alehel, do games w Hollow Knight: Silksong - Release Date Trailer (September 4)

Nice to see that it’s launching on GOG.

ZoteTheMighty, do games w Hollow Knight: Silksong - Release Date Trailer (September 4)

That trailer looks so good, it would have been worth it to wait all these years just for the trailer.

AwesomeLowlander,

I very much doubt you’d feel that way had they released the trailer and announced the game was coming in another 7 years

AstralPath, do games w METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER - Launch Trailer

I’m glad they re-made the worst entry in the early era of the series and didn’t fuck with Sons of Liberty. That game is literally perfect. MGS3 is tedious AF. Still fun and better than a lot of games, but massively overhyped. Also, worst fucking camera system in the history of gaming in the original PS2 version. Truly atrocious.

I hope it turns out well, but I still doubt that I’ll play it.

Fuck Konami for what they did to Kojima! As much as I loved MGS3, I will be skipping this.

That’s amazing news! I recently replaced hollow knight and have a long flight coming up in October, sounds like the perfect game to play.

Seven years of hype, it never going to live up too. Team Cherry did this to themselves.

alehel,

They’ve barely mentioned it. Any hype is from the fanbase.

Huh. That looks kinda interesting. It’s not a game I’m likely to buy, but I’m fascinated by the design of this. Thumbs up.

Wow. I gave up on waiting for that game years ago.

pyre, do games w Hollow Knight: Silksong - Release Date Trailer (September 4)

never got why they following is so massive. one of these super popular games that never really clicked for me. i mean it was fun but also felt run of the mill; i didn’t understand what’s so special about it.

dinckelman,

The atmosphere. The fluidity yet sharpness of combat. The emotional attachment to the story. The absolutely gorgeous level designs.

No game will be for everyone, and it’s okay if this one isn’t for you

pyre,

of course. i commented mostly to hear what people specifically like about it.

chaogomu,

The gameplay loop was solid, but not completely original.

But the lore of the world was interesting and was dolled out fairly well. Neat little chunks of lore that felt like a reward when you get them.

Add in great art and music, and you have a game that you can build a fan base on.

Add in the free expansions and fan friendly developer, and you get a robust fan base.

Which leads to expectations for the sequel.

mellow,

It’s one of the games that I’ve sunk too much time into during the pandemic. It’s got a special place in my heart. I think I’ve also purchased it on every platform available. It’s good. It’s tight.

prettybunnys,

I’m into my 5th decade of gaming and to me it wasn’t anything special, good game though.

However my son who was 8ish when he first played the first game ate it up, and I think it’s sort of for the same reason we have those same pedestals for our games from that age.

It’s a genuinely good game with an engaging story AND they dangled a carrot successfully for years.

pyre,

maybe it is about age then :)

nathanjent,

I think the soundtrack along with the challenging boss fights was the main appeal for me.

FishFace, do games w Elden Ring on Switch 2 Is a Disaster in Handheld Mode - IGN

I would never have thought to try to play Elden Ring on a handheld console, never mind a Switch (2).

wry,

It's actually a pretty decent experience on a Steam Deck. I definitely prefer having a larger screen, but it's very playable.

HubertManne,

I have only played elden ring on the steamdeck and it was fine. I completed both the main and the dlc.

FishFace,

A couple of days ago I started it using Steam remote play to the deck, just assuming that it would suck on Deck itself. Apparently it gets 40fps on low settings on Deck which is better than I expected but still kinda sucky.

HubertManne,

I mean I never checked the stats but the play was fine with me. im not exactly a l33t guy with a decked out tower, multi high end panels, and gaming peripherals though. Filthy casual.

TheRealKuni,

using Steam remote play to the deck

I’m going to pass on some advice that a friend of mine gave me: get Apollo (a fork of Sunshine) on your computer and Moonlight on your Steam Deck. You can install Moonlight in Desktop Mode and add it to your Steam Library so you can access it in Steam mode.

It’s far better at streaming than Steam’s own streaming system. Apollo treats it like a monitor on your desktop. I have it set up so that the Steam Deck is the ONLY monitor when I’m streaming to it. You can also specify resolution in Moonlight, so I tell it to give me 2560x1440 or 2560x1600. Because of the way chroma subsampling works, this looks much better when downscaled on the Deck’s screen than simply streaming the Deck’s resolution. Cyberpunk 2077 looks GORGEOUS on the Deck like this.

(Note this is best if your PC is on a wired connection to a router with WiFi 6/6E/7 support.)

FishFace,

Yeah I’m probably gonna try this at some point. At the moment I only have 802.11ac 5GHz though, so not as much bandwidth as WiFi 6+.

setsubyou,
@setsubyou@lemmy.world avatar

I played it on Steam Deck and it was fine. And the Switch 2 is more powerful than that, although it also has a much higher display resolution.

TheRealKuni,

although it also has a much higher display resolution.

I was about to say 1920x1080 isn’t that much higher resolution than 1280x800, but it’s twice as many pixels! 🤯

And 4K is 4x 1080p! No wonder 4K gaming makes graphics cards chug.

Skullgrid, do games w Hollow Knight: Silksong - Release Date Trailer (September 4)
@Skullgrid@lemmy.world avatar

OK, never played hollow knight. this seems to be a “sink one million hours into it and git gud” game, and I have an arcade stick that I’ve been dying to use constantly on a game with.

Does hollow knight use both analog sticks? can this be played with a standard 1 stick, 8 button arcade stick?

CaptDust,

It uses the second analog to pan the camera vertically. It’s not critical, but sometimes you will want to look around before you jump off a ledge.

BunScientist,

you can do that by holding the left stick for a while, you dont even need the right one unless you are in a hurry

CaptDust,

I was not aware! That’s good to know

JPAKx4,

Yeah, bind two to up/down on rstick and you’ll have plenty

oyo,

Use the keyboard like a real gamer.

Skullgrid,
@Skullgrid@lemmy.world avatar

drPterodactylFromSpiderman.jpg

But I don’t want to be a gamer, I want to feel like I’m playing a game at an arcade

BunScientist,

both sticks

no

1 sticks 8 buttons

yep, actually I use 9 keys but one of those is quick cast which really good for quick combat but it’s not actually needed since you have the same thing on the regular spell button, just a tad bit slower

dual_sport_dork,
@dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world avatar

It’s a melee oriented Metroidvania. Think Ori And The Blind Forest but with more insects and inexplicable frilly faux-Victorian edifices, and less pokey combat. You could play it on a SNES pad if you wanted to. I got to 100% on it back when using a cheap wireless keyboard from my couch.

I don’t know about you, but Hollow Knight’s main contribution to my household is that my wife and I still call any filigree wrought ironwork benches we see “save points.”

psx_crab,

You can do it without analog stick iirc, it’s very much designed for dpad.

kinship,

If it will be like the first it won’t be a wall of difficulty checks thrown in your way. What I liked most of Hollow Knight it was how masterly designed it was. It took you by your hand and thought every skill check you needed beforehand. You got good as you progressed. It it not frustrating as Dark Souls, it has a curve that kept increasing.
