Palworld confirms ‘disappointing’ game changes forced by Pokémon lawsuit (www.videogameschronicle.com)

With the implementation of Patch v0.5.5 this week, we must make yet another compromise. From this patch onward, gliding will be performed using a glider rather than with Pals. Pals in the player’s team will still provide passive buffs to gliding, but players will now need to have a glider in their inventory in order to glide....

This lawsuit is so stupid. In my opinion, patenting, copyrighting, or trademarking concepts or mechanics in video games shouldn’t be allowed at all. The nemesis system in the Shadow of Mordor games was so cool, but we’re never going to see anything like it again. Warner went through the trouble to copyright (or something idk I’m not a lawyer) that system, and then let the series die out.

I’m waiting to see the headlines that any other games with a shooty thing that goes bang is illegal, and the concept of shooting a gun in a video game is going to be owned by either Rockstar/Take Two or the collective mob of Call of Duty developers. If the world is gonna get that stupid, I got my fingers crossed that Bubsy 3D owns the rights to jumping

Edit: Thought about it for 10 more seconds and I have questions. Is it specifically gliding using a creature that Nintendo has a problem with, or is it creature-assisted traversal in general? Can they sue Skyrim since you can ride horses? Palworld made the change so that you need to build a glider to glide around. BOTW and TOTK used gliders. Is Nintendo gonna sue them for that now too? I fucking hate all of this so God damned much

I’ve heard a lot of good things about VA-11 Hall-A. Haven’t played it myself, but it looks like you play as a bartender in a cyberpunk-esque world and talk to the partons in your bar to get to know what’s going on in both the world and their personal lives

That’s so fucking weird to drop a remaster or remake like that so suddenly with no advertising or announcement. Something about this still doesn’t feel right in my gut, so I guess I’ll believe it when (if) it does drop. I don’t even know if I am going to buy it if it’s real, I have more faith in the modders behind Skyblivion than I do in Bethesda to actually do right with their IPs

Are there any games you don't play as it was intended to be played? If so, what game and how?

I know I remember seeing some people talk about how nice some of the environments in Hitman were, and that they’d just walk around as a tourist from time to time, treating it like a walking simulator/virtual tourism thing instead of the stealth assassination game it is. Curious about other things like that, where you play a...

Some friends and I play multi-world randomizers together. Randomizers modify a game so that important items/unlocks are in different locations or are obtained in a different way. I usually play Ocarina of Time and a randomizer changes all the “treasure chest” items found throughout the world, so instead of finding the bow in the Forest Temple (where it should be in the game), it could be found behind a rock in a cave in the middle of the field. I constantly have to ask myself “What items don’t I have yet?” and “What areas do I have access to that I haven’t searched yet?” It turns the game into a kind of puzzle game. There is a website we use called Archipelago.gg that lets you connect randomizers together. I can play an OOT randomizer and my friend can be playing a Pokemon Emerald randomizer, and when I open a chest I can find items from his game and he gets a gym badge, an HM, or something else dropped into his inventory. And it works the other way when he beats another trainer, he could get one of my items and I get some rupees, or a hookshot dropped into my inventory.

Nier Automata actually kinda pissed me off the first time I played it. Thought I was finished with the game and was confused by the ending, turns out that was just ending A. Gotta play again for B, and then C, and can’t forget D and E for the full picture.

Had to take a break from the game but I went back for the rest of the endings and they’re worth it. Also they cut out a lot of the side quests and grinding after ending A. Getting that first ending is actually like 50% or 60% finished. But yeah, at first I was getting flashbacks to the PS2 games that tell you the true ending can only be seen by playing again on the newly unlocked ‘Very Hard’ difficulty

Anyone else bounce around from game to game with no clue what to play?

Used to spend most of my days playing live service games that required a huge amount of time, or big AAA titles that are critically acclaimed. For example, Fallout 4/76, Battlefield 2042, rainbow six, World of Warcraft, RuneScape, Skyrim, Destiny 2, OverWatch… Basically any really big game that you would find on the top 20 of...

Looks like all the games you’ve listed are games where you can spend hours just to grind to the next level, or are filled with mundane fetch quests to keep you busy. If you don’t want to take a break like someone else suggested, you could try to play a single player game with a definite ending. Even if it’s a short game that is only a couple of hours long, you might just need something that has a final cutscene/boss fight and then the credits roll.

