RobotZap10000, do gaming w A game, or series of, you believe belongs in a museum?
@RobotZap10000@feddit.nl avatar

Disco Elysium. I don’t think that I need to explain why.

acron,

I could actually use an explanation. I’m not familiar, what makes it so good?

RobotZap10000,
@RobotZap10000@feddit.nl avatar

It’s the only visual novel I’ve ever played, but it excels so much at it. The writing, worldbuilding, characters, narrator, and overall “vibe” are fantastically superb. It’s also another one of those games that I can’t help but play for ~5 hours nearly every day until I finish it. I’m no video game connoisseur, so you can find more sophisticated reviews elsewhere. You can pick it up on GOG for like €10 half of the time.

mohab,

Hate to break it to you, but you still haven't played any visual novel because Disco Elysium is a CRPG.

A visual novel would be VA-11 HALL-A or Milk Outside a Bag of Milk Outside a Bag of Milk.

RobotZap10000,
@RobotZap10000@feddit.nl avatar

You’re right, but I thought that it was one of those visual novels because I had to have a dictionary at hand to understand half of the words.

outhouseperilous,

It’s so deep abd so complicated, and blurs the line between literary and mechanical so expertly, that i cannot explain it without spoiling it.

Its very good, very literary, and about solving a murder. Your skills are your character’s inner monologue, and they’re all useful, but ypure kind of choosing what clues and what sort of language you get them in, how you interact with and literally read the world.

So play it, play it without reading anything else about it, and when picking skills, go with what you respond to or what character you want your detective to be. ‘Phillip marlowe’ ‘sherlock holmes’ and ‘dirk gently’ are pretty close to the three pre-sets.

orenj, do games w What are the best free mmorpgs for a beginner?
@orenj@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Warframe is an unconventional mmo, and there’s actually a bit of rpg in there too, moreso than I would’ve expected coming in. It’s great fun though.

I will say the mandatory trading for weapon and frame slots is kinda annoying, but gets less annoying as you progress and get more access to better grinds.

Nighed,

A simple and earnest request to all Warframe players. Please Change. Your. Keybindings.

Damn near broke my pinky from pressing ctrl for bullet jumping. Had to change movement keys to ESDF and ctrl key to A.

Dont actually like playing frames where only 1 ability was viable, but I knew some who did. They’d bind that particular ability to the mouse wheel.

burgerpocalyse, do games w Does anyone else find it suspicious that there wasn't any criticism on here about Stop Killing Games until after it hit 1.4M signatures?

Toes, do gaming w Linux users: Are we over-reliant on Steam?

You should be able to select “GE-Proton(Latest)” as your runner in Lutris. But if its missing for some reason, github.com/gloriouseggroll/proton-ge-custom

I haven’t noticed any major issues between using Lutris and Steam for the games I play.

henfredemars,
@henfredemars@infosec.pub avatar

Lutris is definitely the strongest contender, and is mostly based on the same compatibility technology.

entropicdrift,

Meh, I like Heroic better personally. It’s a preference thing at this point between the two of em IMO

SweetCitrusBuzz,
@SweetCitrusBuzz@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah, Heroic is good but sadly it only supports gog and epic. Not everything is from those stores, sadly. Whereas Lutris supports a lot more sources.

entropicdrift,

It supports GoG, Epic, and Amazon, but it also supports installing games manually, which has worked for literally everything else for me so far.

I used to use Lutris, but in the last year or so Heroic got so good I stopped ¯_(ツ)_/¯

SweetCitrusBuzz,
@SweetCitrusBuzz@beehaw.org avatar

Ah, okay, thanks for the correction!

slauraure,
@slauraure@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah, it’s been at least five years since I tried Lutris last time. It’s probably matured alongside Proton. Honestly I started moving all my non-Linux games over to Linux after getting a Steam deck and seeing how well the games worked without tinkering.

