deus,

Huh, I thought this would be about a new device. I guess Anbernic’s release schedule has spoiled me.

I think Sims is a dead franchise now angielski

After being incredibly disappointed by the release of Sims 4, I was someone holding out hope for Sims 5 that they would have realized, “Hey, people really didn’t want us to do anything multiplayer in Sims 4. Maybe that means we should go back and make an actual good Sims game?” But instead, we get this awful news that Sims...

deus,

The fact that there aren’t many alternatives likely means that making a Sims-like game isn’t as simple as it looks. That being said, there are a bunch of life sims under developement right now (probably because EA is doing a terrible job) such as Paralives, Inzoi and Alterlife.

deus,

It becomes even more impressive when you remember how many amazing games came out in 2023. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pikmin 4, Street Fighter 6, Alan Wake 2, The Talos Principle 2, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, Final Fantasy XVI, Hi-Fi Rush, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Lies of P, Pizza Tower, most of these would win GOTY if they had come out this year instead.

deus,

Retro gaming gives you all of the joy of gaming without any of the drama and toxicity so it’s no wonder the community is so nice.

deus, (edited )

Interesting. I never finished The Witness but I got some solid 10h of entertainment out of it before I stopped having fun. I’d say it is a brilliantly well designed game that’s well worth the price if you are into puzzles.

deus,

I couldn’t disagree more. Other than Pokémon their first-party releases have been pretty much flawless this generation, it’s arguably the strongest lineup of games any Nintendo console has ever seen. There’s a reason the Switch is currently in route to become the best selling console of all time. That’s not an excuse to their legal team shenanigans, of course, but credit where credit is due.

deus,

Why, just because I decided to leave my honest opinion instead of trashing Nintendo like every other comment here? I can see where people are coming from with their complaints but to say Nintendo’s games have been disappointing is absurd. Yes, there are other factors contributing to these sales numbers, and none of them would matter at all if the Switch didn’t also have great games on it.

New Details on Valve's New Game 'Deadlock' - Insider Gaming (insider-gaming.com) angielski

As already leaked, the game is a 6v6 third-person hero-based shooter. Heroes include magicians, robots, creatures, humans, and more. There are currently 19 different heroes, each with different abilities and playstyles that you’d come to expect from a MOBA including ranged, healers, tanks, assassins, etc....

deus,

Nah, I’m excited as well. It’s not really my kind of game but I can’t complain about getting something new from Valve.

deus,

I thought they were making Windblown?

deus,

At this rate in a couple years there’ll be nothing left of all those studios they bought recently.

deus,

The thing is, One Piece does get exponentially bigger and better as the story unfolds but if you don’t like it from the start then it probably just isn’t for you.

EA just added classics like Dungeon Keeper, SimCity 3000, and Populous on Steam (www.theverge.com) angielski

There hasn’t been a lot of good news out of EA lately, but here’s some: the company just launched a bunch of classic games on Steam. The new (old) releases include nine games in total, spanning franchises like Dungeon Keeper, Populous, and SimCity....

deus,

Same here, Sim City 3000 and The Sims were my jam and I still listen to their soundtracks every once in a while, they’re so good. There was something truly magical about Maxis back then.

deus,

There’s a guy making an ATLA fangame for quite some time now.

deus,

All 4 of them, really. Those games are made of hard decisions. Also QTEs, but mostly hard decisions.

deus,

Nevermind the logos, what even are those titles? All the current ones sound like working titles they forgot to change to something more interesting before release

deus,

I bet MS agrees with you which is probably why they’ve bought Bethesda and Activision Blizzard.

deus,

Writers, no matter how good, are just regular people. I have much higher expectations and not as much patience towards a game studio with infinite money and no released games whatsoever in over a decade.

deus,

On PC I must’ve spent thousands of hours playing The Sims, the first and second ones. They had fantastic soundtracks and were very chill experiences where you couldn’t really lose and didn’t rely on reflexes or strategy. Above all else I’ve always enjoyed being able to build cool houses. I would barely even play with the Sims themselves, I was mostly just creating families to not leave my houses empty. I had entire neighbourhoods made from scratch, all with wildly different houses with wildly different people living in them. I lost all my data a couple of times but I always kept the CD around with the key code written on it so I’d just reinstall and start rebuilding from scratch (that disc is probably still in my bedroom somewhere). Just selecting an empty lot and spending an entire afternoon building a cool house on it, then making a family to live there and putting all the furniture in place. Rinse and repeat, life was good.

I’d later go on to play other games that allowed me to build stuff trying to scratch that same creative itch. Mostly other Maxis games such as SimCity 3000 and Spore (never got into Sims 3 as it didn’t run well on my PC) but also Minecraft, which was all the rage and would go on to consume countless hours of my life. A few years later I also tried Sims 4, which did run well (on a newer computer tbf), but also felt so limited with the small fixed-view non-customizable neighbourhoods. It’s baffling to me that 4 couldn’t have the same features 2 had a decade earlier. Oh well, at least the building tools are much better than 2’s, so there was that.

Tl;dr: I like The Sims. The first couple ones, not the last couple ones.

deus,

Amazon are also rumoured to be working on a Steam competitor, called “Vapor”

Oh great, yet another launcher.
