sukhmel,

Probably because all the drama had withered with time. I’m not sure now, but it feels like there was some drama at the time, too

sukhmel,

In my opinion, not all cinematic games are trying to be movies, some do it right and preserve the essence of what game is, about others we probably not hear too much except for how bad they turn out to be

sukhmel,

At the same time movies based on a recognized intellectual property tend to omit crucial pieces of character and world building, because come on, the audience is supposed to know that.

And this is how they often produce garbage that is impossible to understand if you are not in the know, and impossible to watch if you are ¯_(ツ)_/¯

sukhmel,

They should’ve hired Uwe Boll as a director, at least they would’ve had an excuse then

sukhmel,

This game is just soooo good (and almost as frustrating)

sukhmel,

Although I agree that BG3 was not exactly well polished, it was far from being “blatantly unfinished”. I’d even say it was far more finished than what can be considered finished by contemporary standards

sukhmel,

sukhmel,

What any corporation hears:

[some noise] for corporate profit

sukhmel,

I think, it’s the opposite:

another review of the same game, it is positive and the text is just "Lol rekt"

Regarding the griftmaybe the developer just made this for fun and published for others to enjoy? It doesn’t seem like this needs any new features or much maintenance, that would also explain the response on discord: the dev doesn’t care if people like the game or not, it is what it is

sukhmel,

On a tangential note, I doubt that the license you include will have any influence on people doing scraping for commercial AI :(

Also, I am not sure what is the default licence the content on forums/lemmy is posted under and if that can be changed by including an overriding licence 🤔

sukhmel,

As far as I know, it’s usually not so in gaming and in software in general. But since software is easier to abandon when you feel like it (I know buildings, too, sometimes stand incomplete for decades) so it is easier to suddenly close the project and say goodbye to everyone working on that project.

sukhmel,

Only a loading screen, judging by the small size

sukhmel,

Regarding the alpha/beta point, increase in internet availability and rolling updates probably made all the work in that shift. In the old days if you published a raw product it would take a hell of an effort to amend it. Now it’s just a matter of a user not plugging the internet off for some time ¯_(ツ)_/¯

sukhmel,

I’ve played a different one and resisted spending cash. One day I felt depression getting worse over my addiction to that game and had given all of my accounts to other players and uninstalled everything. It felt kinda bad for a week or two but then got better. I’d say you still can win that

sukhmel,

Seems like a golden era of running everything in ring 0, although that wasn’t called like this then, afaik

sukhmel,

I’m now thinking that maybe male players should randomly use voice modulators to make it harder to assume someone’s gender

But yeah, situation and community is a bit fucked up, and part of why I tend to only interact with my friends on-line

sukhmel,

That is if you will have enough to keep going until you win. Having to pay a hundred grands for years may be a price to just prove you’re innocent, after that you’ll be refunded (sometime)

sukhmel,

Our memories aren’t wiped when we switch jobs

Now that’s the real problem here /s

Also, this already been a trope in a movie

sukhmel,

For wiping memory of ex-workers? Or for illegal non competitive contract items? You lost me somewhat

Ah, nevermind, I got your point. Yes it happens and it doesn’t always happen fairly

Starfield design lead says players are "disconnected" from how games are actually made: "Don't fool yourself into thinking you know why it is the way it is" (www.gamesradar.com) angielski

apparently this is in response to a few threads on Reddit flaming Starfield—in general, it’s been rather interesting to see Bethesda take what i can only describe as a “try to debate Starfield to popularity” approach with the game’s skeptics in the past month or two. not entirely sure it’s a winning strategy,...

sukhmel,

What game did Blizzard try this with? I’m just too ignorant about their games beyond Warcraft and Diablo, or was it that WoW add-on that killed WoW popularity back in the days?

sukhmel,

No-o-o, you must offer a solution to be eligible for criticism111

!Man, this is such a lame argument 😅 can’t believe people use it!<

sukhmel,

So, they were right about knowing better, after all 😉

I actually think that this is a marketing fallacy some (?) big corporations use to create a self fulfilling prophecy of what people want. Wery rarely is it really a novel thing that just requires users to understand how good it is, very often it’s just gaslighting

sukhmel,

No-o-o, because then it may make money for others, think about all the lost profits. Better shut them completely /s

sukhmel,

I’m kinda with you on that, without knowing that Hasbro doesn’t own Larian this can be misread.

But I guess that the overly angry tone made people quite upset about your comment

sukhmel,

Or maybe people could steer the culture in one way or another by encouraging/discouraging specific behaviour. Nah, sounds like an unrealistic thing

On a serious note, self-regulation should be simpler in a smaller community, so it might work better here than on Reddit

sukhmel,

Maybe they just exhausted their reading quota for today, it’s a pretty long headline, after all

sukhmel,

They may be gone but left a lot in their wake.

On a serious note, indies also sell at a discount sometimes and I already have too many games in the backlog to finish them ever, I think 😰

sukhmel,

I’m mostly with you but “didn’t want to release prematurely” is not a promise, as you can never know when one sees code as matured.

sukhmel,

I’ve nothing to say more on topic. Off topic, people may be quite different and even if objectively there should be nothing bad in releasing pre-production, they may find it sensitive + there might be someone to actively offend for that. I only encountered the former, luckily

sukhmel,

Will a change in position be considered a progress though? How far?

There are a lot of questions to answer in such a case, so I’d argue that a timer is good enough
