Petri Country.

Is there any media link that isn’t to X? Many don’t like giving clicks to the Nazi social media stronghold.

I’d love to see your game!

EDIT: Your steam link was great.

I recommend simplifying it: Architect

This also leaves you open for sequels/expansions that may have a different theme than “country.”

Thank you so much!!!

You’re right, I should have made some google poll or something, darn it. (EDIT: added non-twitter link, removed old one)

There are games such as Prison Architect (that are my inspiration in various ways), but I wouldn’t bee as bold as to name mine just Architect. 😅

Another idea was Nation Builder, but that also seems too generic to me.

You’re the first person to explicitly say to like my Steam page (even though I am fully aware the graphics are kind of atrocious), so thanks again. I’ll keep developing this project, and see where it goes.

Architect: From The Ground Up

SmokedBillionaire,

I like this and had the same thought. My other thought was calling it something like “Breaking Ground”

Nationeering?

Nationeer?

Honestly, +1 for Nation Builder. Generic isn’t necessarily a problem. It gives space for the gameplay itself to define the game’s identity, rather than its title.

purple_mimosa,
@purple_mimosa@lemmy.world avatar

It turns out, Nation Builder is already taken as a board game name.

BigMikeInAustin,

Nation Builder was my thought.

brsrklf,

A bit of warning : I’ve seen indie developers mention that having a single common word for their game title was a mistake. It makes it hard to search for. A combination of words or a simple phrase is better in that regard.

Searching only for “Architect game” right now already yields a bunch of things, like a Korean MMO, actual house architect simulators, and you know, the very popular Prison Architect.

Jumbie,

Fair enough.

DaMummy,

The song Track 17 by Unknown Artist was the best song on Napster!

I don’t know what he’ll do to make Minecraft better, he doesn’t have Zachtronics to steal ideas from this time around; and nobody likes him.

Please for the love of god. Someone add proper split screen and controller support for any Minecraft clone. The mods available aren’t good enough for kids.

We have that. Its the mods on top of Minecraft. Nothing made will ever come close to those.

Pretty sure Terraria already exists.

Notch is a fascist.

I mean, to this day I haven’t played a Minecraft clone that left me satisfied so I doubt Mr. Bored Depressed Billionaire over there will manage to capture lighting in a bottle twice…

(And I doubt he’s using his free time to learn a new programming language either so it’s gonna be Java again god help us all)

DerArzt,

Real talk what’s wrong with Java? It’s runtime is rock solid at this point and it’s a very mature lang with a great ecosystem.

LiveLM,

To be fair I’m being a dickhead.
I’m sure Minecraft’s slowness has more to do with how it was built/tech debt and such than Java itself, as the mods that massively boost performance show.

DerArzt,

Fair.

You know why villagers cause so much lag if there’s too many and they’re allowed to roam free? Well, rather than optimise their pathfinding logic they just… recalculate their paths every goddamn frame. They also take shortcuts in calculating their paths to reduce this overhead, so their movement is derpy and frequently kills them.

You could make the path then record all the blocks they will interact with, and only recalculate if one of those blocks changes. Boom, millions of operations eliminated, and you’ve got some spare time to make sure the paths will actually work. You could also stagger pathfinding so if a bunch of villagers need a path all at once - like you just blocked a path to where they were all going - you could spread out that load, and prevent lag spikes.

But they don’t do that, so people end up sticking them in tiny boxes on top of carpets so they stop trying to pathfind. Just absurd stuff.

2ncs,

I believe he has been using JS now so all is good 🙏

At this point, he should just rehire Jen’s to do it again.

Notch has a track record of announcing things he wouldnt add

I am still waiting for fortress mode to be added to Minecraft, for the planned dlc and for the game to be licensed under an open source license

Earflap,

Api when

RandomVideos,

Hasnt that been added in bedrock edition?

Earflap,

No idea but it was promised for Java

Pamasich,

Did they ever actually specify what they meant with that promise?

I mean, datapacks ARE a modding API. Not the kind we would have liked to see, but if a modding api is all they promised, then they did deliver on that.
It's called data-driven modding, and not exactly a rare approach among official modding APIs.

altima_neo,
@altima_neo@lemmy.zip avatar

Don’t forget the story mode he said they’re be adding.

TheEighthDoctor,

Yes, the DLC we were promised for life for buying it during alpha.
