Ah yes, young men. That notoriously healthcare obsesses group of individuals that do all they can to drain the system of all its funding. That’s the problem.

It’s a shame people actually fall for blatant lies like this.

I distinctly remember playing co-op and having the second player open the map in borderlands 1 while driving around as a pseudo mini map. As much as ‘those were the days’, I don’t yearn for them back.

Now, having various UI elements as toggles I could totally get behind.

I noted the issues with gearbox near the end of the borderlands 2 cycle and put them on my ‘I’ll buy it when it drops down to under $10 for everything’ category.

I have posted a fully compiled list for 2 that put me off further first day spending posted somewhere. I’m sure I could find it if needed.

Instead of going to find it… I’ll just do my best to list it from memory (and it’s not going to be complete)

  • ammo economy in general was ruined from the first game. The entire ‘guardian’ legendary weapon set were removed, and most class mods no longer have any ammo regeneration unless certain characters. Lots of guns now shoot multiple bullets per shot, making this problem even worse.
  • Backpack space was lowered from the first game, while equippables was increased. Overall space was increased with the bank included… but not by much. I think the difference is 2.
  • The rock, paper, scissors health types first introduced in the general knoxx DLC were really leaned into really hard, which means it’s very handy to have a weapon of each element type on your person.

These three were my major issues. It’s a LOOTER SHOOTER. I need to LOOT and SHOOT. These three points made it more of a chore to do the base game loop at higher levels, especially considering that most characters had only a couple preferred weapon types. Combining all three points meant I was usually balancing 3 weapons of different types so the ammo didn’t overlap with different elements so I could effectively shoot fleshy, shielded, and armored enemies… and then sometimes slag.

There are some other gripes about the skill trees being overall worse than the first game, the DLC’s eluding to the best fights from 1 and being really disappointing (looking at you Crawmerex), and the lack of any real changes in the enemies from the first game. Sure there were plenty of new skins, but the actions didn’t change at all.

I’m sure there were more, but these points were enough to show me that the dev team was moving in a direction I wasn’t particularly excited to play. The story and most boss fights were way better than 1’s. So there was some positive growth, but in terms of overall gameplay I felt that the game was a massive downturn from where I would have liked to see the game go.

They don’t have any dlc lined up yet so not being to sell you empty promises on top of a normal game price is really tugging at Randy’s purse strings.

Amazingly… this bond is almost exclusively going to be used on bug planets… since the weapons are melee focused and going melee vs bots or squids is not a great idea.

Now they’re made with marketable ‘passion’, ‘dedication’, and a team with ‘a family atmosphere’. My personal favorite ‘respect for the lore and previous games in the series’ definitely never has made a triple A game worse for wear.

Disingenuous buzzwords with no objective meaning behind them are my favorite things to hear in a game. It tells me to steer clear as far away as I possibly can. Which is a shame because I’d like to be excited about vampire: the masquerade 2.

I’ve been finishing up random challenges in monster hunter wilds. There’s not much left on the ‘achievable without rng shenanigans’ list for me to get, so I’ve started planning for the next one.

Metal bringer. It’s a looter rogue lite in which you play as the daughter of amazing science family whose legacy has been besmirched or something, causing you to have to get out into a world of bots that need some good 'sploding.

The game loop eventually leads to starting with a massive mech and trashing the early game. The boss designs and weapons are really nice though some of the areas give me a headache.

As much as I’d have liked it to be some kind of active or skill based game, it was either going to be webfishing or revolution idle.

I recently picked up secrets of grindea, but after having binged it for a few days, I’m grinded out. I need to earn so much gold if I want to collect all the things and it feels like my combat power has hit a wall. There are a few non-grind things I could tackle, but I’ll just wait a bit and let burnout go away.

I had heard absolutely nothing about Secrets of Grindea, but it looks like a game that’s right up my alley, so it’s been grabbed.

It was definitely the first persistent survival game that taught me I don’t have the time or energy for that genre.

I hate when a PC game is ONLY available on Epic Games store (lemmy.world)

Nothing more disappointing to me than seeing a game I might enjoy… and then it’s only available on PC on Epic Games store. Why can’t it be available on Epic, Xbox game store and Steam? It’s so annoying, like you have no choice but to use Epic… which I would literally do ANYTHING not to use.

I dumped 8k hours into it once it came west within a year and a half but have since stopped. The NGS changeover was so poorly handled that it really hurt my enjoyment of the game significantly.

One thing I have struggled with lately is finding good games to play. I bounce around from game to game trying to enjoy it but it just doesn’t scratch the itch like it used to. I think I have 5k hours in and the development style finally got to me in a bad way. I can go into detail if needed, but I don’t feel I need to to anyone with enough time in the game.

I bought them ages ago and let me tell you, crazy taxi without the offspring is just not the same. Borrowing the original versions for free from the internet is the only way to go.

I also dabbled in the monster hunter wilds beta. It was what I expected and I’ll be happy to play the full version when it’s released. I think I bonked every monster available, both large and small. I tried out the weapons I’m likely to use.

Gunlance felt ok, light bow gun was interesting but more complicated than I expected. Bow was mostly the same but with some friendly additions. Switch axe ended up being my favorite of the beta. That thing just hits so quickly and wounds to easily that I don’t know if they oops’d the damage on it, or if I was just getting lucky. There were times when I’d break and make wounds in such a way that the monster would be basically stunned for a decently long period of time. If I had been partied up it would have been much too efficient. The other thing about it is the mobility of certain slashes. It took a bit getting used to, but it covers a lot of ground for a heavy blade.

