CodexArcanum, do games w Visions of Mana - Review Thread

I started a replay of Legend of Mana a while back. I love that game so much, but I haven’t been keeping up with the new releases. I know they did a big remake of SD3 not too long ago, and now a big new game! Anyone playing it?personal thoughts?

simple,

I haven’t played it but there is a free demo for it if you’d like to check it out yourself.

arc the lad 2 twilight of spirits. Not the arc the lad series but the stories and themes explored in the particular game 2

+1 for Populous.

But my answer to this every time is Red Faction (1, specifically. While I did enjoy Guerrilla, I want to see a throw back to more fully destructible environments on next gen tech).

Panzer Dragoon. I only played and finished Panzer Dragoon Orta for the XBox when it came out. I tried the included original game, but I had a hard time telling depth and perception with the old graphics.

I’d like them to give ‘Z’ (Bitmap Brothers) another go.

The Darkness.

Jackie Estacado fought through hell to save his girlfriend only for her to get bad touched by an angel and fly away leaving him there to Rot.

We never got to see that story finished.

HollowNaught, (edited ) do games w It genuinely upsets me that Valve spent their time and resources on another Dota variation

Got access to it a few days ago. I played it for a few hours. Here’s my take:

It’s just a tps dota

Now, I don’t mind that too much. My problem is with the plethora of issues combat has

  1. Despite there being damage falloff, you are directly decentivised from fighting in close range. This is because you both have little minions on both sides that attack the enemy and heal you. Why would you jump into that? Why would you give up your source of healing?
  2. It’s way too easy to retreat. So you just poked and prodded the enemy for 3-4 minutes, finally got into a favourable position, pushed in, and they’re already on the zipline out of there. Sure, this is good for you, you can attack their sentinel. But attacking their sentinel isn’t fun. It just stands there and attacks your minions. You’re punished too much for dying, why would you risk it?
  3. The stun abilities are atrocious. Picture this: you and an enemy found each other without support. You’re deep in a close range firefight, having fun for once in the game. Then this rando pokes their head around a corner, stuns you, and you’re dead before the stun ends. Why is this in any game?
  4. Most hero weapons feel like you’re shooting wet paper towels. The majority of them are fast-shooting, but not in a good CS way. More like “I sincerely hope this is changed and these are just placeholders” way. The few that actually feel good to play (such as the girl with the green arm or the greaser dude) either lack damage in general or damage in mid-long range fights, the majority of the game

The most fun I had in this game had nothing to do with objectives or lanes or teamwork. It was when I was going between lanes and found an enemy doing the same, causing a close ranged battle. Makes me wish they just made this as another TF2

Templa, do gaming w Just finished Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 was our GOTY last year. The story was amazing, the game was polished… I didn’t hate Baldur’s Gate 3, but we played it on couch co-op and the experience was very unpleasant (plus the Act 3 was very unfinished).

Telorand, do gaming w Just finished Alan Wake 2

Does it play like the first one? If so, I’ll just go read a plot synopsis. The gameplay was so dull and frustrating for me in the first one, but the story was good.

chloyster,

I find the game plays a lot better than the first one. I played the remaster recently and found it a bit of a slog to get through but absolutely adored the sequel

Telorand,

Good to know! Thanks

ModernRisk, (edited )

The gameplay is similar/ the same. You have a light and a gun/ shotgun. Though the game is much more about the immensely dark atmosphere, storytelling and characters played in it. Honestly the game has some great shock-moments. I played it in PC with mouse and keyboard and the controls were (butter) smooth in my opinion.

Don’t forget the very first Alan Wake was released in 2010. So the gameplay will feel dull and lackluster in comparison to todays gaming standards. It’s unfair to compare the two games due to the amount of years and technological advancements of today.

You can watch a video or read synopsis but you’ll do yourself a disservice.

EDIT: changed ‘‘fill’’ to ‘‘feel’’

Telorand,

Thanks! I’m no stranger to old games, so I don’t hold the age against the first one. I just know I wouldn’t have fun if the actual gameplay (not the story elements) was largely the same.

I might watch someone play the first hour only, to see if it fits my playstyle.

teawrecks,

Totally agree that the first one’s gameplay doesn’t hold up. The second is a HUGE step up. Night and day difference.

Telorand,

Oh, good. Might be worth a look, then

I really loved playing ps2 military shooters like SOCOM and Conflict Desert Storm. It would be fun to see how those games would be made today.

FluorideMind,

There was a mod for og insurgency about 8 years ago remaking socom it was really good.
