RightHandOfIkaros, (edited ) do gaming w Silent Hill 2 remake hits PS5 and PC on October 8

I am disappointed in what Konami and Blooper have done, but I am not surprised honestly. Lots of absolutely pointless changes, and they completely trashed Angela’s face. Why remove Maria’s leapord print skirt? There is literally no reason to change it. Completely changed first encounter, completely different hospital map layout, its not even the same game anymore. At least RE2 Remake had like 80-90% mostly the same or very similar content. This made Gans’ movie look more faithful than the remake, that is what I would consider a problem.

Oh well, first Ascension was bad, then Short Message was bad, now SH2 is looking not so great, maybe Silent Hill f will be different.

Actually, Silent Hill f is my last hope.

If this works and releases at a reasonable price this just may convince me to buy a PSVR2.

Bad apple in bacteria when?

MajorHavoc, do gaming w Here’s a video of Doom running on gut bacteria, proving you really can play the game on anything

“To be blunt, the frame rate is atrocious, likely due to the fact that bacteria were never intended to display 3D video games. It takes 70 minutes for the bacteria to illuminate one frame of the game and another eight hours to return to its starting state. This translates to nearly nine hours per frame, which means it would take around 600 years to play display the game from start to finish.”

Made me giggle, anyway.

heavy, do gaming w Here’s a video of Doom running on gut bacteria, proving you really can play the game on anything

If I arranged a bunch of rocks to show the DOOM logo, would someone say I was running DOOM on stones?

Nonsense click bait, non-news article. If there’s an actual achievement here, it’s overshadowed by the misinformation.

Dirk_Darkly,

Did you just equate turning living organisms into a monitor with arranging rocks?

heavy,

Living organisms into a monitor… In the same way that a bunch of people in a stadium can hold up squares that make up an image? I mean at the end of the day almost anything can be made into a “monitor”. That doesn’t mean it’s “running DOOM”.

HandBash,

Yeah it’s more like displaying a picture of the doom intro screen rather than actually computing it. Still cool but vastly different than computing the drawing functionality of the game.

nephs,

Can packed silicon zapped with direct current be compared to a bunch of rocks arranged in a specific way?

The title is misleading and the article even points it out. She is displaying Doom (which is still cool and kinda fucking crazy) on bacteria. It is not being processed by the bacteria.

Rudee,

The day we can use biocomputers like that is when criminals start hiding URLs in their DNA to rickroll the police chasing them

breakingcups,

Fuck rickrolls, I’d hide the EICAR test string and watch their lab computers lock up whenever they try to process my sample.

gullible, do games w Unity cuts 265 jobs as part of a company 'reset'

What exactly did unity have so many employees for? I’ve only just realized that I don’t know what their company does, besides develop a game engine.

Immersive_Matthew,

Given how stagnant the engine has been over the years, I wonder the same thing. So many people over there yet so little value being added to their game engine.

BURN,

They offer enterprise level support for their engine and also have a lot of mobile focused development. They have their own in house ad provider and dedicated a bunch of man power to monetizing mobile as much as possible

ArmoredThirteen,

Don’t forget the contracts with the military to help train them to “definitely not kill people”!

sebinspace,

Military does a lot more than just going around killing people, I sincerely hope this is a thing you understand, please tell me you’re aware…

Comexs,

I think they bought some comany that could help them get into the CG movie sence like what unreal is doing with disney and the likes. The new CEO is try to focusing on the gaming aspect of untiy so they are selling off some parts of the acquisition. I think they mostly kept the IP but are liquidating everything else.

He was? I hadn’t heard anything like that-- Can you point me to some reading?

smeg,

They’ve been making people redundant left right and centre for the last few years. They overstretched and overhired after going public and are now being bitten by recession and terrible decisions, of which the recent licence fiasco is just one.

zib,
@zib@kbin.social avatar

That's it exactly. In addition to over-hiring during COVID, the massive spending spree from a ton of over-inflated, short-sighted acquisitions ever since the IPO absolutely demolished the company's budget. Cutting Weta Digital was only the tip of this latest iceberg.

More and more I am just like “SELF-HOST ALL THE THINGS”. I’ve been setting up Wake-On-Lan and using Steam Remote Play to satisfy my game streaming needs and it’s better than GeForce Now in many respects. Plus there’s no game limitations.

I get that it isn’t a perfect replacement for those who don’t want to drop the insane amounts of cash on a GPU these days though.