Not really sure what games might interest you, but look into Turnip Boy Commits Tax Fraud for a short, 4-6 hour long fun adventure. Or TUNIC if you want something similar to a Dark Souls esque experience, without getting all sweaty and try-hard

That’s really odd, I’ve never heard of that before and I’ve never had any issues with Nexus but yeah. It looks like Nexus does block some email domains to prevent people from making tons of throwaway or alt accounts, which is kinda shitty.

Looks like GameBanana has some mods for New Vegas, but I am not sure if you will find everything you are looking for there. The vast majority of NV mods are hosted on Nexus. You could also trudge through the smut to see if you can find what you want on Lover’s Lab… but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I know my Nexus account is registered under a Gmail account if you want to try making a throwaway Gmail. Hopefully you’re able to find what you’re looking for!

Edit: wanted to add that there are also NV mods on ModDB

Age of Mythology. Literally Age of Empires but you pick between the Greek, Egyptian, and Norse pantheons and then prioritize which specific gods you want to worship for their favor.

I can’t think of any other games off the top of my head other than Smite, AoM, and the latest 2 God of War games that mix mythologies.

Isn’t it crazy that you have to murder and steal in a game like GTA V??? Wouldn’t the game be so much better if Franklin just got a regular 9-5 and you spent the entire game either sitting in traffic or sitting in a cubicle?

If your looking for a shooter with a flow state, give Neon White a look. It’s a FPS platformer where you pick up gun cards and you choose if you want to use the card as a gun to shoot demons, or throw it away for a movement ability (double jump, dash, etc.) as you try to get to the end of the level as fast as possible.

If the platforming and racing doesn’t sound like it’s for you, I saw someone else brought up Ultrakill and I wanted to recommend that as well

I think it’s cool that something like this is getting attention, but if every single “games journalist” is gonna write about it Sony is going to have to file a lawsuit against them

I’m really speaking for myself here, but my main issues were the micro transactions that are in the game. Before the game was released, it was announced that you can use real money to purchase wakestones to revive yourself, rift crystals to hire stronger pawns, a portcrystal to fast travel, and even to change your character’s appearance (as well as some other items). After the game’s release people quickly realized that buying these were not necessary at all and they could all be obtained easily through normal play, but the damage was already done. It left a sour taste in my mouth and made it seem like the devs or the publisher were not confident in the game and felt like they needed to add a way to milk some more cash out of the people who bought it.

Ain’t that some fucking clickbait. To save everyone else a click, there is no remaster. All the article says is that there is a chance that the PS5 Pro will raise the fps from 30 to 60. And the author is calling that a “remaster”

Any good games that break the mold

It feels like new games are just more of the same, with no real meaning. However I recently started playing “Return of the Obra Dihn” and love open ended deduction in it. It feels like I’m actually figuring things out by myself without being handheld through it. Are there any other games that don’t coddle the player that...

There’s 4 puzzle games called The Room that I found really interesting. It starts with a puzzle box that opens up with each solved puzzle to eventually reveal spaces within the box that are bigger than the box itself. There’s something supernatural about these puzzle boxes and you get little clues about where it came from and who made it.

    Absolute maidenless behavior.

Seriously tho, it’s really stupid. Not every game is meant to be enjoyed by every gamer, just like how not every book will not be enjoyed by every reader. If the devs are fine with excluding a potential group of audience members by making their game very difficult, then they should be allowed to do that. Unfortunately, I get that it sucks for the people that don’t have the time or skills to ‘git gud’ at a game like Elden Ring and they may feel like they wasted their money on it. However, it’s not like you can demand a refund at the movie theater because a movie you saw was confusing, not funny, or just not something you like.

This is definitely just my opinion, but to me it seems like Elden Ring and Dark Souls 3 were both popular enough that most people that play video games should know FromSoftware’s reputation for making very difficult games. If you haven’t played one of their games before, you should know that it’s a gamble as to weather you can even finish the game. But, my view on this might be pretty skewed as most people I talk to play a lot of video games

Just in case you are still curious, and I don’t see any actual answers here. The download provided is all the code for the game engine and everything else that would be going on in the background of the game. Anything that could be copyrighted by Nintendo (things like character and object models, textures, music, and environments) need to come from a totally legit dump from an official Nintendo cartridge and definitely not any ol’ .rom file you can download online

Just a quick question, why? Is it because Take2 or Rockstar will come after anyone that they think copied their code, or are there a lot of bad practices used in GTA5’s code?

Wasn’t one of the main selling points for the EGS that there would be strict quality control so only “good games” would be on this store? And now it will be filled to the brim with the worst shovelware anyone has ever seen.

That is, if this will actually happen. I feel like Sweeney found a couple of seconds away from Epic’s lawyers and is talking out of his ass