After all that, I discovered the capture net would give both the insects and their essences, so I ran around hunting for endemic life and found a lot of little critters I otherwise would have missed. There’s a hornet that was endemic but could also poison you!

And I spent some time fishing. They really changed it up in this one. You need to reel in the line slowly to actually entice the fish to bite. I wasn’t completely comfortable with it at the end of the beta, but it also feels like they’re going to work on it a bit more.

As for other stuff I played. I continue my usual dedication to a few missions a week in helldivers 2. It’s a very fun game made by some very dedicated folks, and I’m down to blast some things every now and then. I finally got my nerve up to continue playing satisfactory. I usually stop right around coal power because it’s at that point that you can really automate the world… It’s just the amount of math and just waiting on materials to build so you can finally get exponential with your growth. I’m still very much in that stage currently. I need to upscale everything but I’m waiting for materials and to make sure my power situation is handled before I go nuts.

At least 3 Mario, Zelda, and Kirby games each. Maybe 1 or 2 metroids, splatoons, and megamans. At most one first party kart, party, and smash.

I just roughly answered what the switch 2 would likely have during its life based on systems past.

And I definitely forgot about Pokémon.

The switch definitely had more than 1 Mario game though. The makers, a 3D world, the rabbid thing.

It was the sheer quantity of dlc stuff along with the second one having potential performance issues that kept me way and away from it for now. I’ll check back in at a 50-90% off sale.

Admittedly, it’s probably been off it for awhile. I just haven’t really been paying attention to top 10s in a long while.

I fell off from the game for a number of reasons back when deimos was released. I went back to it to catch up on quests and a lot of original gripes of why I left in the first place were still firmly in place.

Mostly random indie titles, such as nova drift, rollscape, and peglin.

Nova drift and peglin both recently came out of early access, both are rogue lite games that offer unique scenarios each time you play, one is a top down shmup with loads of customizations and interesting builds to try out, the other being a bit of a deck builder with interesting setups to keep the ball bouncing.

Rollscape is a relaxing random number generator with some decision making guesses along to the way to attempt to get further. It’s way too random to be truly skill based, but knowing more of the game does diminish a bit of the random.

On mobile it has been egg, inc. and idle cave miner.

Egg, inc. used to be a very player friendly idle incremental game that offered years of play time in a very relaxed setting. It didn’t require spending money on it unless you really wanted to speed things up… Until a bit ago when they took away one mission a week, which was the catch up mission players kind of need to progress and locked it behind a subscription service. I’m still playing because as much as I don’t appreciate that change, I’ve been playing long enough that I don’t need the catch up mission. I still don’t suggest it for new players though.

Idle Cave Miner is a basic incremental idle game, you set your little dudes to mine a cave and see how deep they can get. It does have a bunch of micro transactions, including premium characters that probably mine harder than the rest. I don’t really care about that though. Spending money really isn’t needed on this one, but since it’s a single dev and I’d rather not deal with ads, I’m happy to toss a few bucks to remove those and help out.

Otherwise, I’ve been enjoying helldivers 2 every couple days to keep the medals rolling in, and the samples collected. The latest patch has been quite game changing. It’s nice to have more options to handle the opponents, but I finally had to change armors as my paper thin light armor wasn’t doing the job it had been from previous versions of the game

And it’s the perfect fit for a VR game as well. The top down towering from the heavens over your domain would make the island feel like a table top game… And you could give your pet proper scritches.

It’s a good time period for action rpgs. This and monster hunter wilds are looking like a ton of fun.

Its beyond difficult to compare to a team that had an entire conversation tree line with a stop sign.

Hopped on path of exile with a friend. We’re slowing going through the acts and likely won’t get to mapping by the time the new league drops. It’s fine though.

Been messing around with Sky: Child of Light, that one mmo that is very reminiscent of journey made by the same people and got extremely frustrated. I ‘finished’ the game after getting stun locked, and proceeded to find some trials which required precise control of your character… Which is not a thing. Pressing jump doesn’t always work. The physics aren’t great, and the leeway for timings is much harsher than it needs to be. All in all, that was not the best experience. I ended up on the Farmville quest. First objective I could do alone, second one required another person. Third one needs 3 people…

It’s also the 8th anniversary of Egg Inc. and they have their annual event running. I managed to triple my earnings bonus in one day… Which is fairly significant.

I do not know what the industry wide obsession is with connected D-pads, but my chunky thumbs do not appreciate it.

And with that in mind, the Playstation style of controllers are the closest thing to my ideal controller currently on the market.

Also, I prefer thumbstick under D-pad just in case I need to hit one of those buttons regularly I have a few options.

Yeah, I just wish they’d split the directionals.

The directional pad is four separate buttons. Up down left right. I want them to be like the c buttons on the Nintendo 64 controller. Separate.

What ends up happening with me is that I’ll press down but not squarely down. There is a good chance I’ll press partially to the left or right while using smaller d pads. This causes extra inputs I didn’t intend to do happen. The ds made playing tetris much harder on me than it should have for me.

Edited to clarify. And you can roll separated buttons just as easily… I know because I’d do it a lot on the psp with dj max.

Terraria. An old friend popped up to ask me if I’d like to play and it’s been many updates ago and at least a decade since I last played. We are playing both calamity and Fargo souls mods mashed together and having a hell of a time with the extreme difficulty as we work through the boss fights.

Not to mention our life schedules work out to 2 hours a day.

I finally started doing story missions in dragons dogma 2. I’m level 60 and just started quests in the first main city.