I don’t mind leaving my Steam games in Steam but I would like to run some of my Windows titles e.g. GOG titles, Guild Wars without relying on the Steam network being up. Is Heroic the way to go?

swab148,

If Heroic doesn’t work, Bottles is usually my go-to for GOG games.

ampersandrew, do games w The EU initiative for Stop Killing Games has reached the goal of 1 million signatures!!
@ampersandrew@lemmy.world avatar

About my lowest threshold for success is that this at least makes disclosures about what you’re buying more prominent and restricts the ability for software licenses to just alter the deal and pray that they don’t alter them further. Even better disclosures would make the raw deal you’re getting become more poisonous before the point of sale. Especially as an American, I’m going to have wait a few years after any legislation goes through before I can trust online multiplayer games again.

garretble, do games w Old gamers don't understand what mobile gaming has become
@garretble@lemmy.world avatar

I just feel bad for a lot of kids because maybe their phone or tablet has the game they want but often they are playing using just the touchscreen and that interface sucks for anything that requires joystick or button controls (where the touchscreen just has vague areas with pretend joysticks and buttons).

It just does.

I get that kids get used to it, but it’s like getting used to being kicked in the nuts when you have the option of not being kicked in the nuts.

gegil, do games w A game you "didn't know it was bad 'til people told you so"?

For me it was war thunder. Seen this game advertised on youtube a while ago, and about year ago i decided to just install it and see what this game is. Firstly i liked it. It was fun game to play. After some time of playing this game, i wanted to see videos of this game on youtube, and thats where i found a lot of criticizm for this game. Only after hitting about 60 hours of total playtime, i started understanding the hate for this game myself. I did not played war thunder ever since. For context, the main reason for hate to this game is that it is too grindy, and it will take hundreds of hours to reach top tier, even with premium account.

Saleh,

I remember having a lot of fun in the first two or three tiers of war thunder. But then the higher tiers hit, everything gets way too fast and you have to deal with too many sweaters.

RisingSwell,

Can confirm, several hundred hours in and I have like, 3 usable jets with missiles. And I deliberately rushed the shortest tech line to get them faster. And Im basically permanent premium.

How the fuck is a free player meant to do it

augustus672,

That’s the neat part, you aren’t! Gaijin 100% expects you to pay to get to top tier.

frenchfryenjoyer,
@frenchfryenjoyer@lemmings.world avatar

it’s very pay to win. it feels good to play at first then your progress stagnates to the point of frustration and paying players get put in the same matches as non paying players. paying players get access to entirely new planes and upgrades and they always kill me soon after i spawn.

AlexanderTheDead, do games w PC Gaming’s Mascot Squad—who makes the cut?

As a pc gamer, I disagree with the premise. PC gaming doesn’t have a mascot squad because PC Gaming isn’t a monolith, whereas Nintendo (or Xbox or Playstation) is.

You want THE PC gaming mascot? It’s Steve from Minecraft. No other character, not even Doom Guy, comes even remotely close.

    Coelacanth, do games w Blue Prince - Have you played it? How blown is your mind?
    @Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

    I played it obsessively for a solid month or so following its release. One of the best puzzle games ever and still a GOTY contender for me.

    I know some people didn’t like the RNG, but for me it never became a real big problem. You get some control over the randomness eventually, and I also just found the drafting part of the game enjoyable in itself.

    Piecing together the story and the world building bit by bit and uncovering the mystery was also super enjoyable. It’s one of the most rewarding games ever for note-takers. So much so that keeping physical notes in a journal was like half my enjoyment.

    SilverShark,

    I did find a few ways to control the randomness, but I’m wondering if there are many more? I basically got:

    spoilerThe Coat Check where you can leave an item, and I think the well at the entrance of the mansion where you can drop a coin per day which increases your… luck or something?

    Coelacanth,
    @Coelacanth@feddit.nu avatar

    There are several more. Some examples (light spoilers):

    spoilerPick any room upgrades that give you extra dice. There are also two items that let you reroll, though they aren’t the easiest to acquire (but can be Coat Checked!). I also recommend looking into the Sheet Music puzzle.

    There are some other ways to reroll or affect RNG, but I don’t know how to hint at them without spoiling too much.

    SilverShark,

    spoilerOh I think I’ve seen something about sheet music but have no idea about. The dice and such are indeed practical.

    Thanks!
