Very excited for this, first person fantasy is an unfortunately rare combo

New gameplay looks good, a bit nicer than the last time we saw the game. I’m really hopeful.

brenticus, do games w Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Official Reveal Trailer

The art direction seems kind of off, but sometimes that can shake itself out in game.

The tone of the trailer is definitely not the Dragon Age vibe. Lighthearted Oceans-style crew selection to deal with what looks like some sort of world-ending calamity? Yeah, that’s not right.

Things could work out but I’m sure not feeling optimistic.

micka190,

They’ve been slowly going in that direction with the writing since DA2, unfortunately. Inquisition definitely had more of it than the other 2, but this is almost fanfiction-levels, honestly.

Zahille7,

Why do you think Varric is still around?

Blackmist, do games w DOOM: The Dark Ages | Official Trailer 1 (4K) | Coming 2025

I really liked the first reboot, but felt Eternal overcomplicated it and made it like a memory game of working out which gun was best for each enemy, which isn’t really what I wanted from it. Too much finicky precision (like shooting the goddamn turrets off things), and not enough wanton carnage.

It took the story way too seriously as well, and the most enjoyable thing from the first game’s story was somebody starting some exposition, followed by Doomguy smashing the radio.

Just wasn’t feeling it as much as I was with the first. It was only the soundtrack that got me through it tbh, and with Mick Gordon very much not on speaking terms with id Software, I’ll keep my expectations lowered for this.

TedZanzibar, do games w DOOM: The Dark Ages | Official Trailer 1 (4K) | Coming 2025

Meh. I was really hoping they’d go back to the sci-fi aesthetic of 2016 but instead they’ve doubled down on the weird high fantasy with guns thing.

It’s like they actually wanted to reboot Heretic/Hexen but they couldn’t get the license for it so they’ve just shoehorned it into Doom instead.

Odelay42,

Sorry it’s not going in the direction you hoped. I’m personally super into this vibe. Feels bizarre and different. Hopefully they capitalize on the theme and do something cool with it. If the “dragon” flight part is as tight and fun as recent Doom mechanics, it could be really fun.

uhN0id,

Agreed. I am not a fantasy fan for games really at all (with very few exceptions) but this looks so rad. The combination of tech and fantasy looks like a wild ride.

I cast non-magic missile

gaylord_fartmaster,

To me it feels like they’re leaning into more of a Quake 1 aesthetic, which I really like.

Funnily enough I never really liked that the quake sequels doubled down on the sci-fi so hard.

TedZanzibar,

Yeah honestly Eternal should’ve been a Quake reboot using the new engine rather than a Doom sequel. Everything about it felt like Quake.

trslim,

Yeah i really prefer the lovecraft aesthetic of Quake 1 over the tech, body horror of the sequels. Science coming into contact with something that defies science and reason is one of my favorite genres of fiction. The Myst, Event Horizon, Doom (especially Doom 3,) and the newest Rimworld dlc all really scratch that itch of coming into contact with something outside of reality, outside of reason and understanding. Really wish for more of that.

Caligvla,
@Caligvla@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah, I kind of agree. I wish they’d make a new Quake or something, Doom is cool and all but this barely resembles it. Eternal was fun, but too goofy and campy, Doom 2016 did it perfectly.

Jyrdano,

Damn, rebooted Heretic or Hexen would be cool as hell.

Amid Evil totally scratched that itch, plus it’s a huge game so there’s hours of quality content too.

For sure Mick Gordon esque music but definitely not him, it’s missing his specific touch

domi,
@domi@lemmy.secnd.me avatar

Definitely will wait for the full soundtrack to release before checking out the game. That trailer music sounded pretty weak.

Prandom_returns,

The difference in music between Eternal and Ancient Gods was too big for me. I didn’t feel compelled to play the Ancient Gods at all, instead just replayed Eternal.

MrPoopbutt,

Tag1 was really good and is worth a shot if you want some really difficult doom. Tag2 suffered hugely from being developed during the pandemic.

Glad to see David Hayter is still the voice actor

Katana314,

My question is, is he actively recording, or did they just do an audio touch-up on his old lines?

RightHandOfIkaros, do games w METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER - Official Trailer #1

I hate that it looks so good without Kojimas involvment. Then again, its a remake and everything needed is already there.

clubb,
@clubb@lemmy.world avatar

It looks more like a remaster, doesn’t it?

RightHandOfIkaros,

It does, and I am happy for that. I wish more remakes would be close to remasters like this.

Literally just beef up the graphics a bit, update some minor but essential gameplay mechanics, and send it.

warmaster, do games w DOOM: The Dark Ages | Official Trailer 1 (4K) | Coming 2025

I’ll just keep my excitement at bay until Micrisoft proves they didn’t fuck it up by something like requiring a constant online connection for the single player campaign like Black Ops 6.

How do you say this? Meatal gear solid delta?

newtraditionalists, do gaming w Perfect Dark - Gameplay Reveal - Xbox Games Showcase 2024

Perfect Dark revolutionized the multi-player experience, and had an equally awesome campaign. The 360 game was good, but nothing amazing. Really hoping this turns out to be amazing. I have faith that it will!

caseyweederman,

Goldeneye (1997), Perfect Dark (2000)
Perfect Dark was a great game, but the multiplayer was a copy/paste of the game whose engine it was built in, no?

uninvitedguest,
@uninvitedguest@lemmy.ca avatar

My memory is fuzzy, but Perfect Dark had bots, while Goldeneye did not?

Perfect dark also had a greater number of modes/settings.

caseyweederman,

Right, but… It totally revolutionized a thing that already existed by applying incremental improvements?
Oh, cooperative campaign would be very substantial, wouldn’t it? And you could play as her sister.

newtraditionalists,

Perfect Dark introduced bots and a host of other customizable options that Golden Eye did not have. Golden Eye created the framework, and Perfect Dark improved on it in every possible way.

Defaced, do games w Dragon Age: The Veilguard | Official Reveal Trailer

Wtf was that…? I’m going to reserve judgement until we see some gameplay but damn that trailer was filled with cliche modern marvel movie bullshit.

CrabAndBroom,

This makes me a lot more worried about the upcoming Mass Effect too. I can fully see the marketing department being like “this is our Guardians Of The Galaxy!” and giving it the same treatment.

Bogusmcfakester, (edited ) do games w DOOM: The Dark Ages | Official Trailer 1 (4K) | Coming 2025

I trust ID to make a fun game, I do not trust Microsoft however so we’ll see how hands off they’ve been. Hopefully it was too far along for Microsoft to meddle with anything.

UnPassive,

Probably gonna have a season pass and battle royale mode

turmacar,

Doom 2016 and Eternal had multiplayer season stuff, but it could easily be ignored.

CrowAirbrush, do games w Starfield: Shattered Space - Official Trailer

I saw this pop up in steam, tbh i gave up on starfield after playing through it once.

Took about 70 hours to get bored and annoyed with seeing more loading screens than gameplay.

Xantar,

I’d argue 70 hours is a pretty high tolerance for boredom then.

CrowAirbrush,

I was very tickled having a modern but familiar “stealth archer” build in the shape of a stealth sniper.

I just expected more from the game in the long run.

Katana314,

I guess it makes sense to give more rope to Skyrim’s creators, but…it seems more like those creatives have long since moved on.

Xantar,

Idk maybe it’s just me but I feel like people give Bethesda a little too much unwarranted goodwill, and I don’t get why.
