slimerancher, do games w Day 413 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

How will you compare it with MK: World?

MyNameIsAtticus,
@MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world avatar

World I think definitely has more to offer for die hard Mario Kart fans. As a Family or group game though I’d say 8 is the better title.

8 you just pick it up, pick a character, pick a car, and pick a cup (or track if you’re doing VS), without having to worry about which tracks connect to which and all the new mechanics introduced in world

slimerancher,
@slimerancher@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I feel more at home with 8 too.

Might catch flak for this, but Starfield.
I just wanted something mindless where I could mix FPS with base building and RPG elements. I know there’s Fallout 4, but I want my bases looking nice. Starfield isn’t exactly the best for looks either, but it’s the best I have in my library for these aforementioned things. I’m open to suggestions, but until then I’m just going to randomly kill things on Starfield.

Vodulas,

If you don’t mind third person view, Dune Awakening has good base building. It is more survival than FPS, but I quite like it.

arxaseus,

I’ll check out some gameplay footage of it later today. Thanks for the suggestion.
Cheers!

But did you get the free Anaconda from Hutton Orbital?

Stamets,
@Stamets@lemmy.world avatar

You got the Anaconda? Must have been before they switched to the Federal Corvette

All I got was the coffee mug.

I flew all the way out there and forgot to check the landing pad size. It was such a bust.

Ouch, lol.

Me killing time with Game Dev Tycoon at work.

It’s such a simple spreadsheet simulator. You can’t even see what your games look like but I haven’t been able to put it down for the last few days. I already played, beat, and got bored of it years ago. But it makes the last hour at my job feel like 15 minutes, so I went back to it.

ModernRisk, do gaming w The name is Up. Fuck Up.

I rather the 0/21/0 Yasuo (of course with /mute all and spamming the Mastery).

One of the last games I siege I played. Team mate something like ‘of course its hard when its a 4v5’. I checked, and yeah. 0 kills. 0 assists even. A death in every round.

Single player games are the way to go for me now

n3m37h,

Try Helldivers, best of both worlds

ohshit604, do games w I'm playing Gears of War Reloaded, and I have a question. Will there be some point when the Chainsaw I've had for hours actually gets explained to me?
@ohshit604@sh.itjust.works avatar

I’m not too heavy into gears of war lore but I would assume the Retro Lancer, which has a bayonet in lieu of a chainsaw and was introduced in Gears of War 3, was the precursor to the modern lancer.

RampantParanoia2365,

thank you. FINALLY. These guys have like no academic curiosity.

frongt, do gaming w Honestly a game set in the japanese ministry of finance during the late 80s and 90s sounds interesting to me

Maybe a Sim City scenario?

There’s also Capitalism (1995) or its sequels that you might be able to find. I’ve never played it, but they reused the engine for Seven Kingdoms which was (and still is!) an excellent RTS.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism_(video_game)

It’s not exactly “set in the Japanese finance ministry”, but it’s contemporaneous with your time period, and the developer is from Hong Kong, so maybe it’ll scratch your itch.

Paradachshund, do gaming w Elite Dangerous

I’ve been playing Elden Ring for the first time (also my first fromsoft game). Yeah…

Konraddo, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

You could get GamePass and play Expedition 33 at a cheaper price.

Also, three examples you quoted are both first person based, while BG3 is not.

BurntWits,
@BurntWits@sh.itjust.works avatar

Elden Ring is third person and Skyrim allows for both. I’m not picky on it though, I like both.

That’s a good point about GamePass though. I also learned that BG3 had a two hour demo on PS5 which I also own. So I might look into that too.

Kenshi

nev, do gaming w Weekly “What are you playing” Thread || Week of August 31st

For me it is RUNESCAPE 😅 (The newer one, not the OSRS) We started with friends a couple of weeks ago and been kinda addicted ever since 🙈 But it’s great fun, the quests are nice and it feels like the core mechanics of the game are really polished.

Vodulas,

The new survival crafting one (Dragonwilds I think) or the MMO?

nev,

The MMO, RS3 :3

FFXIV

I’m a huge FF fan, and 14 has a lot of praise so I had a go. I enjoyed FFXI somewhat so I thought maybe 14 would be enjoyable, but no matter how long I stuck around I just couldn’t figure out if it was fun. I spent a lot of time making number go up, but when I stepped away from the computer I felt like I hadn’t achieved anything.

I played through the base game. The first expansion. Began the second expansion. I reflected on my experience and I couldn’t even tell you what the game was about. It’s just walk here, click an NPC, walk there click an NPC, fight battle, repeat. And the battles are so boring; the expectation is that you learn the ideal rotation of attacks and abilities and you just apply that to 99% of battles and make sure to do them efficiently - if you can’t do that you are labelled a noob.

Maybe the difference between 11 and 14 was that I did 11 with a friend, so it felt like I was spending time with him, whereas I did 14 by myself.

Katana314,

Much as I love XIV’s story, I really needed to break up story progression with other content, just for variety. I leveled up all crafters, did many daily raids, etc.

Cethin, do games w Baldur's Gate 3 or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33?

They’re very different, so you need to figure it out for yourself. Both are great, but we don’t know your tastes. I would recommend BG3 though, for what is worth.

However, if you’re strapped for cash, I would recommend playing indie games. They’re often more interesting than these larger budget games (though these two are exceptions to large budget games being shit), and they’re usually like $20 max. Most people can get more out of Factorio or Dwarf Fortress, for example, than they can out of these games, at a much lower price.

nfreak,
@nfreak@lemmy.ml avatar

And tbh since OP said they’re generally more into Soulslikes and such, Silksong comes out in 2 days for $20

BurntWits,
@BurntWits@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yeah I read about that after posting. I’ll probably pick that up honestly, but these two games are both super tempting too.
