I should probably play that game one of these days.

dalekcaan,

You definitely should, it’s a fantastic game. I’ve just been replaying it myself.

kebabslob,

For better or for worse, its one of the best games ever made and Bethesda might never live up to it again

Moneo,

Bethesda didn’t make New Vegas.

kebabslob,

Doesn’t mean they’ll live up to it tho, reply guy

Jakeroxs,

Debatable, Bethesda published and funded it, though of course Obsidian actually developed it

Kecessa,

If you haven’t played FO3 then play with Tale of Two Wastelands starting with FO3

Out of all the racing games on the Nintendo 64, that was one of them.

fsxylo, do gaming w I truly don't know how to explain this to anyone who wasn't around then without them thinking we were out of our minds.

Because we were stuck on “how did they put a whole world in the TV?!” And hadn’t gotten to “but why they triangle?”

3d was huge, it didn’t matter that it was ugly.

mavu, do gaming w Then vs Now

I hate this conflation of “Developer” with every other role in modern game development.

If you think the new Porsche looks shit, do you blame the Mecanical engineer who designed the brake mechanism?

If your new manga body pillow gives you a rash, do you blame the graphic designer of the manga?

There is not a single thing listed in the meme above that is actually the fault of the actual developers working on the game. Don’t even need to talk about the first picture.

game size is studio management related. They want to stuff as much (repetitive, boring) content into the game as possible. Plus a multiplayer mode no one asked for.

Optimizations don’t happen because the CEO decides to take the sales money of the game this quarter, and not next, and ships an unfinished product.

Always online is ALWAYS a management decision.

It’s a shit joke, it’s wrong because it blames the wrong people, and its also just dumb.

The last game I got to the end of or the last game I bought?

Last game I beat was probably either Slime Rancher or Cyberpunk 2077, can’t recall which was most recent.

Last game I bought was Slime Rancher 2.

This one, I don’t know about this franchise, but enjoy it to the fullest.

It’s a nice game to relax with, would recommend.

Fosheze, do gaming w There's simply no going back

People always go on and on about framerate but I’d take 4k at 60fps over 1080p at 144fps any day. I never really noticed a differance over 60fps. But the resolution makes a massive difference.

TheSambassador,

We are opposite people (and that’s fine).

Cowbee,

1440p, stable 144. The dream

RaoulDook,

They both make a difference. 1080p is console TV gaming minimum resolution. A good PC can do much better. I like my ultra-widescreen 144Hz monitor more than a plain boring 16x9 high-res monitor.

But even games at 3440x1440 @ 144Hz don’t look as good as full-on VR at 120Hz and up. VR gaming for much time will make gaming on a monitor feel obsolete.

jaycifer,

For me it depends on the game. A menu game from Paradox like Crusader Kings? 4k 60fps. A competitive shooter? Ideally the max resolution (for greater pinpoint accuracy) and 144fps, but between the two I’d want maximum fps for the reaction speed and responsiveness. A pretty game like Ori and the Will of the Wisps? Crank the graphics up and I’m happy with 60fps.

xkforce, do gaming w There's simply no going back

Wait until you experience 500

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website avatar

Every time I get a taste for something better, things get more expensive… I’m going to avoid trying anything higher than 144 for a while.

pivot_root,

It’s for the best that you do that.

Sincerely, someone who “had” to buy an RTX 4080 after buying a new 200 Hz monitor.

Alteon,

Oh. Fuck…you got the Odyssey G9 as well?

In order for me to even taste the sweet potential of that monitor, I’m having to build a whole new computer. I’m dreading it.

pivot_root,

Hide the Pain Harold

The best advice I can give you is to turn off the FPS counter. If the game feels like it’s stuttering, turn down the quality. If it feels fine during gameplay, don’t fuck with it, and under no circumstances should you enable an FPS counter or frame timing graph.

If you’re anything like me and you do enable the FPS counter or frame timing graphs, you’ll spend more time optimizing performance than actually enjoying the game…

jacktherippah,

LOL I like how they mention one spec of the monitor and you instantly know which one they bought.

Cornpop,

I just built a new PC with a Ryzen 7800X3D CPU and a Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU, loving it so far. 400fps with Counter-Strike 2 at max settings 1080p

pivot_root,

Wow, you went all out on that. What chipset? X670, X670E, B650, or B650E?

Cornpop, (edited )

B650, wasn’t planing on OC and figured better to put the money to the CPU and GPU

pivot_root,

Great pick. The X670 and E variants are insanely overpriced for what they provide. People don’t need PCIE 5 when there aren’t even any non-SSD components that use it.

xintrik,

I made an awful mistake of getting a 1440p OLED instead of the 540 and now a TN panel is going to be very difficult to get used to.

saltnotsugar, do gaming w Same theme song but made with revving chainsaws

I choose to believe there is a lumberjack doing epic kill moves on logs somewhere in the woodland realm.

pleb_maximus,

Going by the game used in the screencap as the bottom pic, I doubt that there will be kill moves.

otter,

So, sample the shit outta Coldcut - Timber for the theme song, then?

mlg, do gaming w I just love collecting them all!
@mlg@lemmy.world avatar

So called free market socialists when steam offers almost all the games in one launcher (monopoly)

shneancy,

at least they’re using the money they get to make hardware that would not get greenlit otherwise due to too high market risks

and they didn’t suddenly make the platform subscription only & put all the new features in the cloud to make it harder to pirate (looking at you Adobe you pos)

asexualchangeling,

Also unlike console makers they don’t try to limit you to only running software they approve on their hardware

Why would you take a car off a diamond store?

SocialMediaRefugee, do gaming w It was a lively, bustling major city... of about 12 people and 1 chicken.

I hated quests that required killing an NPC because the game felt empty enough already. I would actually use cheats to resurrect NPCs afterwards just to have more bodies moving around.

I will give them credit for giving the NPCs homes and schedules. I love it when games have the NPCs actually live their lives like work, sleep, go to taverns, etc. You lose immersion in a game when the NPCs are perpetually glued to one spot.

The_Picard_Maneuver,
@The_Picard_Maneuver@startrek.website avatar

Or randomly generated so that they feel less like they belong.

SocialMediaRefugee,

That would be cool too. Random NPCs that you only see occasionally. Skyrim did have traveling merchants which was a nice touch. I’d like to see more of that. You could also have people who lived in the country show up on market days in town.
