@knokelmaat Not sure if it's a certain category, but here are some that really made me so:

  • Stardew Valley
  • Life is Strange (for now I only played the first series)
  • Memoranda
  • Tiny Echo

I'll edit the list when I remember more.

Alpha Protocol. A spy RPG released by Obsidian. I’ve only really gotten past the tutorial so far and I have no idea if I’m going to enjoy it. It uses the Fallout 4/LA Noire style dialogue system where you don’t really know what your character is going to say that I really hate.

That game is worth putting up with its jank. You may not know exactly what the character is going to say, but each option is always channeling either James Bond, Jack Bauer, or Jason Bourne.

So far it’s been pretty good. I find the patrols NPCs do a little odd. Kind of jerky and I can never really tell if they are going to see me. There haven’t been a lot of super unexpected outbursts from the protagonist thankfully so I feel like you might be right. Everything has been pretty subtle. I’m not choosing the Aggressive option and just having the protagonist responding with “Fuck you”.

I always say that the Mad Max video game is my comfort game, and it's very much true. For me there's just something so relaxing and enjoyable about just driving across the wasteland, going from site to site gathering scrap and taking down camps. It always puts me in a better mood.

Heat VR. Not even for the adult content; just staring into the character’s eyes or mussing their hair is incredibly relaxing.

VRChat, too, but since those are all real people you can’t just necessarily go around admiring them up close since it would disrupt their experience. Just as rude IRL, imo.

VIntage Story one of the coziest games around.

On the SNES: Star Fox and TMNT 4 turned in time.

On PC it’s probably gonna be Space Quest 3 and Star Wars X-WING Alliance.

stardust, do games w What games do you recommend for my girlfriend?

Dark Picture games with it being coop and story driven so easier for new comers to get into with less reflexes being involved.

AgentGrimstone, do gaming w If you could only play on one game console for the rest of your life which console would you choose?

PS5. I simply can’t go back to long loading screens.

Why not go NES?

  • Mindustry. It’s easy Factorio.
  • The Trine Games.
  • Warframe maybe.
  • Portal 2.
  • Dungeon Defenders 2 maybe.
daddy32,

Mindustry can also be had for free.

My wife wanted to check out gaming and tried many of the games mentioned here. Only two landed in any real way. Unpacking and animal crossing. Neither need you to really understand how to game very much. Unpacking especially. If you know how to move elements on a desktop, you can fully play unpacking. She filled each save file on it and adores it.

I’ve been replaying Dragon Quest 8 (PS2) on my Steam Deck, and it just fills me with joy. Except for the absolutely bonkers choices they hardcoded for buttons and camera movement. Ah, good times.

Not exactly sure what the server limits are but something like Valheim could work for a large group of people. It’s an open world sandbox so people can divide up and do whatever they want to on the same server (exploring, fighting, mining, building, farming, etc.) Not sure how far you can get in the game in 3 hours though…

Alternatively you could play some sort of team based shooter but there might be a stark skill difference in a competitive setting.

Apparently the star wars bf classic collection has a 32 player co-op mode vs ai which sounds amazing to me, but I’ve never tried it before

Not really emulation but my vita and 3ds are still so fun to this day. Both consoles, especially the vita, had so much more potential

YuzuDrink,

I’m with you for 3DS. Vita was kind of a dead gen for me at the time—what are some of your favorites?

Secret300,

For a while it’s just been a kingdom hearts machine because I hate fucking chibis and so many 3DS games are chibis except kingdom hearts. I’ve started playing Xenoblade now and soon I’m gonna try to get into monster hunter. I already have 4-5 hours into monster hunter 4 but still have 0 idea what I’m doing
