because There Aren't Enough Players on Mac to Justify It

If you build it, they will come.

Vilian,

no?, Valve tried, never gave any result, and linux surpasses it in a year of thet launch of steam deck, Apple also don’t help fucking with opengl,vulkan and switching to Arm

mana, w Valve Says Counter-Strike 2 for macOS Not Happening Because There Aren't Enough Players on Mac to Justify It

The article might as well be “Valve Says Counter-Strike 2 for macOS Not Happening Because We Have a Vested Interest In Selling Steam Decks” just as Apple isn’t porting iMessage (and other apps) to Android because they have a vested interest in selling iPhones.

AnonStoleMyPants, w Hearts of Iron IV: Arms Against Tyranny | Official Release Trailer

Looks dope. Have been thinking of trying hoi4 with a friend of mine for a long time but the cost of multiple expansions is a bit much, even though there is a steam sale going. Maybe one of these days.

@away2thestars@programming.dev avatar

I’m working on a 7 year old game with Unity. It will take me a long time and energy to port to Godot. I’m gonna carry on with unity, but I’m learning Godot at the same time. I really wish there was a porting button you could press.

@chemical_cutthroat@lemmy.world avatar

APassenger,

That would be awesome.

away2thestars,
@away2thestars@programming.dev avatar

A button to export project you mean? Amazon could definitely give Godot some love. There are exporting projects, but they break a bit on the code part apparently

Crackhappy,
@Crackhappy@lemmy.world avatar

I would really love to hear your perspective on the differences between unity and godot and the minutiae of the port. Also, I’m a longtime coder.

away2thestars,
@away2thestars@programming.dev avatar

I spent a week and really liked Godot, lightweight, amazing UX, very compatible with Linux, and the feeling of being part of a community is so good. C# support is great, but not as good as Gdscript, and coding in C# is so much faster for me. For instance there is no hot reloading on C#. Managed to get Vs code working and debugging after as while but broke the compatibility with unity of Vs code. So it’s tricky to work on both engines on Vs code simultaneously.

Crackhappy,
@Crackhappy@lemmy.world avatar

It’s hard to quantify the daily trials of coding.

colourlesspony, w Valve Says Counter-Strike 2 for macOS Not Happening Because There Aren't Enough Players on Mac to Justify It

I wonder if part of the reason is that apple deprecated opengl on mac os and replaced it with their property graphics api Metal. I image it would be a lot of work to port the source the engine to Metal just for a small amount of users.

Vilian,

CS2 uses Vulkan not opengl, apple still don’t support it tho
