pleb_maximus, do games w Baldur's Gate expansions are Weird - Warlockracy video

Warlockracy videos are always a treat!

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

He’s like a Russian MandaloreGaming, with his ability to slip in deep pull references into sentences without breaking stride.

The amount of wacky Russian language games and mods he has brought to light for the rest of us is amazing.

pleb_maximus,

He does provide a wonderful look into the weird world that is Russian games and their watniks.

Never watched MandalroeGaming to be honest. But maybe I should instead of watching Warlockcracy and Civvie yet again.

Canadian_Cabinet,

I’m not a huge fan of game reviews but I love Mandalore’s yearly Halloween reviews. Games like Ring, Mystery of the Droods, Anonymous Agony, and Limbo of the Lost go from trash tier to the funniest things ever with his commentary

pleb_maximus,

After having watched an older video and some more recent ones, I definitely prefer his more recent, more structured ones. But maybe I just had bad luck with the old one being the Return of the King one.
Felt way too unstructured for my taste. But it was cool that he got Sean Astin for part the video. :D

    Does not work.

    That’s what I was pointing out and providing an amended link.

    catloaf,

    That’s not the fault of OP, that’s Lemmy mangling the preview.

    Darkassassin07,
    @Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

    I wasn’t trying to assign blame…

    Just noticed it didn’t work when I tried it, so I added the working one for others to follow if they wish.

    But the crowd mentally needs something to be pissed about; so go ahead, pile on some more downvotes. Glad I could provide some release.

    iAmTheTot,
    @iAmTheTot@kbin.social avatar

    That is the description of the YouTube video. Unless OP is also the person that uploaded the YT video, OP doesn't have control of that.

    xkforce,

    Op does have the power to post the exact same link that this person did.

    Chozo,

    Ah, I misunderstood and see what you're referring to now. It looks like the way YouTube auto-truncates URLs caused the link to get mashed into the next line of text on the preview Lemmy fetched. As others mention, that's more of a Lemmy bug than anything.

    Aatube,

    the post title is "Release Trailer"

    Darkassassin07,
    @Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

    Indeed.

    The post also contains a link to github as well as a link to youtube.

    The github link does not work, hence my comment.

    I’ve been saying this for years now ever since they pulled out of Gamescom and just let Sony have Europe.

    When was that? 2016?

    eurogamer.net/microsoft-opts-out-of-xbox-gamescom…

    Or even before that… 2012, bailing on BOTH Gamescom AND Tokyo Game Show:

    Carighan,
    @Carighan@lemmy.world avatar

    I mean I bailed on gamescom even before that, given how badly the event was always organized.

    Seems to be the in thing for companies to destroy any and all goodwill they have.

    CleoTheWizard,
    @CleoTheWizard@lemmy.world avatar

    Yeah except most consumers no longer care about goodwill when buying new products so they’ve just figured out that it doesn’t matter what they do. So if a company has goodwill at this point, it might as well just be unspent money.

    Just in case you are still curious, and I don’t see any actual answers here. The download provided is all the code for the game engine and everything else that would be going on in the background of the game. Anything that could be copyrighted by Nintendo (things like character and object models, textures, music, and environments) need to come from a totally legit dump from an official Nintendo cartridge and definitely not any ol’ .rom file you can download online

    It feels like they’re turning focus to PC and abandoning Xbox. I don’t own an Xbox myself though.

    haui_lemmy,

    Honestly, it think thats a really good idea. Proprietary consoles are a relict and its great if they go away and get replaced by open platforms like the steamdeck and steam machines (not necessarily affiliated with valve though).

    umbrella,
    @umbrella@lemmy.ml avatar

    locking down consoles to games only always felt stupid when they are basically pcs anyway. they should have been multipurpose machines all along instead of walled gardens.

    haui_lemmy,

    Fully agree. I would even outlaw the walled garden concept completely. I would necessitate interconnecting APIs for everything. So that I can call apples app store over their api from any machine for example.

    If someone comes up with an example that overburdens a company, they need to allow others to make such tools for free.

    Also, i would outlaw any fee on things that cant be explained logically. Like apple tax for example.

    Same obviously goes for consoles.

    kureta,

    open standards and interoperability should be the law.

    haui_lemmy,

    Amen

    Do we need to worry about GitHub shutting this down even though it’s not doing anything wrong?

    FatTony,
    @FatTony@discuss.online avatar

    Given we’re dealing with Nintendo. Yes absolutely.

    simple,

    Actually not really. It’s not sharing any of Nintendo’s assets so there isn’t any ground for it to be removed.

    Owljfien,

    Since when has not having grounds stopped corporations from trying? Case in point, YouTube copyright striking

    PseudorandomNoise,
    @PseudorandomNoise@lemmy.world avatar

    They’re much more likely to spend time on the easy wins than on anything that’ll take time and money to fight in court. Since these folks aren’t redistributing any of Nintendo’s copyrighted content, it’s not as simple of a takedown as an emulator that includes private keys.

    refalo,

    what emulator includes private keys? because it’s not yuzu

    Darkassassin07,
    @Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

    Github isn’t taking Nintendo to court over one of their users projects. They just comply with the takedown request and remove it. The user/dev isn’t going to fight Nintendo to bring it back either.

    This seems pretty awesome, I may just have to give it a go. I never had a chance to play through MM back in the day.

    RHOPKINS13, do games w Recompilation: An Incredible New Way to Keep N64 Games Alive

    Sm64ex-coop is amazing! I never got far in super mario 64, the camera gave me headaches. I did know it was a revolutionary game for it's time though.

    With sm64ex-coop, you can enable free look with the camera, and if you set it up right it feels just like the camera in many modern games. There are hi-res texture packs (Render96) available that also look amazing. And finally, they added a bunch of mods and features, one major one being the ability to play multiplayer.

    Oh yeah, and it's cross-platform, runs on a whole bunch of different devices. I highly recommend checking it out, it's sooo much better than anything you'll get from an emulator.

    ramirezmike,

    I suspect it was my age when I first played it but when I play it now I don’t feel the camera pain. I know that’s the biggest complaint but what exactly is the pain? is it hard to articulate exactly other than it feels like a lack of control?

    Naz,

    I was another person who suffered from motion sickness trying to play the original Super Mario 64.

    I wish I could tell you what it was - I have played everything under the sun, including VR (in which I was also motion sick), and the closest thing I could come up with is the low FOV combined with the automatic movement of the camera.

    I think it’s similar for people who get car sick as a passenger, but not a driver.

    CynicRaven,

    Heck yeah, this sounds fantastic. Are you able to give me any pointers in a response or DM on how to move forward with getting it all set up? My wife never had a 64 so she never got to experience the game. Ideally, we’d play it together each of us on our Steam Decks. I’ve bought All Stars or whatever it’s called on the Switch but the prospect of us playing through the game together almost like a couch Co OP experience is extremely enticing. Obviously, you’re not responsible for me figuring everything out so if there’s a good forum or even video link discussing it, I’d be most appreciative.

    smeg,

    It’s been a few years since I tried it out but I think following these instructions on an Ubuntu machine worked without any problems. From there you just copy the binary to your Deck and add it as a non-Steam game as normal (making sure to use the Linux runtime rather than Proton).

    CynicRaven,

    Awesome thank you so much for the pointers!

    smeg,

    You’re welcome :)

    Psythik,

    And then of course there’s the oblkgitory Ship of Harkinian for my Ocarina of Time fans, which is probably the most feature-complete PC port of an N64 game ever.
