I don’t get why they needed a 14 day limit. Sounds half baked to me. Steam, although with its own limitations, still does a better job at game sharing.
Serious question: What makes Dragon Quest special? I’ve played turn based RPGs from that era and there never really seems to be any distinguishing characteristics between them
This, and it’s THE big traditional JRPG franchise in Japan itself, as big as or bigger than Final Fantasy. FF just happened to have more worldwide appeal.
I like both, Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger are still good. Recently did some digging in the videogame history RPG’s and Mother(Earthbound) was one of the first if not the first in this style looking back it does look like a template game.
I admit I haven’t played too much of either Dragon Quest or FF. I have a bit more experience with FF (I’ve at least started playing 1, 7 and 10). I’ve only played Dragon Quest III, currently going through its HD-2D remake and enjoying it decently enough. If I like it enough when I finish it maybe I’ll pick up I and II as well.
It’s comfort food. Never pushing the envelope much, but always high quality.
Note that the first game came out in 1986. These remakes will look great and put some modern conveniences on… But it will still be a game from 1986. If you want a modern DQ then 11 is great.
Right now you can absolutely share digital games. You do need to have your account logged in on both machines and only the one where your "main" account sits can play the games offline.
This seems both easier and harder? There are now arbitrary time limits and per-game activations, which seems like a massive mess. Before the only limit was that a game couldn't be played in two places at once and that secondary consoles needed to stay online.
But conversely, the "main account" thing was annoying for a portable, so if you shared with someone that carried their console around outside the house it kinda required giving THEM the main account with all the games and keeping the secondary for yourself. This is a very parent-like situation to be in. So... that's better?
The worry here is that this sure seems like setting the groundwork to give up on physical media altogether without messing with the way people use Nintendo portables, and that is a bad thing overall. Given Nintendo's dumb, litigious approach towards these things they're getting no benefit of the doubt from me in this area.
In Darktide its always 12 Waves, at the beginning you choose a focus ( Indulgence) which dictates the character of the buffs you receive throughout your run. (think buffs to melee/ ranged, survivability, etc.) You receive a random minor buff every round in accordance with the Indulgence you chose at the beginning, and every 4 rounds you choose a major buff out of three presented to you (also in accordance with your chosen indulgence).
The mode is pretty fun, though the fact that there are currently only 2 maps lets it get stale pretty quick imo
Looks more impressive with its features than I thought from previous previews, but man they really can’t hide it chugging with the frame rate for these open areas in motion…
